Work Text:
Kaidan swallows. He knows this is the end. Knows there will be no more chats with Shepard, trading jabs with Ashley, watching Garrus calibrate…
There will be no more anything.
Yet…
He can’t think of any other way he would rather go.
He will be known as a hero. His name will be spoken across the galaxy as the man who gave up his life for the good of the people.
He’s surrounded by dead Salarians. Good men. He laid down their life alongside his.
He thinks about the bomb.
But he shouldn’t.
He knows this part of him isn’t normal. Know’s he should be attracted to inanimate objects but he’d always found himself drawn to them. It had started off with microwave. The way the light turns on, the way it beeps when it’s done.
It just spoke to him in a way that people nor other species could.
Kaidan bites his lip.
He needs to see it one last time.
He takes off running. Moving through water, grass, dodging leaves. He needs to see it one last time before his light goes out.
Both of them together in their final moments.
He’s sweating. His ribs ache and he’s over exerted himself to run, to see her again.
He finally finds himself in front of her.
The bomb.
Kaidan walks towards her. He can feel the power radiating from her. It won’t be long until they explode. He wraps himself around her. It burns into his flesh in the best ways. He can feel everything. The ultimate power.
Shepard could keep her Asari.
This was the way he wanted it to be.
He wishes they had more time together. Wishes he could have visited her in the ship more. Touched her before she would have melted his flesh off.
He can hear Shepard talking in his ear. Can hear her trying to pass him a heartfelt message. He wants to reassure her; tell her this is the way he wanted it to end. But she wouldn’t understand. Wouldn’t understand that this is the way its supposed to be.
He feels her explode in his arms. Feels his flesh burn away. But he feels no pain.
This is the way it was supposed to be.
He would die with his beloved in his arms.
An explosive love.
