Work Text:
Hannah England was a responsible witch of Luna Nova, and being a responsible witch she had a strict schedule. She always woke up early before dawn, had breakfast with her closest friend, Barbara, and readied the materials she needed for the day. Listen to the lecture, have lunch, hang out with Barbara and Diana, retreat to their dorms for the day, do whatever homework and assignments she had and with what time she had left spend it with her friends.
She followed it as if it was a guide to being the perfect witch.
However, the same could not be said for the witch banging on her door late at night.
"Hannah! Hannah! Please, open the door! It's me! Akko! Please! I need your help!" The beckoning of her name would not stop. She has been trying to ignore Akko for all of ten minutes already.
But alas, she would often forget how persistent she was. Of course it would be the reckless witch who would block her from enjoying the most relaxing part of her schedule, only second to having tea with Barbara and Diana.
To say her annoyance was reaching an all time high was putting it lightly.
"Oh please oh please oh please oh please, Hannah? Just this once?"
Sending a long sigh into the night, "…What do you want, Akko?" all groggy and still fresh from sleeping, asking the girl why she was banging on her door at nine in the night just a second ago.
Akko just stood there, looking at Hannah, before remembering what she came here for and, inhaling deeply, "Okay, so tomorrow's like our finals right? And you know how horrible I am at Magic Numerology. So I thought that I could ask Lotte for some help but she said she couldn't because Barbara was coming over, and I couldn't ask Barbara because she'd be busy too! Then I asked Sucy if she could teach me the basics, but she said that I had to drink another one of her potions first and I didn't want to get sick or worse before the day of finals, and then…" Exhaling and inhaling again, continuing her story.
She blabbed about how she had the entire day but instead of studying she practiced riding her broom and spent the rest of the day hanging out with her friends. No help from Professor Ursula either since she had errands to run out of school for the night.
And that's where Hannah comes in, supposedly. She wasn't really listening to Akko and her story, she may have dozed off a few times.
She was the only one in the Blue Team's dorm at the moment, this is true. Diana was doing her nightly patrol and Barbara was having a sleepover with Lotte, reading more Nightfall, which made Sucy leave and sleep with the Green Team.
Sure, she should just decline her request and go back to sleep, but that would only be met with more loud pleas. If teaching her means she can go back to her bed then so be it.
"And then I ran up here as fast as I can- You know, your guys' room is so high up. What’s up with that?" Oh, by The Nines.
"Okay, okay, Akko. I’ll do it, just, will you tone it down?" Akko saluted with a bright smile on her face. It seems she will have to adjust her schedule for tonight.
Seeing as the library isn’t available at this time of the night, she opened the door wider, motioning for Akko to enter. Akko smiled and entered with double the energy she had in her before closing the door behind her.
Letting Akko sit at the couch she goes to the wardrobe and changes into something comfortable for what she expects a long night of tutoring, Akko being her tutee and all. She heads back to where she left Akko, before grabbing some materials and quickly fixing her hair, her signature yellow ribbon tied perfectly.
Reaching the main room, she sees the brunette witch playing with the tea set on the table and spewing out magical spells as if she were Shiny Chariot performing a magic show in front of a large crowd.
“Thank you! Thank you! But have you seen a herd of Glowing Zebras come spilling out of a teacup? I bet you haven’t! Haha!”
This is the witch who saved the world...
Ignoring the childish, albeit amusing, display happening in front of her, Hannah walks over to the couch and places a book of Akko’s worst subject and a notebook for her to write on.
Squealing from surprise, Akko almost dropped the little teacups she was playing with. Her gaze set on Hannah and was
“So, Akko. What part of Magic Numerology are you particularly having troubles with?” She yawned after saying this, but shook the sleep away so she can have the energy to teach the japanese witch.
Akko looked at Hannah for a second, then shifted her gaze somewhere in the room, then looked back at her again and smiled sheepishly. Why did she even bother to ask?
“Right. Well, how about we start with the basics then?” The other witch leaned in, eager to listen closely to her and readied the pen and notebook to take notes.
Hannah explained everything Akko needed to know in a way the girl could understand and can comprehend easily, while the brunette on her part wrote everything down and raised a hand every time to ask a question when she didn’t fully understand.
Though, Hannah couldn’t help but notice about Akko and how she was behaving.
