Work Text:

They’re curled up in the bunks together, trading kisses and giggling quietly. They were supposed to get out of bed ages ago, spend their one evening off getting dinner with the guys. Instead, Michael and Luke are laying on their sides in Luke’s bunk, curtain pulled and world shrunken to just the two of them.

Luke has one leg hooked over Michael’s waist, pressing Michael close to him, connected from the waist down. Michael’s running his fingers up and down Luke’s bare thigh, marveling at how soft he feels, despite the coarse layer of hair on his legs. Michael grins, burying his face into Luke’s neck to press soft kisses to the stubble at his jawline, fingers dancing underneath Luke’s boxers. Luke giggles again, mumbling something about being ticklish, as he half-heartedly pushes Michael away.

Michael isn’t deterred, keeps pressing kisses to Luke’s neck, squeezing his thighs, holding him close. Luke traces the edges of Michael’s jaw in his fingers, pulling him back to kiss him again.

“We promised to go see Cal and Ash,” Michael says, barely even a comment, just a mumbled half thought as he pulls Luke in for a kiss, pressing one to his cheeks, his nose, his chin. Luke hums his acknowledgment of Michael’s statement, continuing to nip at Michael’s lips. He tightens his hold on Michael pulling him in closer with his foot.

“Probably should eat something,” Luke says, ducking his head to suck a bruise as Michael’s collarbone. Michael sighs, eyelids fluttering as he holds Luke in place, tangling his fingers into Luke’s hair, soft blonde waves in between his fingers.

“Probably,” Michael mumbles, tipping his head back to give Luke better access to his neck, letting Luke nip and suck along his skin. Normally, Michael would make a comment about Luke being a vampire, trying to draw blood, but he’s too caught up in the sensation of it all right now, still holding tight to Luke’s thigh, playing with his hair.

Luke pulls back, lips bright red and kiss swollen, grinning as a strand of hair falls into his eyes. Michael reels him in for a kiss, sucking his bottom lip into his mouth, noses bumping together.

“We should get up,” Luke mumbles against Michael’s lips. Michael grins, pressing another kiss to his lips, tugging at his piercing. Luke giggles, returning Michael’s kiss.

“Or text the guys,” Michael mumbles back, letting Luke press more kisses to him, fingers brushing along the skin of Michael’s waist. Michael huffs, squirming under Luke’s fingers as he digs them in, smiling gleefully as he does it again just to hear Michael laugh, swat at Luke.

Michael thinks they’re supposed to be doing something, anything. Taking advantage of being alone on the bus to fool around, taking advantage of their night off to get dinner and watch a movie with the guys, spend quality time as a band together.  Instead, Luke and Michael are wrapped up in each other. It’s rare that they get to spend time together like this, just the two of them, the rest of the world turned off.

It’s still fresh, the two of them together like this . Getting to trade kisses and cuddles, having Luke wrap his arms around Michael’s waist and hook his chin over Michael’s shoulder until Michael gives him kisses and kind words. Not that Michael was ever mean before per say, but he was pricklier than he should have been, trying to cover up the burn in his chest whenever Luke glanced his way, the way his heart would flutter when Luke smiled at him. He spent far too much time, curling up in Luke’s space, legs in his lap, draped over his body trying to hide his crush, how desperate he was for all of Luke’s attention on him, the way Luke would wrap his arms around Michael, kiss his temple. Michael never knew how to ask for what he wanted, but Luke always seemed to know exactly what Michael needed.

Even when they first started dating, Luke was the one to finally muster up enough courage to ask Michael for something more. Nervously playing with the edge of his shirt, chewing on his lip ring, asking Michael if he wanted to go out sometime.

“Like hang out?”

“No, like a date. Do you wanna go out sometime?”

“Like...we can hold hands and kiss?” Michael had asked, too startled to voice anything else. Luke had laughed, tension dropping from his shoulders as he smiled.

“Yeah. That is what dating usually involves.”

“I’d love to,” Michael had rushed out, blushing brightly. He would have been embarrassed if not for the way Luke beamed, grabbing his hand and squeezing tightly.

It’s only been a few months, but it all still feels bright and new, like if Michael blinks it might all be a dream. It’s not, of course. Dreams don’t snore or steal half the sheets or whine when you try to get out of bed before 10:00am because you have interviews to get to.

Although in lots of ways, Luke is a dream. He’s funny, in the dry way he always is, quick witted and goofy. He always seems to know exactly what Michael needs to feel better, whether it’s a hug or space or something to eat. He’s the perfect boyfriend. Michael thinks he’s in love with him, but it feels natural. The sky is blue, the bunks are too small, and Michael loves Luke. It’s just a fact of life.

“Where’d you go?” Luke asks, tilting his head as he gazes at Michael. Michael blushes, fleeting his eyes down to look at Luke’s bright blue gaze, soft blonde curls in them. Michael smiles, brushing them out of his eyes.

“Just thinking about how much I love you.”

“Well of course you do. I’m very lovable,” Luke says, quips, laughing when Michael lightly shoves him before reeling him back in, pressing a slow, easy kiss to Luke’s lips. Luke sighs into the kiss, smiling against Michael’s lips as he pulls them close, fingers in Michael’s hair.

“I love you too,” Luke says when they break apart.

“I’m very lovable,” Michael teases him back. Luke snorts, rolling his eyes before kissing Michael again.

“Let's just stay here,” Luke whispers.

“Let’s” Michael whispers back, kissing Luke again. Screw the world outside their bunks. Michael’s got his world right here in his arms.
