Work Text:

She was on her way to breakfast when an arm shot out and tugged her into an empty room.

She pulled away and whipped her wand out. “I’ll give you one minute to explain before I hex the hell out of you. Begin.”

Donghyuck looked like he hadn’t slept in days, and the sadness in his eyes- it took her everything not to hug him. What he deserved was to rot in Azkaban. “Fuck. It wasn’t-”

“Fourty five seconds.”

“I must have been framed. They must have used Polyjuice-”

She scoffed. “Who the bloody hell are they? Why would they do this? How am I supposed to believe you?”

“I wish I knew. I don’t remember shit from the last few days. Nothing.” Donghyuck sank to the floor. He couldn’t hold back the tears. “Merlin’s beard! Do you really think I could kill? Kill my family and friends in cold blood?”

“I didn’t want to believe it.” She couldn’t meet his eyes. “Shit, I didn’t know what to think.” She let out a laugh, bitter and broken. “ I thought I’d kill you, at first. But then we’d be no different, would we?” She sighed and sat down next to him. “Obliviated, huh?”

Donghyuck put his head on her shoulder. He didn’t say anything, shaking as he let his feelings fall out in the form of tears.

After she brought back breakfast for Donghyuck to eat, she told him to stay out of sight and out of trouble. As much as she didn’t want to leave him alone, she couldn’t miss her classes and he couldn’t show himself while he was still a wanted man. Fortunately, there weren’t any dementors around Hogwarts hunting for him. Even so, it was still risky, especially since Donghyuck was a reckless git.

Also Mark wouldn’t hesitate to turn Donghyuck in if he saw him. Despite being cousins who’d once seemed close, now there was no doubt about their fierce rivalry. Mark was more or less leading the witchhunt for Haechan at Hogwarts. There was no way she could let Mark know Donghyuck was around.

Unfortunately, keeping secrets from Mark wasn’t her strength.

“What are you hiding from me?” Mark wasn’t smiling anymore. When he felt her keeping him out of her head, his grip on her tightened and his scowl deepened.

“I don’t think Donghyuck did it.” It wasn’t the best thing to say, but it was true enough.

Mark didn’t look entirely convinced. Still he let go of her.

“I don’t want you to get involved with anything to do with Donghyuck. Whether he’s guilty or not, there’s danger involved.”

Mark Lee. Her boyfriend. The last living heir of the Lee family, aside from Donghyuck. The one the inheritance would go to if everyone else was out of the way.

She couldn’t break free from the magical bindings. She flinched as Mark caressed her cheeks. “Darling, you shouldn’t have dug deeper. You should have fucking listened to me. Now look at what I have to do.” He chuckled, gripping her chin and forcing her to look into his eyes. “Don’t worry I won’t kill you. You’ll just have to forget a few things, and everything will be back to normal.”

Things would never be the same. She had trusted Mark. Yet he had killed his family, framed his cousin, and now he was going to remove her memories.

“I didn’t do a good enough job with my dear cousin, but this time I’ll be damn thorough.” Mark pointed his wand at her. “Obliviate!”
