Makeup

Summary:

Sayaka does Polaris’ makeup.

Work Text:

Polaris hasn’t shown up to class for the last two days. While the only ones who saw what happened first-hand were Makoto, Chihiro, Toko, and Polaris herself everyone, being the teenagers they were, gossiped about the event to get a vague understanding of what happened.

Polaris had come out to Toko, as she had done with the rest of the class, as a trans girl. Toko then proceeded to “go insane” and punch Polaris in the face. While many details were exaggerated, the truth of the matter was that Polaris wound up with a bruised nose and simply did not want to be seen like that, so she stayed in her dorm while Makoto brought her the days’ schoolwork.

While everyone was worried about Polaris and wanted her to get better soon so they could see her again, Junko and Leon couldn’t care less, Junko snickering and Leon rolling his eyes every time Polaris was mentioned.

Sayaka approached Makoto during lunch as he was getting food for himself and his girlfriend.

   “Hi, Makoto.”

   “Oh, hi, Sayaka!” Makoto greeted.

   “How’s Polaris?”

“Oh, she’s doing okay. The bruise is going to take a week or two to clear up fully. There’s no swelling, so that’s great,” Makoto explained.

“I’m glad to hear she’s okay,” Sayaka smiled. “I hope what happened with Toko won’t bother her. Can I see her?”

“She won’t let that get to her. She never liked Toko anyway. I’ll text her and ask.” Makoto pulled out his phone and sent a text to Polaris.

To: 💖👑Polaris👑💖

hey is it ok if i bring sayaka w/ me? she wants to see u

Makoto continued getting food and talking with Sayaka for a few minutes before his phone dinged.

From: 💖👑Polaris👑💖

     Sure

“She said you can see her,” Makoto gathered the plates while Sayaka got her own. Sayaka went to go tell Mukuro that she’ll be spending lunch with Makoto and Polaris. Mukuro smiled softly with her and told her to come back with updates.

Makoto knocked on the door with his elbow, alerting Polaris of his arrival. The door lock clicked softly and the door opened just enough to let the two through, Polaris purposely hiding herself in case anyone were to walk by. When Makoto and Sayaka were inside Polaris quickly closed and locked the door.

There was a manga lying open and face-down on Polaris’ pillow, indicating she was reading before they came in. Sayaka smiled. She didn’t take Polaris as someone who read manga.

Sayaka took the desk as Makoto and Polaris sat on the bed. It was then that she got a good look at Polaris. The blond girl was sitting cross-legged on her bed wearing a large cream-colored sweater over a white button-up with loose-fitting blue jeans. Her hair was messy and Sayaka was happy to see the bow Celest had given Polaris tied in her hair, albeit a little sloppy and uneven. Aside from the purple-and-blue bruising around her nose, Polaris looked adorable and soft, starkly contrasting the cold, put-together, future CEO she normally looked like. Polaris looked like a normal teenager.

“You look cute today, Polaris,” Sayaka smiled. “I like your outfit.”

“Thank you,” Polaris hid her nose behind her hand. “You look nice today, as usual. Your makeup is very nice as well.”

   “Aw, thank you!”

For a few minutes there was only the sound of clinking utensils as the three of them ate their lunch. There was small conversation between Makoto and Polaris about the manga she was reading. She is a little over half way through and she’s ranting to Makoto about how her favorite character died.

She really is just a regular teenager, huh?

Sayaka felt bad for thinking that. Technically, none of them were “regular” teenagers, it was just strange, for lack of a better word, to see Polaris get along with someone so well. She realized just how good Makoto was for the taller girl. While Polaris was still a bit cold and stand-offish she had gotten significantly better at coming out of her shell after she started dating Makoto. Sayaka suddenly remembered why she was there.

“Y’know, Polaris, you can cover up those bruises with makeup.”

“I know that. I just don’t own makeup,” Polaris didn’t look up from her food.

   “You don’t?”

