Chapter Text
Estranged mechanical men of all shapes and sizes began to file through the streets. Each red machine started a blockade across roads. Shooting into homes, breaking down doors. Mobians of all kinds ran for their lives, as others tried to help those who fell behind. Brave persons stood up against the onslaught of robots. Even with whatever equipment they could find, they were little to no match to these robots.
How hard was it to have a single day to relax? Instead, many had to watch their friends and family run from their homes. Mobians who had lovely lives lost their place of comfort! No where was safe now… A group of citizens were trapped in the square. Children cried and begged for their parents to save them. While others feared for their lives and coward away from the sight.
A group of so-called ‘Badnicks’ watched the cowering group of civilians. Forming a tight semi circle around them, blasters at the ready. But, just as each weapon began to warm up. A flash of neon light managed to stun the bots for long enough to be taken care of. An exhausted looking Red Panda swung an old rusty pipe. Panting softly, he spoke.
“Get out of here!! Before more, come along! Hurry! I saw our malicha members on the south edge of town. They’re piling survivors into vehicles to get them to a safe place. Now hurry!” The neon male yelled. The rust beaten pipe held tightly in his grasp. Panting, the man dashed forwards again. Fear in his eyes, and justice gripping his mind.
Without another thought, the man swung the pipe. Wide eyed as the robotic machine neatly crumbled at the hit. At least, in his mind. Really, the metal pipe bounced off the bot’s armored torso. Barely even leaving a dent within it.
“Great job techno… and you’d think all those dance lessons would help with a fight.” The panda huffed in annoyance. Yelping out as the aforementioned bot took a shot at the male. Quickly, he jumped back away from the machine landing sloppily a few feet away. Still in range of its wrist mounted blasters.
“Damn it- Where the hell is the resistance when you need them!!” The black bellied panda cursed to himself. Planting a foot behind him as he watched the creations close in.. He was a cornered kid, that's for sure. Course all that was on his mind... He was done for. Techno watched fearfully as they revved up their guns for one more shot.
Just as the male began to reconcile within his thoughts, a rumble erupted from the ground. His green eyes darted towards the sound. Not just him, but the metallica soldiers looked to the sounds themselves. The group was stunned in curiosity and aw, before they could do anything about it, a large yellow and tan drill raged from the ground. Shooting into the sky, only to slowly tip over and land atop the asulting bots. After a few moments the drill suddenly burst into a bright white. Masking a small wolf as they returned back to normal. Holding a miniature drill in hand, grinning towards a small yellow triangle-like creature floating before them with three little tendrils attached at the bottom. Glowing a familiar Yellow color. The creature was nothing like anything from their world.
The man stared towards the two, wide eyed. It had only been a mere month since the beginning of this whole war. Town after town was being destroyed by the onslaughts of Badniks. This boy was witness to some, but now.. The fight came knocking on his door, at his door. The whole town was all screwed if they didn’t do something. But this wolf came from nowhere to save the day! Ripping through the ground as a large drill to protect them all. Techno could only watch in shock as the wolf looked at him, before they finally spoke.
“Hey, resistance is on the way. They should arrive somewhere to the West from here. We were able to get your town’s transmission. Just hold up until then!” The deep royal blue wolf stated, before rushing off. The little alien floated along happily, chirping and clicking as it continued on it’s way.
Shaking his head, Techno quickly broke his stare. The resistance is coming, they were going to be saved! But at what cost? Looking around, the once beautiful homes standing row by row, now all that stood were shambles. Debris of a past life. His town was destroyed. Countless people lost to the storm of bots. Once again, the boy shook his head, dashin towards the east side of town. Where .. He couldn’t think of that right now.. He needed to meet the resistance, and help as many as he could along the way. ‘Maybe the blue blur would accompany them!!’ The boy grinned to himself. Imagining a blue streak stretching across the city.
