Work Text:
She was in a bar having fun with some of her friends when she heard a name she doesn’t usually hear in such a place.
“Yes, really, it’s THE Yoo Jeongyeon.”
“And she’s drunk?”
“Absolutely.”
“What are we waiting for? Let’s make a move on her.”
She followed the two guys who seemed nasty to her after excusing herself from their group.
She tried not to lose them in the maze of people and was actually surprised, it really was Jeongyeon, who’s drunk as hell, sitting on one of the stools in the bar.
“Hey” the taller guy said smoothly
She saw Jeongyeon looked up before her head bobbed down involuntarily.
She saw the evil smiled exchanged between the two people she followed so she intervened before things got worse.
“Excuse me, but do you need anything from my friend?” She bitchily snapped.
The two turned to her, shocked. Well it’s not every day you see two former members of TWICE in a bar.
“Im Nayeon.” The shorter one exclaimed in surprise before smiling at her charmingly.
She was not charmed.
“Look, you may know us but we don’t know you and we are not interested in knowing you, so kindly leave us alone. Or do you want me to call security and let them drag you outta here?”
She stood as proudly and as intimidating as she could at the two, even though they’re way taller than her it was obvious that she’s looking down on them. Though they don’t seem affected they decided that the trouble she would definitely cause if needed was not worth it. The two left.
“Jeong” She said while shaking Jeongyeon’s shoulders.
Jeongyeon opened her eyes and squinted at her. “Nayeon?”
Jeongyeon smiled at her before trying to stand up but she almost fell down because of the dizziness she felt. Thank God Nayeon was there to catch her.
“Nayeon” Jeongyeon said before giving her a poor attempt at a hug.
She shook her head and fixed Jeongyeon’s arm around her so that she could assist the latter out of the bar. It was difficult but they made it through.
She had half the mind to find Jeongyeon’s car and drive since she hasn’t had more than a few drinks and was definitely capable of driving. But she decided against it just because of the fact that Jeongyeon was heavy, she hailed a cab instead.
She took Jeongyeon to her Unit and took care of her all night.
She couldn’t believe this was what her friend had become in the few years that they barely had communication. Her work and all was one of the few things that made it difficult for her to maintain her friendship with Jeongyeon, apart from that Jeongyeon was focused on her romantic relationships.
She never imagined Jeongyeon as someone who would be so careless and deink herself to death at some public place. Yet, here they were and she was sure it was because Jeongyeon heard of her ex’s engagement to another man. It was a huge punch to Jeongyeon that her girlfriend left her for a man.
Yoo Jeongyeon was heartbroken and she can’t do anything but watch.
“I’m here for you Jeong, always have, always will.” She whispered before kissing Jeongyeon’s forehead.
She slept beside Jeongyeon that night hoping tomorrow will not be painful for the latter.
“Good morning, Jeong” she greeted when Jeongyeon finally came out of the bedroom.
She finished putting the plates on the table and led Jeongyeon to sit down. Jeongyeon was holding her head in pain, having a hangover from the drinks that’s he had drunk last night.
“Eat so you could drink meds” She said
Jeongyeon looked at her as if finally realizing that Nayeon was there, and where she was.”
“Nabongs, Thanks” Jeongyeon said
She waved her off. She would lecture her later but for now she needs Jeongyeon to eat so the latter could feel better.
After eating and giving Jeongyeon medicine for her hangover, she gave the latter an earful about getting drunk in a bar and how dangerous it was. Jeongyeon just laughed her way out of the long ass nag with Nayeon just giving up but still reminding Jeongyeon not to do that kind of thing again.
“I’m sorry Nabongs. Yesterday was just…” Jeongyeon trailed
“I know, but Jeong, the world doesn’t end just because she’s getting married to someone else.”
She saw the pain in Jeongyeon’s eyes but she needed to say it even though Jeongyeon already knew it.
The taller woman changed the topic instead.
“So where’s your… you know… How’s being…” Jeongyeon couldn’t finish her sentence when she saw the emotions in Nayeon’s eyes.
Nayeon decided to smile, but Jeongyeon knew that it wasn’t the same smile Nayeon gives when she’s happy.
Nayeon couldn’t explain to Jeongyeon ho awful it is to see what her and Jeongyeon had become and how Jeongyeon seemed to have stopped caring about her.
“I can’t believe you didn’t care enough to know that we broke up even before the marriage.”
“What?! You sent me an invitation last year! I thought it pushed through but I didn’t attend because…” She trailed and instead asked Nayeon “What happened?!”
Nayeon explained what happened, and while she was explaining Jeongyeon was just there listening feeling bad for Nayeon.
Nayeon felt Jeongyeon wiping the tears on her eyes before pulling her for a hug. It was a hug that lingered.
And just like that, she forgave Jeongyeon and the latter was back in her life like nothing happened.
Nayeon hoped she could say that things went better after that.
But it didn’t.
She was there for Jeongyeon.
She took care of Jeongyeon.
But Jeongyeon never even tried to be better.
