Strawberry

Summary:

A moment of reprieve. An afternoon's worth of peace. Three boyfriends having a pointless argument about strawberries and kissing about it.

“Fuck!” Delta cried out in dismay as he crushed a strawberry. Phoe laughed gently, nudging Delta as he tried to shake the poor berry’s remnants off his tentacle.

“That’s why we use our hands, Dyl.” He said lightly. Delta rolled his eyes, smiling.

“It’s inefficient.” The squid said with a dramatic sigh. Still, he only pushed aside some leaves with his tentacles as he reached back into the plants, freeing his hands to pluck the berries.

“We don’t have to pick them all today.” Percy noted from the other side of the row. “Honestly, we planted way too many for that. We can just fill up a basket or two each and be fine for a while.” He popped a strawberry in his mouth, leaving nothing but the very top. “Mm. Or just eat them now…”

“Okay, that I can’t stand by.” Phoe said. “You need to rinse them off, at least! And put them in the fridge, too, they’re better when they’re just a bit cold.”

Delta shrugged. “It’s kind of a waste to eat them in any form but strawberry shortcake.” That got both of his boyfriends staring at him in disbelief. “What? It’s true. Strawberry shortcake is right up there on the list of greatest human inventions.”

“No argument there, but come on. Strawberries are good in every form, you can’t say it’s a waste…” Phoe grumbled.

“They’re good! But why eat them by themselves when strawberry shortcake is a million times better, that’s just basic math-” Percy, who had been quiet up until that point, bit into another strawberry before leaning over and kissing Delta on the lips. That shut him up immediately, even after Percy pulled away. Delta sat back, mouth slightly agape as a blush spread across his face and his tentacles curled into a heart shape. “I- uh- whoa- um- that’s certainly sweet. Nevermind.” He stammered as he regained control of his vocal cords.

Percy smiled, blowing him another kiss as he returned his focus to picking berries. Phoe smirked, leaning in towards Delta. “You changed your mind real easily, didn’t you?” He whispered teasingly. Delta laughed, still blushing as he leaned into Phoe. He smiled as an idea hit him, and he kissed Phoe.

Phoe’s eyes widened at surprise at the taste of strawberry still on his lips. Delta pulled away a little sooner than Phoe would have liked, grinning. “Oh, and I was just coming around to that flavor.” Phoe said.

Percy looked over, eyes glimmering with amusement. “We’ll see what tastes best by the time we’re done, alright?” Phoe and Delta nodded eagerly almost in sync, making Percy break out into laughter.

They never did settle which way berries tasted the sweetest. But they were happy enough to just pick them together, and have that debate in the warm sunshine between rows of strawberry plants.
