Work Text:
Kotoko had just been walking Fuuta back to the apartment (Mikoto’s) he was staying in after going out for a bit at an arcade. It definitely wasn’t exactly Fuuta’s favorite place or anything but Kotoko suggested it and he said he’d rather go there than some of the boring and cliche ideas she had so that's what they went with. It did seem that he enjoyed it a little more than he expected he was going to, so that was good. Even Kotoko had to admit that it was kind of fun being competitive with him in some of the games...
Lately, they really had been spending a lot more time with each other, and it’s definitely something neither of them really expected. Then again, how they met and even the fact they’re able to now is pretty unbelievable as well. It just ended up happening really, along with the ability to adjust to normal life again.
Well anyway… Kotoko was pretty glad that spending time together today was going well. She just had one more thing to do before they parted ways...
They then stopped walking when they reached the apartment door.
“That was… fun, I guess,” Of course, Fuuta isn’t going to fully admit he enjoyed the time he spent with her. Well, she’s gotten used to it enough.
“I thought so too,” Kotoko replied with a little hum.
He vaguely nodded at her response. Well, obviously. She was kind of aggressive with the air hockey rounds they played earlier, but she certainly looked happy while doing it.
Fuuta was about to open the door to head inside when she spoke up again, “Do you have one more moment to spare?” Kotoko leaned back against the railing of the walkway.
He blinked and paused for a second. “Uh. Yeah, sure..?” He then went over and leaned over the walkway railing next to her, facing the view of the ground below. What did she want now??
Kotoko just looked up at the ceiling, staying quiet for a couple more seconds. She already decided she was going to say it now, huh? Well, there shouldn’t be much in the way of her doing so anyway. She took in a breath.
Fuuta clicked his tongue after nearly a minute or so of just the weird silence, “Listen, if you got anything else to say or talk about, just spit it out-”
“Fuuta.”
He paused. “Yeah?”
“... I like you.” Kotoko breathed out, plain and simple in that nonchalant tone of hers too.
“...!?” He immediately looked up at her, she was still just staring up and not looking at him. What..? Fuuta opened his mouth to respond but he couldn’t get anything out.
“And… To be clear, I don’t mean it just as friends. I mean it romantically.” Kotoko lowered her gaze from the ceiling so she’s facing forward like normal now, but she still didn’t look at Fuuta.
Fuuta still remained completely speechless, his face clearly in disbelief, somehow even more so than when he heard the first three words.
“That was all I wanted to say...” She pushed herself off of the railing. “I’ll see you around.” She then immediately started briskly walking down the walkway back to the bottom floor, without looking back at Fuuta’s face once.
‘Why was that more difficult to get out than I expected..?’ Kotoko thought to herself as she basically power walked down the stairs. She actually kind of felt a lot more embarrassed than she thought she would after confessing that aloud to Fuuta, huh…
Meanwhile Fuuta was still in a sort of a state of stunned silence, just dumbly standing there outside the apartment. He normally would just be going back inside to probably continue procrastinating on university course load or playing some games but...
‘What the hell was that!? Why did she just leave after saying that of all things!!?’ Fuuta yelled in his mind. He really does not want to know how red his face looks right now, but he can feel it.
‘Wait… I didn’t respond to her at all… You actually fucking give a response when someone confesses to you, right?? Shit.’ He felt way more worried about this than he thought he would be. He probably was quiet for too long that she just decided to leave it at that.
‘God, what the fuck would I even say to respond to that!? That I fucking like her back!?’ He thought to himself.
That was exactly it though. Fuuta did, he really did. He liked her so much more than ever expected to. Of course after spending so much more time with her and somehow coming to understand her, his thoughts of her have changed. Who knew it could be this much though? He knew that it did but Kotoko really had to go and say that, forcing him to acknowledge the change in his feelings towards her. She really made it completely impossible to ignore it now.
“Fucking hell..!” He cursed to himself. He had to go after her. He won’t let it be left at that. He really needed to tell her now, it’s already on his mind. Fuuta then quickly ran down the stairs to try and catch up to her before she’d already gone home for the day.
“Oi! Kotoko!” He did manage to catch up to her, she was starting to walk towards the parking lot to take her leave. He grabbed her wrist to turn her around, since he was slightly annoyed that she didn’t look at him at all when she said all that to him before.
“Hm..?” Kotoko finally did look back at him in the face. It looked mostly like her usual casual expression, but it was just kind of off… She had a clear enough blush that reached even her ears, and she looked like she really wanted to look at anything but him.
“Y-You can’t just fuck off like that after saying all… that!” Fuuta was starting to lose it more too, staring at Kotoko’s face didn’t help at all for him.
“I… I thought you would’ve wanted some time to think it through first before answering me,” She replied, even her voice was just as off as her expression was. Who would’ve thought she would be like this ever..?
“Well, screw that, I already know my damn answer!” He knew for a while.
“And what is it?” She asked expectantly.
“I-...” She really wanted him to say it, didn’t she? How was he supposed to say this..? It’s not like he knew how dumb love confessions were supposed to go other than the really cliche ways.
Fuuta kept opening and closing his mouth, trying to get words out. It really was only fair that since she said her feelings aloud, he should do the same for her. They felt the same way after all, there is absolutely no reason for him not to just admit it.
‘Fuck.. I just… I like her… so much.. It’s stupid how much I want her... Jesus, how is that so damn hard to say!?’ And it was so much easier to just endlessly think about it in his own head.
“I like you too…” He finally managed to say, although it was barely above a whisper.
“Fuuta..?”
“I said I like you too! There! Are you happy now?” He said that second time a little more harsher, but he’s just been really losing control of his composure. Somehow he’s even more aware now of how red his face looked.
“...!” Kotoko’s eyes slightly widened, her own blush spreading a bit more on her face. She then looked away from Fuuta’s face again, mainly staring at the ground but her cheeks and ears make it clear how she’s feeling.
“Wh-.. You’re getting all embarrassed when you’re the one who wanted me to say it!”
“I know… I’m really happy to hear that though,” She lifted her head up a little, and so the little smile she had was actually more visible to Fuuta now.
“Uh- Well… Yeah..” He finally let go of her wrist and stepped back a bit. “Are you gonna go now?”
“Yes, I’ll be heading back now..”
“Alright…” Fuuta awkwardly replied. What even really happens after… Well, confessing your feelings and it’s mutual? Are they just kind of a thing now?? “Hey uh.. Text me, about where we’re going next time, or something…”
Kotoko chuckled a little, “So, I get to decide our first official date?”
“Y-Yeah, whatever, we went to the arcade today so…”
“Mhm, okay. I’ll be sure to decide then. Bye,” Kotoko had a warm smile when she finally parted ways with him.
Fuuta nodded, and waved her goodbye before he headed back up the stairs to the walkways to the apartment. And… Well, that really happened huh…
A lot of weird, unexpected things happened in the past months or so really. This certainly added onto that, but it really wasn’t too bad. He really didn’t mind if this really became part of his new life for a while. It certainly was an interesting change. Kotoko was a change he didn’t mind.
Maybe he wouldn’t even mind if they just went to the arcade again, he actually enjoyed it when it was with Kotoko anyway.