“No. It wasn’t appropriate for a man to wear makeup regularly. I was only allowed to wear makeup during a television appearance, and even then it was only light foundation and concealer.”

“Oh,” Sayaka kinda felt bad about Polaris opening up like that. “Well, I don’t mind letting you borrow some of mine! I can even teach you how to apply it if you want!”

Polaris looked at the girl with an eyebrow raised before going back to her food, attempting to hide the small smile. “I would like that, Maizono.”

The ending lunch bell rang. Makoto gathered the dishes and gave Polaris a goodbye forehead kiss before leaving the room. Sayaka stopped in the doorway.

   “After school in my dorm?”

Polaris nodded. Sayaka smiled before leaving the room.

Sayaka waited in her room for Polaris. The bell had rung only minutes ago, Sayaka apologetically telling Mukuro that she’ll be hanging out with Polaris for a bit but promised they would hang out right after. Mukuro understood and gave Sayaka a quick peck on the lips before heading to the dojo.

Sayaka hadn’t expected Polaris to come over right away, so she jolted slightly when she heard a knock on her door. Sayaka opened the door and Polaris quickly pushed herself inside, not trying to be rude, she just didn’t want anyone to see her in casual clothes with a bruised nose.

   “Afternoon, Maizono.”

“Hi, Polaris. You can sit on the bed, it’ll be easier that way.”

Polaris huffed like a disgruntled cat before sitting cross-legged on the bed, facing the desk. Sayaka’s desk had a vanity mirror on it surrounded by bottles and tubes of nail polish, lipstick, and eyeshadow in colors ranging from electric blue to dark black to an elegant dusty rose. Foundation, concealer, false eyelashes, mascara, eyeliner, and anything else you could imagine could also be seen.

“You are aware that the desks are used for homework, correct?” Polaris asked.

Sayaka chuckled as she pulled out a pallet of colored concealers, regular concealer, a sponge, and a brush from the drawer. “I know, but there was no space in the bathroom. I normally do my homework in the library.” Sayaka sat down across from Polaris on the bed, a pink headband in her hand.

“I’m going to have to touch you. Is that okay?” Sayaka knew the Golden Rule™️ of getting Polaris to not hate you. Don’t touch Togami Polaris. If you have to touch Togami Polaris, ask permission first and wait for consent.

Polaris nodded and took off her glasses, folding them and placing them on the nightstand. Sayaka pushed the headband on Polaris’ head to keep her hair out of her face. It’s a little longer than it was a few weeks ago, Sayaka hadn’t noticed until then.

“I’ll be gentle, okay?” Sayaka dabbed the brush into the yellow concealer, as the bruise was purplish. Polaris made a slight sour face as the brush made contact with her nose but quickly relaxed, her eyes closed.

Sayaka smiled as the worst parts of the bruise disappeared, the yellow powder counteracting the purple. When it was covered, Sayaka closed the pallet and shook the bottle of concealer before opening it and using the brush to trace the outline of Polaris’s nose. She closed the bottle and gently dabbed the sponge so the concealer can blend into her skin. Both of them were pretty pale, so the concealer wasn’t noticeable. She used a light setting spray so it wouldn’t come off easily when Polaris puts her glasses back on.

   “All done.”

“You are?” Polaris almost sounded disappointed. But Polaris remembered that Sayaka told her she would teach her how to cover bruises, not give her a full makeover.

Sayaka gave her a mirror. Without her glasses, Polaris couldn’t see clearly, but she could see that the bruising was gone.

Sayaka saw the other girl’s face fall. She looked sad.

   “Are you okay, Polaris?”

“I’m fine, don’t worry about it,” Polaris set the mirror down. “I appreciate your help, Maizono.”

“Can I do your makeup?” Sayaka blurted out. There was an awkward pause.

   “You did?”

“Nonono, like, makeup makeup,” Sayaka explained. “A full face. You said you’ve never worn makeup before. Is that something you want to try?”

