His blond hair blew in the wind. The Seto platoon was finally given some downtime. Kagero was leaning against a piece of railing, watching traffic go past him.
"Kagero? This is what you do in your free time?" Wataru asked as he walked up behind him.
Kagero raised an eyebrow as he looked at the operator. A smile appeared on the blond’s face.
"It's called people watching."
"Ah!" Wataru said, looking out at the people passing by.
"It's different seeing you outside of head- quarters Wataru."
All the smaller male did was shrug. Seto had made sure that everyone was taking time for themselves. And that included him. He didn't exactly want to.
"I just was on my way to my apartment," Wataru said as he stepped closer to the railing. "I have some Others I want to study."
"You should hang out with me today." Kagero suggested.
The shorter of the two raised a dark eyebrow. In a way what Kagero had suggested sounded good. But his inner self wanted to stay at home and study Others.
Wataru let a sigh before saying," Yeah. I'll hang out with you."
Kagero grinned from ear to ear before grabbing the other's hand. A shocked look appeared on his face when he was drug off into a crowd. It wasn't what either of them had planned for their day.
'As long as he's happy,' Wataru thought to himself.
Eventually, the pair found themselves at Musobi.
"I haven't been here yet," Wataru said as they found a table to sit at.
"Oh really?" Kagero asked. "They have pretty good food here."
After they made their orders, the two men sat in a comfortable silence. This was the first time that both hung out together.
"Are you interested in any of the girls in the platoon?" Kagero asked, breaking the silence.
"No. None of them are really my type." Kagero raised an eyebrow.
He wasn't prepared for that type of response.
"Then what is your type?"
A nice red tint filled Wataru's cheeks. He couldn't let the other male know that no girl was his type. But he couldn't ignore the question:
"Um, you're like the person who is my type," Wataru finally managed to get out.
Kagero's eyes blinked. The red tint still filled Wataru's cheeks. An awkward silence settled between the two guys.
It wasn't until they got their food before the smaller of the two apologized.
"It just came out. I swear Kagero," Wataru said in a quiet voice.
"I take it you don't like girls?" Kagero asked after swallowing a mouth of food.
Wataru shook his head. He knew he shouldn't have told Kagero, but the question was out there on the table already.
"That's fine! I can help you out with someone!" Kagero said cheerfully.
Blue eyes blinked in surprise at the overly cheerful blond. He seemed a little too excited for the challenge. There weren't a lot of people like him. Especially in the OSF.
As the meal waned on, Kagero chatted up a storm as usual. The red tint in Wataru's cheeks had faded long before the pair got up from the meal.
Kagero followed the operator back to his small room at the OSF headquarters. The two of them lingered just outside the door.
"You didn't have to pay Kagero."
"I'm the one who invited you. It was the least I could do."
A few moments passed by before Wataru thought of a form of pay back. In a swift moment, the smaller of the two grabbed the others shirt. Pulling Kagero closer to him, their lips locked together. Brown eyes widened until their lips separated.
In a flash of movement, the smaller of the two ran into his room, leaving the blond in the hallway.
It took a couple days for their lives to cross paths again. Wataru had stayed cooped up in his room. Not even Seto could coerce him out.
When the two guys did meet, it was uncomfortable for the two of them. The weight at what Wataru had done weighed on him.
"We haven't seen you in a couple days," Kagero said to break the ice.
"I was doing research on Others," Wataru replied with a yawn.
A look of concern appeared on the older male's face. It wasn't like Wataru to stay up like that just researching. Especially when the only operator for the platoon was supposed to be helping on missions.
"It's about the other day, right? "Kagero asked, raising an eyebrow. "I'm not mad at you. In fact, I understand."
"Y-You're not mad at me?" Wataru asked, finally looking up at the blond.
All Kagero could do was nod. A small smile appeared on Wataru's face.
"However, we will have to keep this secret." Kagero said in a hushed tone.
In the back of the shorter male's mind, he knew that this was a possibility. Being in any kind of relationship was frowned upon in the OSF. Even if the two were in a straight passing one at that.
"Of course," Wataru said in the same of tone.
In the coming days, weeks, and months the two men fell into a comfortable rhythm. Kagero would nine times out of ten would come straight back to headquarters. All so he could find time with Wataru. As far as the two of them knew, no one else knew about them.