Throughout the session, the brunette didn’t behave unruly nor was she easily distracted as she would be whenever she listens to a professor’s lecture. Except for Professor Ursula of course. So why was she so intent on listening to everything Hannah had to say? She didn’t intimidate her, did she? She’s been trying her best to be friendly to her all night.
And since she had woken up Hannah this late, the girl in question would occasionally fall asleep, sometimes falling back on the couch or on Akko’s shoulder. Hannah swore she heard something close to a mouse squeaking. Akko would wake her up everytime she would do this, and everytime the sleeping beauty would flush red and snap at Akko. She grew even more embarrassed when she heard Akko whisper ‘cute’. Another strange Akko behavior.
They would continue the study session for the next hour, ending when Akko had finished answering the quizzes Hannah prepared for her. Hannah checked Akko's answers and was surprised she only got three answers wrong, which was good, meaning that Akko is improving. Needless to say, Hannah was impressed. Guess Atsuko Kagari does have some surprises up her sleeve.
Grabbing the teapot and pouring herself a cup, she turns her head to Akko and smiles. "Only three mistakes in the third quiz, you're improving Akko." Well, in Akko Kagari standards the score is satisfactory enough.
“And that does it,” A yawn escapes her lips, finally done with scoring her quizzes. “You probably won’t get a high grade, but I’m pretty sure you’ll pass at least.”
“Yay! Yatta!” Akko exclaimed, her native tongue slipping. What did that mean anyway? “I feel like I can take on the test with my eyes closed. And it's all thanks to you Hannah! You’re the best!” She jumps up from the couch and stretches her hands out and gives her hero an embrace of gratitude.
At first she struggles, trying to get Akko to let go, but after a few seconds of resistance gives in and returns the hug. Reaching her arms around Akko, she pats her back and congratulates her. They let go and Hannah sits down on the couch, pours herself a cup of tea. She takes a sip but stops short when noticing Akko still standing and looking at her with a smile.
“Uh, why are you still here?” She wondered if that sounded rude, she was trying to be friendly to Akko after all. “We’re done now Akko, you need to go back before curfew and I need to go back to sleep.” A yawn escaped her once more.
“Oh! Well, actually, I was thinking,” Akko thinking? This spells trouble. “But, I was wondering if you would teach me more? I know I’m probably ready for the test tomorrow but it can’t hurt to be advanced, right?” The girl smiled sweetly at Hannah, looking somewhat expectantly at her, for some reason.
She had a point, and there’s no harm in helping out a friend more. Besides, her and Akko don’t hang out much, even though they’re in the same circle of friends they never had the chance to have a one on one together. She also had a feeling that the girl wanted to hang out with her previous times, if Akko sneaking glances at her were any evidence.
“Well, I don’t mind, but-”
“Great! Now that we’re done with the basics, is the next lesson something that I can handle? I promise to pass with flying colors, Hannah!” Cutting Hannah off before having a chance to say her mind, Akko plopped down onto the couch. She was very close to Hannah, almost invading her personal space, but she didn’t mind it either. This is how close friends are, right?
They continued to study until their eyes ran tired and sleep claimed them.
Light shone on her face, causing Hannah to wake up. She looked at the window and saw that the sun was rising. Keeping to her schedule, she tried to stand up and stretch her arms but something soft restrained her from doing so. Looking down, she saw brown hair, with red crimson eyes and a sweet smile. Specifically, one Akko Kagari, her arms wrapped around Hannah lying on top of her.
Now knowing the position she is in, her face reddened and her head filled with confusion as to how things from last night came to this.
“Oh? You’re finally awake Hannah.” Finding the source of the voice, she found Diana Cavendish sitting on the chair, sipping some of her morning tea. “I take it you had a wonderful rest.”
Face flushed in red, she spluttered sounds of excuses, explaining to her roommate why she and Akko were like this. Even though she had no idea how this all came about.
The Cavendish stood up from her chair and set her cup down. “Don’t worry, I’m the only one who knows. Barbara is still in Akko’s room with Lotte.” She reassured Hannah. She then walked towards the door and went out.
“Classes will start soon, be sure to make it to you two. Good luck, Hannah.” A rare amused smirk appeared on Diana’s face, one that Hannah has never seen on her before.
A humming came down on her, the sleeping brunette comfortable using Hannah as a literal body pillow. Hannah only had a few minutes before getting ready for class, same as Akko. But looking at the peaceful face on Akko it felt wrong to just wake her up.
Guess she’ll have to readjust her schedule once again.