Polaris paused a moment before answering. “I’ve been… curious about it.”

   “Is that a yes?”

“I won’t stop you. Just don’t do anything crazy.”

Sakaya practically jumped for joy when she rushed to her desk to pick out the perfect makeup for Polaris. She wanted something neutral but cute, so she gathered a pink, brown, and cream eyeshadow pallet, pink blush, a creamy pink lipstick with lipgloss, and false eyelashes. She picked up a pink-beige nail polish and she grabbed the foundation as well.

“Alright, here we go,” Sayaka dropped the stuff on her bed and got to work. Polaris didn’t really need foundation since her skin was perfect and clear but Sayaka thought it would make everything look more finished, so she applied a very light layer. She dabbed concealer under the eyes to brighten them up. She did the eyeshadow next, blending it perfectly.

“The eyelashes are going to feel weird, just trust me,” Sayaka applied the glue and waved the eyelash to dry it. She gently applied the lash, being careful not to accidentally glue in to Polaris’ already long eyelashes. She instructed Polaris to open her eyes while she used the lash curler. The same was done to the other eye.

Blush was applied under the eyes. It brought some color to Polaris’ face and gave her a doll-like appearance.

“Open your mouth for me,” Sayaka applied the pink lipstick to Polaris’ soft lips. Her lips were perfect, not too full but not too thin, very soft and clearly taken care of. The lipstick went on smoothly, a new tube, and Sayaka told Polaris to rub her lips together to make sure it was applied evenly. She did so and was given a napkin to kiss to get off any excess. A clear lipgloss was put on top, giving it a shiny plump-lipped finish.

Sayaka removed the headband and gave Polaris a mirror. Polaris ruffled her hair and put her glasses back on. She just about gasped at the reflection that looked back at her.

   Her reflection.

   She was looking at herself.

   This is me?

This wasn’t a young curious boy who was playing with his mother’s makeup. This was a young woman. A beautiful woman. A woman with icy blue eyes wrapped in thick, long lashes and with pretty pink lips that were made to be kissed. Polaris puckered her lips and looked at her face from any angle she could. This was what little Polaris always dreamed of being. A beautiful, successful woman with an adorable, dorky boyfriend and amazing friends who love and support her for who she is.

“Do you like it?” Sayaka broke the silence.

“I do. Very much. Thank you.”

Sayaka almost teared up seeing how happy Polaris looked. “Can I hug you?”

Polaris awkwardly stiffened up. “I-I’m not there yet.”

“Okay. Do you want your nails done?”

Knocking is heard 30 minutes later.

   “It’s open,” Sayaka calls.

Mukuro opens the door. She looks at Polaris, who looks back wide-eyed with her hands held out in front of her. Mukuro quickly looks over at Sayaka.

“Baaaabe, are you done yet?” Mukuro whined.

“Actually, yes,” Sayaka smiled and handed a makeup bag to Polaris. “Sorry I took so long. I decided to give Polaris a makeover.”

“You did a good job,” Mukuro leaned against the doorway, deciding to tease Polaris a bit. “She only looks slightly less hideous as she did before.”

   Polaris made a ‘tsk’ sound.

“She’s just teasing, Polaris. You look beautiful.”

“I know I’m beautiful,” Polaris grabbed the makeup bag and made her way to the door.

   “Bye, Polaris!”

Sayaka was watching a movie, Mukuro asleep on her shoulder, when she got a text from Makoto. The text contained two images. The first one was Polaris sitting cross-legged on the bed, makeup perfect, hair messy, looking absolutely stunning. The second image showed Makoto laying down on the bed, Polaris’ arms around him. Makoto was red-faced with multiple creamy-pink lipstick marks all over his face. The text itself read she fucking attacked me. Sayaka typed a quick lol and went back to her movie.

Polaris showed up to class the next day with a full face of makeup. She got many compliments but with Mondo protecting her no one dared to say anything negative.

   Life was good.
