Sae-byeok wouldn’t in a million years expect to be spending her night like this. Currently she was curled up, snuggling with her best friend, or now considered girlfriend, Ji-yeong. The warmth oozing off the shorter girl made Sae-byeok’s chest feel fuzzy. Her normally cold, stoic face felt warm.
Was she getting sick? She hoped she wasn’t, not wanting to even risk getting Ji-yeong sick. As if the shorter girl could read her mind, she looked up with hazy eyes. “You’re blushing…” the girl chuckled tiredly.
Sae-byeok felt her eyes widen. “Don’t worry…” the soft, tired voice pierced through her thoughts. “Red is a good color on you…” the latter chuckled aloud, kissing the taller, freckled girl on the nose.
“I hope I didn’t wake you up…” Sae-byeok murmured, turning her head away, before quickly feeling the warm girl’s hands on her cheeks forcing her to face her.
Ji-yeong smiled softly. “Nah. I’ve been awake. I couldn’t help thinking about how pretty you are!” she giggled, watching as Sae-byeok’s blush deepened.
“Qu-quit it…” Sae-byeok murmured, blushing from the compliments that she hadn’t heard in years.
“I’m sorry, but it’s true!” Ji-yeong chuckled.
Sae-byeok gingerly shushed her, not wanting to wake her younger brother, who was snoozing in the room next to theirs. Ji-yeong smiled, hugging Sae-byeok closer. She rested her head on the blushing girl’s chest, being nearly nose-to-nose with the latter.
Sae-byeok yawned. “Can we lie down again..?” she asked sleepily, her arms snaking around Ji-yeong to reciprocate the gentle hug.
Ji-yeong smiled. “You don’t have to ask! Of course! Don’t want you snoozing on me and I couldn’t move from such an awkward position!” she giggled, laying down and pulling the taller girl down with her, bringing them nose to nose on their sides.
Sae-byeok blinked in visible confusion. “I don’t weigh that much? Couldn’t you just move or wake me up?” she asked, pulling a wheeze from the shorter of the two.
“Nope! It’s basically couples law that if your significant other is asleep on you, you aren’t allowed to move or wake them up!” Ji-yeong concluded, leaving a very confused Sae-byeok staring back at her.
“There are ‘couples rules?’” she asked, still visibly confused.
Ji-Yeong nodded enthusiastically. “Yep! Lots!” she giggled, loving the invitation she was given to talk.
Sae-byeok’s nose twitched. “What are some..? I wouldn’t wanna break them…” she murmured.
It was no secret between the two that Sae-byeok knew absolutely nothing about romance at all. Ji-yeong didn’t mind though. She often found it fun to tease her new girlfriend. But she often found it fun to shower her with the affection that she was never used to.
Ji-yeong also enjoyed being showered with affection by Sae-byeok, which she hadn’t felt in years. Ji-yeong often adored how awkward, yet sincere and honest Sae-byeok was. When they had first met, Sae-byeok’s brutal honesty was usually used for insults.
But now, whenever Sae-byeok told her she loved her, or gave her compliments, no matter how flustered or awkward the taller girl was, Ji-yeong knew she meant it.
“Okay, so first you have to be 100% honest with them, unless you are giving them a surprise or something like that!” she said. Sae-byeok nodded.
Ji-yeong noticed that the taller girl didn’t realize that she was making this up on the fly. A sincere smile spread across her face as she kept talking. She knew Sae-byeok was intelligent. Probably more intelligent then she’d ever be, but damn was this girl dense when it came to jokes or anything romance related.
Of course, Ji-yeong didn’t mind that at all. No matter how many times Sae-byeok would think and say how she didn’t deserve Ji-yeong, she would be hit by a bullet train of love and reassurance.
‘God I don’t deserve her…’ Sae-byeok thought to herself, watching with admiration and love as her girlfriend rambled.
Sae-byeok knew she didn’t, but at the same time, a part of her didn’t care. It said that she should be allowed to be selfish every once in a while, so she took this relationship as one of those times.
Sae-byeok noticed her girlfriend's rambling begin to slow as the girl had begun to tire herself out from talking. Without another word, Sae-byeok pulled her in close, feeling the girl’s rambling against her chest slow down more and more as she began to fall asleep.
Even if it felt creepy, Sae-byeok loved watching Ji-yeong sleep. Something about her felt so… endearing. The way her face smoothed, her mouth opened with a droplet of drool sticking out.
Sae-byeok also found it adorable how Ji-yeong even smiled in her sleep. She rested her head atop the shorter girl’s, letting Ji-yeong’s warmth transfer to her body.
A love induced smile blossomed on her face like how the flowers outside are beginning to bloom in the warm, early spring air.
‘I could get used to this…’ she thought, keeping the smile plastered on her face, up until her slumber began to take over, and she fell asleep.
