Bingo Square Fill: First Kiss - get your shit together.
Sam went up the steps of their home. House hunting was tiring. They’ve been travelling across Louisiana for a few days now, looking at the options for Bucky and him to stay in.
“This is nice,” Sam said as he walked through the door.
“Yeah,” Bucky agreed. The kitchen was spacious with many windows, and the living room had a fireplace. There were steps that lead to two bedrooms and so much more. Sam placed his hands on his hips and stared at the wooden floor.
“Something wrong?” Bucky asked and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder.
“Yeah,” Sam replied “it’s just that…Riley and I were - well, we talked about moving in together.” He bit his lip.
“I’m sorry,” his friend said “if you’re not ready we can–”
“No,” Sam smiled reassuringly, “I want to do this with you.”
He smiled back “okay…”
Sam wandered around the kitchen. “I think we could call this home,”
“Yeah,” James agreed. “I think we can.” Home is wherever I’m with you, Sam. Home is with you.
They walked up to the balcony where the sun was setting and they could see the rows of houses and soft lights from the buildings below. Sam smiled at the view. The soft orange and pinks collided with the striking white clouds to create a masterpiece. Bucky turned to look at Sam. His eyes were a delicate brown, eyelashes so soft, the little gap between his teeth when he smiled. It took his breath away. Bucky felt his heart race at the sight of him.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered.
Sam turned to him “what?”
He blushed. “Uh, I said the view is beautiful,”
“Yeah,” Sam laughed. “I agree.”
They stood like this for a while. In peaceful silence. Bucky could imagine a home here, with Sam. A life with Sam sounded so blissful, fun and exciting. He couldn’t wait. Their shoulders and hands brushed every now and then as they took in the sights.
“Are you hungry?” Bucky asked “I saw a seafood place down the road-”
“Yes,” Sam smiled, “let’s eat.”
It’s not like they haven’t eaten together alone before. This is different. They’re creating a future together. They’re living together. God; Bucky was going to wake up to Sam’s pretty face every morning. That felt like enough. Sam is enough. He means everything…
On the way to the restaurant, Sam fondly talked about his nephews Cass and AJ. The two kids were so smart and kind. Sarah raised them well.
“Table for two please,” Sam said. The waiters led them to a table in the far corner. They sat down and waited.
“This is nice, just the two of us.” Bucky teased.
“Yeah, yeah…”
“I’m serious,” he smiled softly - he hesitated for a moment - “you make me happy Sam…and I’m grateful for that.”
Sam’s face lit up and grinned. He playfully nudged him “thank you, who knew you were such a sap?”
Bucky’s heart skipped a beat.
The two of them ordered food and talked about the type of furniture they wanted to have, Sam trying to convince Bucky to get new clothes, the local stores, the location…Truth was, Bucky loved spending time with Sam. They rarely get to spend time alone anymore since Sam became Captain America and went off flying in the sky.
Bucky was jealous of the sky. Not entirely, but the sky engulfed Sam and his smile and laugh, the sky made him look like an angel. The sky got to see the grace and poise of Sam’s flying skills and Bucky had to look up from the ground, wishing he could see everything.
“We should go to a bar sometime,” Sam suggested.
“Sure,” he smiled. The two of them locked eyes and he felt his heart rate pick up. Sam had such pretty eyes. It’s embarrassing how much Bucky wanted to kiss the man. He wants to kiss him so much. He wondered what his lips would feel like against his. He wondered what it was like to hold him...
“Dad, look! It’s Captain America!”
Of course. Of course fans would find their way here. It’s not like Bucky’s jealous - right? A little girl pulled her dad along to Sam, holding a Captain America figure. Sam almost choked on his drink from the little girl’s shouting. He composed himself.
The little girl had curly dark hair, “Mr Wilson, sir, can you sign this for me please?”
Sam smiled fondly. He asked for her name and she said “Annie”. Annie and her father laughed with Sam about something.
God, Bucky thought he’s so good with kids…What if we had our own kids?

There were many boxes to be carried into the home. “Wow,” Sam said as he counted the amount of things “you don’t have a lot.”
Bucky huffed “well, that means less items to load,” he looked up at him and smiled.
“I can’t believe we’re doing this,” Sam grinned. His eyes flickered to Bucky’s lips. He’s always wanted to kiss him, but he’s never had the guts to. Bucky’s smile was pure. Who could ever like Sam? Who could ever love him?