Every time there was news about Jeongyeon’s ex and her current Fiancé, Jeongyeon would get drunk. Every time Jeongyeon see her ex, she would keep chasing her around, begging, and hoping that there could be still a chance for them.
Being drunk was fine because she could always attend to Jeongyeon’s needs. She could change the latter’s clothes, wash her with cold towel and such. But Jeongyeon, in her anguish, started flirting and making out with random people at the bars she went to. She can’t even say how many times it would have led to more had she not intervened.
Jeongyeon would just apologize when she’s sober and Nayeon would forgive her over and over.
Because she was that helpless when it came to Jeongyeon. Because all her feelings that she had tried to suppress and forget to the point where she dated someone else came crashing down on her.
Being around Jeongyeon made her realize that some feelings just don’t go away.
Yes, she was and is again in love with Jeongyeon, but lo and behold, Jeongyeon was still dense and blind to see her feelings.
Until one day, her heart finally had enough.
She was cooking dinner at Jeongyeon’s apartment then because Jeongyeon promised her they would have dinner together. She was tired from the shoot but she still cooked from Jeongyeon.
But the food went cold and Jeongyeon still wasn’t there. When the door opened, Jeongyeon was frantically making out with someone. She looked drunk again.
It was a painful sight and it made her angry so she stood up and grabbed the woman, and pushed her away. She kept of pushing her even though the woman was making a fuss until she was out the apartment.
When she looked at Jeongyeon, the latter was there looking dumbfounded before turning mad.
“What the hell, Nayeon?!” Jeongyeon shouted
“You’re asking me that?! What’s wrong with you?!” She poked Jeongyeon on the chest with her index finger.
“Nothing’s wrong with me! I was just having fun!”
“You’re doing something stupid!”
Then, Jeongyeon shouted at the top of her lungs
“So what?! You’re not my mother and you’re certainly not my girlfriend!”
That made her stop.
Jeongyeon should’ve slapped her instead because that would have been less painful. She can endure Physical pain, she was used to it. But what is this type of torture from Jeongyeon?
She swallowed and pursed her lips. She held her head up high and stopped her tears from coming.
“You’re right. I‘m sorry”
She turned around and left.
It’ll be the last time
She promised herself. It’s the last time she would cry because of Jeongyeon, it’ll be the last time she would do something stupid like this. This would be the last time she would let herself love Jeongyeon.
“Morning…” She said turning to her right.
No one was there. It was empty once again. She was so used to having Nayeon around these past few months that finding Nayeon beside her in the morning was like a natural thing.
But Nayeon wasn’t there.
She remembered what she had done last night and she hot herself.
Damn it! What have I done!?
She screamed internally.
She shouted at Nayeon and drove her away even though Nayeon has done nothing but take care of her.
She tried calling Nayeon but the latter never answered her calls so she prepared to go to the set where she knew Nayeon would surely be. But even there, Nayeon refused to see or talk to her.
She tried everything to get in touch with Nayeon, but the latter avoided her and ignored her. She even let Nayeon cool off before she tried again. She saw her once but Nayeon left her without a word. She saw the pain in Nayeon’s eyes and she hated herself for being the cause of that.
In a desperate move, she waited outside Nayeon’s Unit. She wasn’t sure if Nayeon’s shoot was finished because no one would give her any information, not even their friends, so she waited there for hours.
She heard Nayeon’s voice but she was with someone so she hid herself in the corner of the hallway first.
When she peeked, she felt her blood boil.
What the hell is she doing with that person?!
Her eyes widened when she saw the guy leaning down to kiss Nayeon and she saw that the latter stood frozen on her spot. She closed the distance between her and them in just a few steps and she pushed the guy.
“What the fuck?!” The guy shouted
“Stay away from her you cheating bastard!” she screamed
That brought Nayeon out of her stupor but the latter didn’t take Jeongyeon’s side.
“Jeongyeon! What do you think you’re doing?”
She frowned and was about to talk some sense into Nayeon but the latter faced the guy first.
“Hey, sorry about this. I think it’s best for you to go ahead. I’ll talk to you some other time.”
The guy glared at Jeongyeon, but when he kissed Nayeon on the cheek, she wanted to punch that smirk off his face
She never took her eyes off the guy as he left. If she could burn him alive by just glaring at him, he would’ve turned into burnt flesh in a matter of seconds. When he was gone, she turned to Nayeon
“Nabongs, What was that?!” She hissed.
“What are you doing here Jeongyeon?” Nayeon said calmly but her eyes say otherwise.
“What are you doing with that guy?! I though he cheated on you multiple times and now you’re with him?”
She really couldn’t explain why she was that angry. She just knew she didn’t want that guy around Nayeon. The thought of him holding Nayeon or kissing Nayeon was enough to make her go mad.
She didn’t want to see Nayeon with that guy.
That was the reason she never even attended the said wedding. She couldn’t bear the thought of that guy touching Nayeon.
“Excuse me but it’s none of your business! You’re not my mother and certainly not my girlfriend!”
It was like Nayeon poured ice cold water on her when she quoted what she said weeks ago. She could see the tears Nayeon was trying to stop from falling
Did I hurt her that much?
