Stay (don't leave me)

Summary:

“If I fall asleep...you’re not going to leave me?”

Vanitas stared at the very obviously tired vampire sitting across from him, staring deep into his soul with those wide shimmering eyes.

Reluctantly, he replied in the affirmative after tearing himself away from looking at the somehow so innocent face.

“...I’ll wake you when we’re there.”

The little smile Noé gave him was sickening. Physically causing a flutter in his chest, along with the mental disgust. Now, he was a vampire doctor, but heart palpitations were never a good thing, right?

Notes:

Hello everyone! This is just a bit more fluffiness about the ending of ep12. Ugh, they're so adorable and dumb.

Chapter 1: Vanitas

Chapter Text

“If I fall asleep...you’re not going to leave me?”

Vanitas stared at the very obviously tired vampire sitting across from him, staring deep into his soul with those wide shimmering eyes.

Reluctantly, he replied in the affirmative after tearing himself away from looking at the somehow so innocent face.

“...I’ll wake you when we’re there.”

The little smile Noé gave him was sickening. Physically causing a flutter in his chest, along with the mental disgust. Now, he was a vampire doctor, but heart palpitations were never a good thing, right?

The vampire was like a dumb dog, needing reassurance that his owner wasn’t going to abandon him.

The human steadfastly ignored the part of him whispering fiercely, he may be dumb but he’s my dumb vampire .

Vanitas tried to settle into his seat, they had a couple of hours after all. Shifting and grumbling, there was something that kept him from getting comfortable.

That very same  something happened to be peering at him from behind white bangs again.

“Damn it, Noé.”

The tired vampire jerked guiltily, averting his eyes from the human.

“Well. Spit it out.”

He obviously didn’t care for the feelings of the vampire, but his constant staring was, well it was annoying. Noé was obviously fighting sleep for some strange reason, and using his precious time to bother Vanitas. It was surprising, the vampire usually loved his sleep.

“Sorry, Vanitas-” the Archiviste interrupted himself by yawning. Yawning, like he’s in need of sleep, before flushing shyly. Come on, he has no right to look so adora-NO.

“Sorry, I just can’t help but think…”

The dark-haired man fumed silently. Stupid vampire. Yawning and blushing like that. Why didn’t he just sleep? He’d apparently been up all night waiting for hi-

Damn.

The doctor felt his lips quirk wryly. Marvelling.

“Aw, puppy has separation anxiety.”

“Pardon?! Vanitas!”

Oops.

Noé was very flushed now, half raised out of his seat looking shocked. Ah, yes, vampiric enhanced senses. Even an unconscious mumble of thoughts could be easily heard.

Looking at the vampire again, Vanitas sighed heavily.

Taking advantage of Noé’s shocked positioning, Vanitas stood up and pushed Noé into the aisle seat so he could sit beside him. Irritatingly, the vampire went easily, letting himself be manhandled by the comparatively puny human.

Ignoring the vampire’s gaping, Vanitas not-so roughly pulled Noé down onto his own shoulder. However, the Archiviste was still limp, and the force brought Noé down so he was laying over Vanitas’ lap, looking up at the human.

The two of them froze for a moment, caught staring directly into the other’s eyes.

Noé’s brilliant purple eyes and slightly parted mouth were framed by splayed locks of hair.

When Noé visibly relaxed into his new position, Vanitas simply huffed, bringing down his arms that had been hovering awkwardly. One hand rested on the vampire’s hip while the other gently curled into white strands.

“Go to sleep, Noé.”

The human hoped Noé was too confused to note the unfortunate softness in his voice.

Resolutely looking out the window, Vanitas still couldn’t miss seeing the damn sparkles in Noé’s eyes when he chirped out an affirmative, realization finally sinking it.

“Yes, Vanitas!”

The vampire was warm against his body. Despite himself, Vanitas found himself being lulled into a sleepy daze as they sat pressed tightly together, the train gently rocking them to sleep.

Still, he was awake enough to hear a quietly whispered thank you.
