Work Text:

Osamu and Akaashi have this some kind of ritual on every last Friday of the month they would go on a new type of date. This came up because Keiji once said they’ve been too vanilla since their fifth anniversary.

So here they are, on the last Friday evening of September, sitting on the priciest chair for the city orchestra for its best acoustic quality (they don't even know that acoustic has a quality degree. When they bought the ticket Keiji just got his paycheck and feeling fancy so they just pick the most expensive ones), trying to bring back their youthful spark. They don’t even know what piece the orchestra would play. They don’t even know any piece there is.

Osamu is always the type who enjoys music which played on the radio. He doesn’t even know the title of the track nor the singer of the song. He’s just a casual listener who bopped his head when the music has a thick bass and drums rhythm. Whilst Keiji… with all due respect, is completely tone-deaf. He didn’t know it until once on their Friday date, they went to karaoke. And let’s just say God really blessed Osamu with a great level of endurance.

They dressed themselves very nicely that Osamu doesn’t think he needs to imagine how Keiji would look like when he walks down the aisle anymore. Keiji is stunning in his black suit, Osamu couldn’t stop complimenting. Keiji didn’t compliment Osamu as much. But for Osamu, Keiji’s blush is more than enough to know that Atsumu really knows what ‘dress to impress’ means.

The lightings started to get dimmed, the other audience started to calm down, the conductor and a man with some kind of clarinet (it was oboe) finally arrived and bowed to the room.

Not sure if it’s the rush of this noon costumers or the beautiful music but all Osamu knows is the play has ended and everyone is giving the orchestra a standing ovation and with his instinct, Osamu quickly bring himself together to stand and clap his hands.

“It was actually not bad, I enjoyed it very much. The soloist was very cool! Moreover on that long high note that goes,” Keiji tries to mimic the piece. He tries hard. Osamu knows. But even if Osamu missed the part (he did), he knows it didn’t go like how Keiji sounds at all.

“Yeah.. No Keiji. No, it didn’t sound like that at all. Nice try though” Osamu shushes Keiji. Keiji knows he can’t sing. Keiji knows that Osamu is not a fan of his singing. But Keiji can’t help himself sometimes. Keiji enjoys music as much as most people do. He even dance to it sometimes when he's alone. No one ever say a tone-deaf couldn't enjot music.

“Hey! You don’t have the right to say that! You’re asleep through the play”

“Oh? you knew?”

“I'm the one who closed your mouth from snoring. The whole theatre was looking at us!”

“Oops… sorry” Osamu bites his tongue, scratches his undercut, smiling bashfully.

Keiji sigh, “So I guess orchestra date is a no-no for the future?”

“No. I think this is the best one so far. I enjoyed today very much”

Keiji steals a glance at Osamu’s eyes to see whether he’s joking or not. Turns out Osamu really is looking very pleased tonight.

“You… enjoyed your sleep?” Keiji’s trying to making the sense out of his boyfriend's statement.

“I enjoyed my dream just then. Although I’m not sure it’s because of the music or just coincidence”

“You had a dream?” Osamu nodded.

“You and I getting married. It was beautiful. Everything was there you were wearing this suit and I wear white. It’s kinda surprising how it turns out I’m the one who gotta walk down the aisle and you were there waiting for me on the altar”

Keiji doesn’t realize since when his hand was covering his mouth and his lower lid damming tears. “Oh… Osamu…”

“Yeah… we wear each other a ring, kissed and all. Although I don’t really remember our vows. But I’m sure it’s beautiful since I remember Atsumu bawling and Suna, the Suna Rintaro, also had glassy eyes. But right after we were about to leave the church I wake up from all the applause”

Keiji didn’t say a word and Osamu doesn’t seem to be waiting for any response either. He just takes a deep breath and lets it out fast. “And that makes me realize,” Osamu took one of Keiji’s hand, “I want that to not be just a dream,” Osamu look up to find Keiji still holding his tears. His face is already all red, “I want it to happen in my real life. With you.”

Osamu took Keiji’s other hand and brought them up to his chest, he look deeply into Keiji’s grayish-green eyes. “I don’t have diamond ring with me right now, but I promise I’ll give you anything you want in life. Name it a house, a car, a skyscraper, anything. I’ll work my ass off for you. And for that I want you to be there with me all the way. As my partner. For life.”

Keiji’s tear dropped from his trembling body. Osamu couldn’t really tell it since he himself is actually shaking like he’s high from caffeine.

“So, Akaashi Keiji, will you marry me?”

His body might be trembling. His hands might be sweaty and stiff in Osamu’s chest. His legs might lose their function in a couple seconds. But his head didn’t fail to nod. Neither did his tongue to say “Yes”.

Notes:

I always thought osaaka is the type who don’t have a well-prepared-romantic proposal. They’re the type who just do it when it feels right. It’s not just a spur of the moment thing. They’ve always thought everything through in an appropriate amount of time, it’s just the way they execute it isn’t the most grandiose thing you’ll see. They’re very country-vibe (but lives in a big city) domestic, love tranquility, and their motto is to just live the moment. In conclusion: they’re a boring old couple type that we envy.