She wanted to hit herself really hard.
She took a step forward. “Nayeon” She whispered
But Nayeon took a step backwards
“Stop. I’ve had enough Jeongyeon. It hurts so much. And I’m tired. I’m tired of it.”
Even before she could react, Nayeon got in her apartment and slammed the door
She wanted to knock and wait until Nayeon opened the door for her but then she heard Nayeon’s sobs from the other side of the door, and she knew, she knew she would only do more damage if she pushed herself onto Nayeon
Jeongyeon left with tears on her own eyes.
God, I hurt her.
She hurt the only person who has never left her side. She hurt the one she never ever wanted to hurt. She hurt the most important person in her life right now.
A few weeks passed, Jeongyeon found out that Nayeon and her ex were working on a show together. She didn’t hesitate to attend the press conference.
All throughout the press conference she couldn’t keep her eyes off only one woman. God, she missed her. She wanted to be near her again. She wanted to be able to hold her and keep her by her side. But when she tried to approach her, she was avoided immediately.
Jeongyeon tried to run after her but she bumped into someone.
“Sorry” She said hastily not even looking at the person she bumped into. She roamed her eyes to look for the person but she was out of her sight.
“Jeongyeon?”
That voice made her look at the person standing in front of her.
It was her ex
And yet, the effect her ex used to have on her already vanished.
“Whoever you’re chasing, don’t let that person get away.”
“What?” She asked in confusion.
“This is the first time in a long time that you weren’t looking at me. And you have this crazy look in your eyes that says you’re in love. You used to look at me that way but not as intense. I think you found the one, Jeong” her ex smiled “You found… her?”
She nodded and smiled
“Thank you. Thank you for the 6 wonderful years. I hope you and your fiancé all the best”
Her ex beamed at her
“I want you and…?” Her ex asked subtly
“Nayeon”
She saw her ex’s eyes widened before she chuckled
“Of course! Of course, it’s Nayeon!”
“Yes, It’s definitely Nayeon” She agreed
“Well what are you waiting for? Go get her!”
She laughed and sprinted.
“And Jeong!” her ex shouted “Don’t be an idiot this time!”
“I won’t” Jeongyeon shouted back.
She felt her heart was light as she dashed her way to the parking lot.
Finally, closure.
When she was in the parking lot she saw Nayeon’s car already moving so she ran even faster and jumped right in front of Nayeon’s car.
Thank God Nayeon’s manager was able to step on the break or else she would go home with a broken limb or two.
“Are y—“ Nayeon’s manager was about to scold Jeongyeon when Nayeon went out of the car and shouted at Jeongyeon
“Are you crazy?! What the hell do you want?!”
And even though Nayeon was fuming, the latter still looked flawless n Jeongyeon’s eyes.
“You” She said softly
“I want you, Nayeon. And I want you o take responsibility of what you did to me, of what you’re dong to me” She said firmly
“I didn’t do anything to you. Are you drunk?” Nayeon asked with a frown.
“Nayeon, you’re making me crazy! Damn it! I haven’t been able to get you off my mind since the day you left. And I’m going mad because you’re avoiding me when all I want is to be near you!”
“Jeongyeon.” Nayeon whispered
“No, Nayeon, Listen. I don’t know how or when it started, but I just know that my feelings for you are different now! You’re the one I want to see at the start of everyday. I want to drive you and pick you ip from your sets ,I will wait for you until your shoots finish even though it ends in 5 in the morning. I want to come home to you. I want to be able to tell the world that I love you and not just a friend. I want to tell all of them that I am in love with you!” She stopped for a while to breath in air
Nayeon was about to interrupt but she raised her hand signaling the latter to stop whatever she was going to do.
“Nayeon, I’m a mess right now and you might think my feelings are not true but I promise you, it is. You probably even don’t feel the same way or see me that way and I’ve hurt you and may probably still hurt you along the way, but please, just give me a chance to make you happy for the rest of your life, that the pain will be worth it.” She once again paused and looked at Nayeon straight in the eyes
“Nayeon, I love you. I’m in love with you.”
She waited with bated breath and erratic heart beat for Nayeon’s reaction.
Shit.
Jeongyeon put it all out there. It wasn’t her fault Nayeon made her crazy like that. She was just so in love with her.
“You’re stupid…”
She felt like she just died, thinking that it was all over. She looked down on her two feet with her shoulders down,
“And hella dense…”
When Jeongyeon heard that she looked back up at Nayeon who was looking at her.
“I’ve been in love with you since God knows how long”
She smiled was painted on her face.
She closed the gap between her and Nayeon in shock. She enveloped Nayeon’s figure in her arms.
They fit like puzzle.
“You love me?” Jeongyeon asked
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Nayeon. So damn much it’s making me crazy” She whispered before leaning back.
She saw the happiness and love in Nayeon’s eyes. And when Nayeon smiled, she was drawn to the latter’s lips. She leaned down and Nayeon met her halfway.
When their lips touched, it felt like the first ray of sunshine.
She was enchanted.
