Basket Case

Work Text:

The house was way too quiet when Frankie opened the front door. Usually, he came home to music echoing off the walls, you singing along while you finished cooking dinner. He couldn’t smell anything cooking either, and started to worry. A basket of dirty clothes sat in front of the closet that housed your washer and dryer, overflowing with socks and underwear. Glancing through the open bedroom door, he saw a few of your drawers open and his heart stopped.

Suddenly this felt like coming home to find his ex gone. She’d grabbed everything she owned and left, a trail of Frankie’s mess, and his broken heart, behind her.

He turned to check the rest of the house, needing desperately to know if he’d lost you too when he heard a sob from the other side of the room. “Sweetheart?” he called softly. He heard you gasp and knew he’d startled you.

He rounded the bed and found you, wrapped in your favorite blanket, hair wild and eyes red. He melted at the sight. “Oh honey, “ he knelt down, brushing a hand across your damp cheek. “What happened?” “Oh Frankie, I’m just so useless. I tried to make that cake you love and it collapsed and then the clothes weren’t drying at all and I went to get dressed and go to the store and I’m just so fat and gross and why on earth would you stay with me?” You sobbed into your hands, tears dripping down the blanket.

“Querida,” Frankie soothed, wrapping his arms around you, “querida look at me.” Your bleary eyes meet his. “You are so far from useless mi amor. Cakes fall. I’ll look at the dryer. And you are the most beautiful creature I have ever seen in anything you wear. Or nothing you wear.” You chuckled slightly at that. “You helped me get better when I was in the worst place I’ve ever been. When I wanted to give up. That’s not useless.” “You could do so much better than me.” “There is nothing in this universe better for me than you amada. Nothing.” You nestled into Frankie’s shoulder and he moved to sit beside you.

“I love you Francisco Morales,” you murmured.

“I love you too amada. Do you want me to get you something?”

“Just sit with me. Sit beside me.”

“Always mi amor, always.”
