Conviction

Summary:

Different, more gay ending to Chapter 1, Act 3 of "The Crown of Leaves." Roui and Flynn are gay sahash and kiss and hug.

Notes:

I highly recommend playing through "The Crown of Leaves" before reading this, because it is spoiler-heavy, despite being a different ending. It's only $7 for both Chapter 1 and 2 of the visual novel on steam, you won't regret it.

Work Text:

He wanted to...

He could...

He should…

He was so warm.

He couldn’t bring himself to hurt him.

. . .

Tigre Dera went off without a hitch. The tsourai celebrated kiddo’s birthday, gifts were handed out, chats were had, and with the party beginning to disband, one tsourai after another leaving; it was time to part ways. How troublesome. After his attempt, just how could he face kiddo, or, for story’s sake, Roui? Flynn brandished a knife, contemplating whether or not to hurt the star gazer. He had good intentions. He wanted to prevent any more do-de(s). And still, his shame shook him to the core. Why did he hesitate? Was it his looks? His voice? His ignorant way of speaking?

He should face him. Poor star gazer must feel like he did something wrong. Flynn couldn’t figure out why he had these feelings, was it his insatiable urge to drink? Curses, perhaps he should’ve followed Bo’s advice. Being the drunk little manlet of a sahash he was at the moment, stumbling toward the taller, sober sahash, there was no stopping now.

“Oi, Shantow, I have to discuss something with you,” Flynn said, his intoxication on full display with his slurred speech and cherry cheeks. ‘Just what is he doing,’ Roui wondered. But, being the polite mortal he was, he’d best keep up the act of having been friends with the tsourai.

“What do you need?” The Latorian responded, smiling politely for the manlet of a sahash. Flynn, being so impatient, simply grabbed him by his arm and dragged him away from the remaining crowd, somewhere private. No one could know of this, lest he be tried for murder and executed as a result.

“Did you have to be so rough?! You almost tore my arm off, you brute!” Roui said with such aggression, it scared Flynn. Just a little. “Well, excuse me for not wanting to make a scene, Shantow!”

The smaller male scoffed, annoyed, yet he pardoned kiddo’s behavior. He’s ignorant, after all. He did just experience a do-de, after all. He may as well cut him some slack. Key word: Some. “Now listen, back when we shared an embrace… I must confess, I…” he choked up, unsurprisingly. Flynn only realized until it was too late, he never gave himself a moment to mentally prepare. Thus, his eyes welled up with tears, and he couldn’t hold himself back. He had to. He couldn’t believe how nice it felt to hold Roui again, so tightly, even more so when he felt the other hug him just as tightly.

“Have you lost your mind, Flynn? What are you trying to say?” Surprisingly, Roui is in a state of peace. There were no warnings in his head telling him something was awry. “I… I attempted to stab you, soon after you took that picture. I knew it was wrong, but the fear of letting The Crown of Leaves completely devour your mind… it would hurt me more than to kill you,” Flynn muttered, claws sinking slightly into the suit Roui wore. Please don’t let go, he repeated in his mind over and over in an endless loop.

“I don’t know much about our past, sadly. Everything is a blur, I didn’t realize how much I meant to you. Are you asking for forgiveness? It’s pointless to ask, I couldn’t blame you. I wonder… I wonder if Bo would feel the same thing, be pulled toward the idea of killing me because The Crown of Leaves would be much more deadly…”

This is certainly risky on Roui’s end. He has no idea of Flynn’s more personal feelings, it’d essentially be toying with him if he… no, better to risk it than not try it at all. Cupping the cheek of the smaller sahash, he looked him in the eyes, and although he essentially just met Flynn; he would lightly kiss him on the lips.

“I forgive you, Shantow.”
