Work Text:
You never believed in ghosts, or the afterlife, but after the life you led, it was no surprise you found yourself here. Your time as an Avenger had taught you one thing: Life, and now consequently, death was strange and you couldn't predict the future.
You had died in Wakanda after you had come face to face with Thanos as you tried to protect The Vision and the mind stone. Your death was quick and easy as he pushed his blade through your stomach. You had died before he even had the chance to snap his fingers. And when you opened your eyes again, you knew you had been wring, the afterlife did exist.
As you watched your friends turn to dust around you, you had expected them to join you but they didnt, and nobody came. So all you could do now is watch and wait.
Your wife, Natasha, was the one to find your still warm body carelessly tossed to the side. It was the first time you had ever seen her cry.
Five years passed since Thanos had snapped, and you watched as Natasha slowly lost herself into finding a way to reversed the snap, or the Blip as it had been later called. Every time she didn't find a way to succeed, she lost a small part of herself.
That all changed when Scott Lang arrived at the compound. The day he arrived, you saw something in Natasha that you hadn't seen for a very long time: hope.
And that hope stayed with her until she arrived on the cliff of Vormir.
You watched as Natasha took in the information and started talking to Clint about who would go, both saying they knew who needed to do the seemingly impossible; die
"For the last five years," Natasha started, "I’ve been trying to do one thing -- get to right here. This is all it’s been about. Bringing everybody back. And if I have to die to do that, I don't mind, Clint."
"You want to see her again," Clint realised.
Nat smiled, "Is that so wrong."
"You have to let go, Natasha, you have to let (Y/N) go."
And in that moment, (Y/N) knew what Natasha was going to do and she was powerless in stopping Natasha running towards the cliff's edge. Clint was too slow, he couldn't stop her as she began to fall to her death.
Watching Natasha die was one of the hardest things you had ever done, but your reality was much more painful; she never joined you in the afterlife and you were stuck, alone until forever ends.
