Work Text:

“You’re sick? What do you mean you’re sick you’re an immortal witch!” Yeosang let out in a strained cry. Seonghwa rolled his eyes and sighed before settling into a ragged coughing fit.

“I was poisoned by cow nettle on accident. My own doing, actually. Although falling into a bush is more of the settle of fate than my own intent. Regardless, I will have to sweat this one out Sangie.” The witch rasped out once his breathing was normal.

Yeosang bit his bottom lip as he looked at the ravenette lying almost pathetically in his bed. The vampire cast a glance outside at the setting sun before realization dawned on him.

“Oh fuck. Oh, fuck no! You can’t be sick, tomorrow is Fae Day! You can't miss your meeting with Hongjoong, he’s the reason we can do what we do,'' at the blond's words, Seonghwa’s eyes that were drooping closed flew open.

“My gods you’re right. But it’s just a check-in meeting you know, he’s just going to give you a report on possible cases and ask about the next date to meet up to discuss potential candidates.” Seonghwa mumbled, licking his dry lips and coughing lightly at the end.

The vampire sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “So I have to go meet with a High Fae Officer, get a report from him, and set up a future meet up? Did you forget how easily offended HIgh Fae are? Did you forget I’m known to mess things up? I’m going to come back with a curse on me!” Yeosang fretted, voice raising each sentence as he thought of the day dawning before them.

“If you know that, you should know that they don’t take last-minute cancellations lightly.” With those words, Yeosang came to the realization that he was royally screwed.

The pendant throbbed like an uneven heartbeat against Yeosangs throat. He had tried to find some semblance of shade, but as he was sitting on a park bench at 1 pm, shade didn’t exist. Nor would he let himself look like a child hiding behind a tree waiting for Hongjoong to appear.

Yeosang had only seen the High Fae a few times, enough to know that he one; was stupid attractive and two; not to be messed with. So here he was, anxiously fidgeting, praying the enchanted pendant didn’t die out mid-meeting because Seonghwa had passed out.

“Yeosang was it?” A soft voice called, snatching his attention away from his shoes. Hongjoong stood at the opposite end of the bench, a soft smile gracing his features. The blond scrambled to stand before bowing deeply.

“Hongjoong! Greetings and apologies on behalf of Seonghwa, he had a run-in with cow nettle and is resting.” the fae nodded, draping himself on the park bench and grabbing a tote bag that Yeosang hadn't noticed until then.

Hongjoong pulled out a relatively thick manilla folder before extending out for Yeosang to grab. “You can sit, you know, I’m not royalty.” Yeosang sputtered at Hongjoongs words, quickly taking his previous spot and thanking any higher power he could think of that he couldn’t blush.

Yes, Hongjoong wasn't royalty necessarily, but all High Fae looked different. They had ancient rune markings in lines down their spines and arms. The closer you were to royalty, the more you had. The High Fae royalty also had markings down the side of their legs, and gifted High Fae had runes lined down their faces above and below their eyes.

Hongjoong wasn’t royalty, but he was a gifted High Fae, and his runes were a stark white against his tanned skin, making him look all the more inhuman. (In a good, attractive way in Yeosangs eyes)

After snorting in amusement, the white-haired male nodded his head for the vampire to open the folder. They sat in silence as Yeosang flipped through and skimmed the supernaturals Hongjoong had selected he and Seonghwa go through.

“Well uh, thank you for the list Hongjoong, when are you open to meet with Seonghwa again?” At Yeosang’s words, Hongjoong cocked his head sideways and mock-pouted.

“I won’t get to see your pretty face again?” Hongjoong spoke, voice laced in a flirty tone. Yeosang also thanked any god that he didn’t have a heartbeat or the need to breathe because he had a feeling this fae would have stolen his breath and stuttered his heart.

“Uh, well, you see, I’m not the best at handling matters that involve important people like yourself. Seonghwa knows how to use his words effectively and with natural grace which I’m afraid I do not have. He should be better in a few days so no need for me to be in his place for-” a finger to his lips silenced his rambling.

The blond locked eyes with Hongjoong, who was wearing a smug grin. “Do you really think that highly of me? Yes, I am a gifted High Fae, but that’s really only for politics. Which is not the relationship Hwa and I have, nor what I expect from you. I’ve known Seonghwa for a couple of centuries now, and I think you should know that he talks about you quite a lot. His little successor with the face of an angel.”

Hongjoong paused to take a breath, Yeosang hung on to every micro-movement the elder did. “What I’m saying is quit being formal with me before I kiss it out of you,” Yeosang startled at Hongjoong’s words, shuffling backward and toppling off the bench's edge.

He hit the ground with a squeak of surprise only to squeak again when Hongjoong’s face appeared over the edge, eyebrows raised in amusement. He let out a huffed laugh, shaking his head. “You’re adorable Yeosang, and I’m not very good at keeping my thoughts to myself.”

“I-I can see that…” The vampire trailed off, pursing his lips and looking off to the side. After taking a moment to collect himself, Yeosang stood and dusted himself off, Hongjoong moving to stand as well.

The fae invaded his space to rest his chin on Yeosang’s chest and look up at him. The blond forgot how small Hongjoong was up close, being in the High Fae’s presence did that to him.

“I’m free in three weeks, any day. Make sure to tag along okay? I’ll miss your cute ramblings.”

How was Yeosang supposed to say no? “O-Okay.”

With a grin, Hongjoong dissolved into glittering smoke, taken away by the wind and ruffling Yeosang’s hair. Taking another few moments to let everything sink in, Yeosang stumbled his way out of the park and into Seonghwa’s car. Shaking his head once he was seated in the vehicle, he started the engine and drove home, white runes settling in his mind.

Notes:

Hello!! I come back from the dead with a side plot again! This takes place before our cute fairy boys join, I’m not the best at hinting and foreshadowing.

I was hoping after finishing this side plot fic I’d feel fulfilled but I’m kinda disappointed in my descriptive parts. But oh well, it’s 1k word vomit that you hopefully enjoyed!