As the boy ran, he ensured the Mobians that help was on the way. Directing them towards the safe haven south of town. Telling them the way out. Without another word, he would run off once more. Inching closer to the west of town, it was clear this was where the onslaught started. Fire blazed through the trees and homes. Storefronts were torn apart. Rubble scattered across the ground. Just… how long have they been fighting? Why were they even fighting at this point! They were losing the battle here. There was no way they could succeed now. Techno frowned at the sight of the square.. His ears slowly pinned back against his head, his tail dropping to the ground..
“Heyy!!” A yell broke him from his thoughts once more.
Quickly, the male ripped his gaze from the destroyed square, and to the entrance of the down. Standing at the entrance was a single light gray Hedgehog. A soft cyan aura slowly dissipated from their body. “Back up is here! Where do you need it!” Behind them was a large group of resistance members, as well as a shuttle flying overhead in the distance.
Techno stared in awe of them all, a grin pulled at his lips as he spoke. “Send the shuttle south- we need to get those gathering there out of here. But there are still people in the town!” Without even a second’s waste, the silver hedgehog hurriedly reported it back to the army behind them. The shuttle quickly turned towards the south, while the groups of resistance members awaited more orders.
“Alright, you have home turf credits, tell us where we need to go.” The hedgehog had ordered, the same soft cyan aura encircled him once more, lifting the male off the ground.
Receiving a nod from the panda across from him, he quickly began ordering the resistance towards the town. Extending his arm toward the west and north. His words worried as he explained the areas of devastation. He was sure many had yet to escape the hordes of bots that encapsulated the town. Assuring that there were still Mobians out there in need of their help. Watching as they all scurried away. Sighing softly to himself.
The hedgehog on the other hand… seemed to weaver, watching the panda take a moment to breathe.. staring at the melted snow, the now puddles surrounded the fiery hellscape . It… was heartbreaking to say the least.. maybe after this whole thing- the hedgehog shook his head. Diminishing the thought right before he could finish. Quickly raising himself off the ground, and out towards the north to assist survivors.
Just a couple hours had passed after the resistance arrived. Now more than ever time mattered. More and more Badniks continued to flood the streets. The resistance was working to hurry the survivors from their homes within the colden valley town. Techno leap from roof to roof. Searching in alleys, through open windows. Taking out any robotic creation that may have come into view before him. Time was running out, the resistance was getting ready to leave the town. With or without him and others who still resided in the town. He couldn’t let them go. He couldn’t let them stay in danger any longer than they should!! But… he had no choice.. He needed to retreat. Now. He had no choice. With a broken heart, the male red panda made his way back to the south.
As the male approached the shouts of orders and small explosions. He could hear the sound of metal clattering to the cobble streets. Dark grey smoke filled the sky as another blast came from the clearing not too far away. The clock was ticking. Quickly, the male ran towards the fight. Bounding over an unsuspecting bot as a sudden blue streak shot through it. The red panda looked around quickly as he landed on his side with a grunt. The sudden explosion of the defeated robot had thrown off his original trajectory.
With wide green eyes he searched for the familiar legend. Expecting to see a smug bright azure hedgehog. But… nothing. No one but a small cyan alien wisped out of view. The male watched the creature for a moment, until a sudden yell came his way.
“MOVE KID!” Yelled a girl, a sheep like Mobian warned.
Just as he jumped to his feet and had moved, a blast came past. Scorching the ground where he once stood. The boy let out a soft breath seeing the mark, having just nearly escaped death. Quickly, he hurried away towards the barricade. Shaking the shock from his face.
“The other villagers, are they here-? Did you guys manage to find them all?” The male asked, slowing to a stop before the sheep like woman. Holding tightly to a rocket looking weapon. Eyes narrowed towards the shuttle. Looking for familiar faces.
“We believe so. But we need to go now, get onto the shuttle.” The sheep hissed, pointing towards the ship before them. “We’re taking off in just seconds. Hurry!” The woman edged him along.