Could Bucky ever love him? He shakes the thought away as the two of them continue to carry boxes up into their new home. He was going to live with Bucky. It was too good to be true.
They started unpacking and bickering about the amount of things they have. Bucky loved every little thing about Sam. It made him crazy. “You want to paint the walls?” Sam asked and pointed at the wall next to the living room.
Bucky folded his arms and stared “yeah, this yellow-white colour is disgusting.”
“Good. Glad we’re on the same page. Can you carry those boxes to our room?”
Bucky blinked. He smiled teasingly “our room? I thought we were going to have separate rooms,”
Sam rolled his eyes playfully “I just want my stuff to move to my room. The one closests to the stairs.”
Bucky pouted softly “if you want to share a room, Samuel that’s okay.”
His friend huffed and punched him playfully “just carry my stuff, won’t you?”
Bucky had to admit, it was tempting to share a room with Sam. Just imagining waking up next to Sam made his body flush with heat. He carried up a box of Sam’s things to his room. He placed it down gently and watched the dust puff up. They already started moving in furniture and bits and pieces.
He sees a photograph of Riley in one of the boxes. Bucky doesn’t touch or look at it further. He continues bringing up his own boxes. He only has around three boxes of items. Sam has so many.
He looks around and sighs happily. He could definitely call this home. Especially with Sam. With that smile? It made his heart flutter and his insides feel funny. He walked around and stopped at Sam’s room. The wallpaper was peeling, but they were going to paint it. There was a bed with a mattress on it on the corner.
He leaned against the doorframe, imagining Sam’s smile and the sounds of food on the grill, the TV going on in the background and his laughter. This was home and damn was it worth every second.
Sam walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. “Why are you just standing there?”
Bucky smiled, unstartled by his presence. “I’m glad I get to have a home with you, Sam,”
Sam’s breath hitched. He smiled back and he felt smitten. Like he was dripping head to toe with love and happiness. Bucky’s voice was so soft.
Sam’s smile was so cute. Bucky wanted nothing more than to kiss him silly. They were standing so close. He didn’t know what to say. “Are you finished packing?” Bucky finally said after a long, drawn-out pause.
“Almost,” Sam yawned and rubbed his eyes.
“Have you slept?” Bucky asked, concerned. He folded his arms and looked into Sam’s eyes “I can take some work load off you, if you want.”
“No, it's okay.” Sam replied. Bucky always did that. Making sure he was okay. Making sure he was safe. He’s always wanted to bring it up but he didn’t want to make it weird between them.
“You sure?”
“Yeah,” Sam looked into his eyes, “I’m sure.”

Sarah wanted to see the new house immediately. Sam couldn’t blame her. Living a domestic life with Barnes just made his heart flutter. He would wake up, do a morning run and come home to Bucky making coffee for the two of them.
Not to mention, his morning voice was so cute.
Sarah walked into the house, impressed that they kept it so clean. There were empty paint buckets and trays on the side from re-doing the walls and Bucky was getting something out of the oven.
“You guys did things well,” she smiled “hey, Bucky!”
He looked up “oh,” he broke out into a smile “hey, Sarah.”
“How are things?” she asked, walking over to the kitchen. She noticed a good amount of house plants and decor.
Cass and AJ burst through the door happily and ran up to Sam. He was tackled with a hug and he laughed. Bucky grew softer by the minute. He heard a faint ‘you’ve gotten taller!’, ‘yes, AJ, I have been doing Cap-things’ - God, Sam was so cute. His heart clenched.
“Good,” he replied “you want coffee?” he said as he removed the warm pie out of the oven and placed it on the table to cool down.
Cass and AJ turned their attention to Bucky, they ran over and hugged him. He burst out in laughter and almost stumbled backwards, Sam walked over and leaned against the wall - his eyes were soft at the sight of Bucky with his nephews.
“You’ve both gotten stronger!” he chuckled.
“Uncle Bucky!” Cass laughed, “does Uncle Sam snore?”
His heart soared when they called him that. He gave a discreet nod. Yes. Sam does snore and it's the cutest, most precious thing in the world. “Can we get a house tour?” AJ ran over and tugged on Sam’s sleeve.
