Work Text:
In general, Edelgard does not consider herself a vain woman, but her hair has always been an exception. Maintaining its shine and quality has always been a priority, and she always prided herself on its length.
She can only recall two times when she's worn it short.
When her childhood ended and she emerged from the dungeons, her hair was stark white, the last remnants of brown having been chopped off unevenly, without care. The first time she saw herself in the mirror, she'd burst into tears.
Regrowing it was a long, painful process.
Now, though... When she had her second Crest removed, she hadn't expected her original haircolor to return. It was her second time tearing up upon seeing her reflection, when she noticed her brown roots coming in once again.
Once it had grown in enough, she cut it again.
The funny thing is, this time she finds that she actually likes it. Likes looking in the mirror and no longer seeing the remnants of the person they'd forced her to be. Funny, how freeing a haircut could be.