Techno, taking the hint. Dashed into the transport shuttle, glancing back as the bots began to overwhelm the checkpoint. Resistance members began to fall back, before ultimately retreating to the safety of the plane.. The boy could watch his city from the skies as the bay door slowly closed. He could watch as it disappeared from view, destroyed from an ongoing battle. He… Techno could feel his heart shatter at the sight. Himself, and everyone in that shuttle… they’d lost their home. Slowly, defeatedly… he looked away, scrunching his eyes closed, ears pinned down.. His once glad demeanor broke down to nothing but a hollow shell..
“It’s gone.. all of it..” he muttered, his hands just standing solemnly at his waist. Curling into tight fists. His long fluffed black and honeydew ringed tail laid gingerly across his boots.
Suddenly the male slammed his fist into the metal wall of the plane. Snapping to the sheep resistance member. “We’re the fuck was sonic! He could’ve gotten our town back!” The black bellied panda barked at the woman. Turning to face her. “He would’ve cleared out all those Badniks! He could’ve saved us from having to move!” Techno roared, his voice pained, furious flame burning in his eyes.
The woman stayed silent. Averting her gaze to the ground… As if suddenly a small pebble was just the most interesting thing in the world to her.
“Answer me damn it!! Where the hell was he!!??” He snapped once again. Watching as the Mobian flinched beneath his gaze.
“He’s dead.” The woman sighed softly, looking back up to him. “He’s been gone.. Dr. Eggman.. he killed Sonic..”
Techno’s ears twitched. His trembling limbs finally had stilled… “No… No he can’t be dead.” The boy protested. “Sonic The Hedgehog cannot be killed!” He snapped, shaking his head, disbelief wracking his mind.
No way. No way could that bastard kill the fastest thing alive! Sonic’s always beaten the damn fat man. He’d never failed before! Sure things had gotten hairy, but he always won in the end.. But… Techno shook his head again, frowning to himself…
“I’m sorry- but he’s gone, kid. For now.. you and the town folk can stay with the resistance. Chaos knows we need more members-
Suddenly the boy looked up. “I’ll join. I want to help.” He snapped. Giving the woman little time to react. “I want to join the resistance!”
“No. Kid, that's a death wish.” The sheep snapped to the boy, who only shook his head softly.
“And that means what exactly?” Techno inquired, stepping closer to the woman. “Just because I’m young. I can’t fight? How old is sonic? How old is Tails? Let me guess! 16 and 8 .” The male paced slowly around the sheep-like-woman. Placing a hand to his chin, his elbow resting on a raised arm. Looking off to far away lands, as he quietly thought about his next statement.
“So that should mean that the 2 of them shouldn’t be fighting themselves!” He finally returned his emerald gaze back to the woman. His pupils retracted to nothing but slits as he continued. Stopping in his tracks before the woman.
“So what? If they can’t fight then you adults should? Last I checked, you assholes couldn’t do anything when Dr. Eggman first attacked, you all did nothing at all! You needed a young fox and a Hedgehog to save your asses! So yea. I’m joining the resistance, and you can’t stop me.” He snapped harshly, before returning to his earlier spot.
The resistance member watched the small panda in disbelief… Even he himself couldn’t believe he just barked at someone like that. Fidgeting with his fingerless gloves, the panda leaned his back against the cold metallic wall. Just watching the Mobians of WinterBurg huddle around, a few stray tears escaping the children’s eyes. While the adults turned to look towards the panda with disapproving eyes. The boy avoided their stares, instead, looking to the backs of his gloves. A green circle contained a black smile atop it. There was another on the back of his hands, and the back of his head, offset over a black circle. But overall, it was a bad feeling. Watching a wide smile like that in this situation.. It was almost mocking him..
Techno scoffed at himself, slowly leaning back against the cold wall. He slipped down to rest on the floor. Pulling his knees tight to his chest, he rested his forehead to his arms. Just wanting this nightmare to be over..