Bucky laughed, the kids were filled with so much energy. They began with a house tour, the kitchen, living room - then the laundry room and bathroom on the first floor. The second floor had two bedrooms. Sam’s room was a little larger than Bucky’s and there was a room down the hallway, it was just a separate little room with a small rug and bookshelves. There were board games and bean bags.
“What’s this one?” AJ asked with bright eyes.
“Your playroom.” Sam explained with a smile.
Sarah’s expression softened “Sam, Bucky, you didn’t need to–”
“It’s fine,” Bucky grinned, “the suit is stored in the garage anyway. This was much more fun to make.”
Sam turned to him and their eyes met. There was a familiar softness when Bucky looked at him. It’s like he’s looking at pure gold and starlight. He has no idea why he looks at him like that.
“Thanks Uncle Sam and Uncle Bucky!” Cass said and hugged them both.
Bucky placed a soft hand on Sam’s shoulder “I should start getting food prepared.”
He nodded and Sarah nudged him teasingly once he was downstairs. “Sarah,” he sighed, “don’t give me that look.”
“Oh my gosh, Sam!” Sarah chuckled “ask him out already! You two clearly like each other!”
Sam watched as Cass and AJ playfully tackled each other. He smiled fondly. “I can’t, Sarah,” he mumbled.
“Every person with a pair of eyes and a brain will tell you that Bucky is in love with you,” she said with a smug smile.
It was a ‘get your shit together’ sentence.
He covered his face with embarrassment and lightly pushed her. Was Bucky actually in love with him? Do they both have the same desire?
A few minutes later, the four of them walked down to see Bucky in an apron, serving pie, chicken and pastries. The apron said ‘Kiss The Chef’ and goddamn was Sam tempted to. “Where’d you get the apron?” Sam asked as they all sat down.
“Sarah gave it to me while we were moving.” Bucky explained.
Sam quirked an eyebrow at her sister. She just smiled and nodded to Bucky. She mouthed ‘ask him out!’. Sam felt his cheeks flush. The whole lunch was exquisite, fun and exciting. Bucky and Sam brushed elbows and hands every now and then.
Bucky was awkward about it, directing his gaze away from Sam’s with a firm blush on his cheeks. The whole lunch was a back and forth, finding each other’s eyes and avoiding it at once. Bucky was so awkward around Sam, he hated it. The way Sam laughed and smiled…
It just wanted to make him kiss Sam more.
Sam noticed the way Bucky flinched at his touch more nowadays and he avoided eye contact. Why was he tense around Sam?
They decided to go to the docks, the sun was bright and the air was warm. Sam was watching Cass and AJ trying to fish and Sarah sat down next to him, Bucky was a little far away.
He was deep in thought. He stared out into the water, thinking of Sam. He looked down to his hands and thought what it would be like to hold Sam in his arms. To kiss him. He let out a heavy sigh.
“Is Bucky okay?” Sarah asked.
“I dunno,” Sam replied and stared at him, “I should go check.”
Bucky could hear Sam’s footsteps approaching him. “You good?”
Sam’s voice. It made him melt. “Yeah,” Bucky nodded and turned to him “just enjoying the view…”
“You sure?” Sam teased “you seemed tense.”
“I’m fine,” he mumbled.
Sam paused, “you seem tense around me.”
Bucky sighed “I’m not...quite the opposite actually.” You melt me, Sam. You make me feel things.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
Bucky could feel Sam’s warm breath against his neck. He blushed and turned to him. Sam almost stopped breathing. Bucky looked at him; looked at him like he was the world. “I...I’m in love with you,” he replied in a small whisper.
Sam took his nervous hands and smiled at him. “You are?” he asked and intertwined their fingers.
Bucky nodded slowly.
“Good,” Sam smiled and brought their lips together. It took a good while for Bucky to register what he was doing. He was kissing Sam Wilson. His stomach fluttered and he brought him closer. This was worth every sunrise and sunset of every day. Sam Wilson was worth it.
“You’re worth it,” Bucky mumbled softly against his lips, “you’re worth every moment.”
Sam smiled “that’s good to know,” he kissed him again and he heard a satisfied shout from Sarah.
“Finally!”
He chuckled and looked into Bucky’s eyes. “So, you wanna be my boyfriend?” Sam asked and laughed.
Bucky nodded “of course,”
It was good that they finally got their shit together.
