Work Text:

Bucky stretched slightly on the blanket that he was laying on. He felt like a cat as he enjoyed the warm sunshine coming through the overhead trees.

Steve was sitting a few feet from him. He was sketching the landscape in front of him with color pencils. This is probably the second sketchbook he had filled up in the last few weeks of random things. A lot of the picture were of Bucky, but they usually were. He figured today was a nice day, and he had nothing scheduled so he and Bucky had a picnic, and now he was sketching landscapes.

“Are there any more sandwiches?” Steve smiled over at Bucky.

He put the orange pencil down in hand, and searched in the small pile at his feet. He picked up a yellow one.

Bucky yawned, and sat up. He looked through the picnic basket. “How about a cookie?”

“Sounds good.” He was already back to sketching and wasn’t looking at Bucky.

Bucky moved towards him and pretended like he was going to put the cookie in Steve’s mouth. Instead he lightly kissed him.

Steve dropped the sketchbook, and pulled him into a deeper kiss.

He dropped the color pencil, and pulled Bucky on top of him.

They had been kissing for a few minutes, when someone cleared their throat behind them.

“Hey, my kids play in this woods, can you not let them catch you having sex again?”

Bucky groaned slightly as he pulled away from Steve. “That was only Laura.” They had only had sex in the woods one time. Steve seemed to finally be getting his sex drive back in the last few days. He may have been taking advantage of it when they had free time. They had spent a lot of time in the past few week
s doing random chores around the homestead.

“It’s Saturday though.” Clint set a plate of sandwiches down on a corner of the blanket near where Steve was sitting. “Laura sent you guys some more sandwiches.”

“Your wife is an angel, please tell her thank you. I really appreciated you guys letting us stay here.” Steve said as he picked up one of the sandwiches, and took a bite.

Clint sat down next to them on the grass. “Other than last Saturday, where Bucky taught my kids to be nerf gun snippers against me.”

Bucky chuckled delightfully. “They loved it.”

Clint rolled his eyes, even though his kids had loved it. Clint was going to show them how to use the hiding from being a sniper to use with archery later if they wanted. He looked like he was about to say something else, but his phone started to ring.

He pulled his cell phone out. It was from Tony, he hit reject on the call. “Tony.”

“Maybe he wants to talk to you.” Steve gave a soft smile.

“I am sure he wants to talk to me, Mr. avoiding phone calls. “

“I talked to Nat and Sam.” Steve hadn’t talk to them more than a few minutes at a time. He didn’t want to talk to them much, they were going to ask about how he was doing, and he didn’t want to deal with that right now. He barely had even talked about what had happened with Bucky, though Bucky was always there at night when he nightmares about the kidnapping, and the videos he had watched of Bucky being wiped.

Steve wasn’t even sure if his cellphone was charged at the moment. He hadn’t even picked it up for a few days, between helping around here, and art, he hadn’t felt like it. The phone was just a distraction anyway, just reminding him of missed phone calls and texts.

It had only been 3 weeks since he had been gone. Though, to be fair, except when he was a fugitive, this was the longest he had been away from the Avengers.
Even his and Bucky’s honeymoon had only been a couple days, but that was more from Nick Fury showing up their hotel in Florida because he needed Bucky for an assignment. Steve was going to try to sneak another day in Disney by himself the next day, but Tony had called a few hours Bucky had left.

Clint’s phone rang again, and he hit reject again.

A few seconds later, Bucky’s phone started vibrating. He grumbled at it. He was supposed to keep it on him incase his shrink or Nick Fury called.

He answered the phone. “Hi, Tony.” He said as deadpanned as possible.

“Hi Bucky boy---““NO.” He hung up the phone.

“He called me Bucky Boy,” Bucky laid back in the position he had been in before. He didn’t like anyone to call him that. Sam had started calling him that as a joke, and apparently other people thought they could use it, he never even gave Sam permission to say it.
“People not respecting their elders.” He mumbled mainly to himself.

Clint’s phone rang again. He answered this time, and put it on speaker. “Hi Tony. Bucky said he is going to kill you next time you called Bucky boy”

“Makes sense why Sam is still laughing. Look is Steve there?”

“I am not going back yet,” Steve said, he had gone back to his picture.

Tony laughed weakly, “I really wasn’t going to ask that. I am really just checking on you.”

Steve sighed. “Look, Tony I will call you back tomorrow or later this week. I really don’t feel like talking.”

“We are all here if you need anything.”

Steve nodded. He knew the other avengers were only trying to help. That was also the reason, Clint kept finding tasks for him around the homestead that needed to be done. “Okay, Tony.”

It had actually been only a few nights since he hadn’t woken up in a cold sweat from nightmares. Bucky had just been there to cuddle Steve until he felt safe again.

“I got to go, I am getting another call.” Clint said, as his phone was really beeping in another call.

“I know I am coming back right now.” Clint hung up the phone, got up, and headed off. “Forgot Lila has dance rehearsal, and Laura is taking Cooper and Nat to a baseball game. We are finishing the fence tomorrow, and Laura said dinner will be done about 6, she has chicken and dumpling in the crock pot. Don’t be late, or we will eat it all.”

“See you later,” Bucky called after him. He put his arms under his head, and stretch out fully.

Steve put down his art supplies, he laid his head on Bucky’s chest.

Bucky wrapped his metal arm around Steve.

“You aren’t mad I haven’t talked about anything.”

“No, you don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to, or aren’t ready to talk about.” He stroked Steve’s hair with his right hand.

“I just don’t want to be a bother,” Steve hated to tell people his feelings. Usually he didn’t mind telling Bucky though, but if he started to talk about what happened, he would have to admit right before Zemo hit level 5 on the device electrocuting him, he had actually thought he wasn’t going to make it out alive. He had never felt so hopeless or so close to death that he could remember.

“You’ve never been a bother, Steve, and you have been there a million times for me when I had nightmares and just needed someone to hug me.” He kissed the top of Steve’s head. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

He closed his eyes, letting him take in the nice day, and the warmth of his husband cuddling him. He knew he had to go back soon. He was captain America, he was supposed to save the world. He was just enjoying the break. He had probably needed a vacation for a long time. It was nice to finally be able to get one. Maybe he should start taking more days off.
