Chapter Text

“What do you MEAN your driver's license got suspended!?!”

“I mean my license got suspended! I went over the speed limit one too many times. Thanks for that, by the way.” Adora responded, playfully nudging Catra with her elbow. “Why do  you need me to drive you somewhere anyways?”

“Ugh, you know as well as I do that half of those incidents were all you. Also, my ID needs to be renewed and, and the closest DMV is like 2 hours away.”

“Why not ask Bow or Glim-”

“I am NOT asking Sparkles for a ride, I’ll just text Bow.” She said, already pulling out her phone and opening her conversation with him.

“Alright, alright. I really think you should-” She started, before being cut off by a very annoyed Catra.

“GOD. DAMNIT. Bow needs to do something with his dads. Welp, guess I'm walking. See you in… 3 days or so.”

“Nope, not happening. Just ask Glimmer! I’m sure she’d be willing to drive you there.”

“Pfft, as if. She hates me as much as I hate her.”

“You know what, I’m calling in my favor. At least ask her.”

“Really, Adora? You’re calling in your ONE “can’t refuse” favor on this?”

“Yep, I care too much to let you try to walk there. Besides, I think you two have more in common than you might think!”

“UGH, fine. I’ll just call her. And we have nothing in common.” She once again pulled out her phone, dialing Glimmer’s number. The call nearly went to voicemail, before Glimmer picked up.

“What do YOU want, cat chow?” was the first thing she said, clearly annoyed.

“Wow, not even a hello, princess?” Catra replied, just as annoyed as Glimmer.

“Put it on speaker!” Adora whispered to Catra, who reluctantly complied before continuing.

“Before you say anything, just know I hate asking this. I need you to give me a ride to the DMV. My ID needs to be renewed, Adora lost her license, and Bow has to do something with his dads. I WOULD just walk, but SOMEBODY forced me to ask you.”

“Hi, Glimmer!!”

Glimmer hesitated for a second before saying something.

“Wait, am I on speaker? Ugh, never mind. I’m not gonna let you walk for like, a day, so fine, but I’m not happy about it either. I’ll come by in like an hour. Also, hey Adora!” She said, before hanging up.

“See? Told you she would say yes!” Adora said, as Catra put away her phone.

“Oh, shut up! I’m gonna go get ready. I need to take a shower.”

“Alright, go get ready for your date~.” She smugly replied, a smirk covering her face as she held her finger and thumb up to her face.

“Wh- WHAT!? This is NOT a date.” Catra spun around, a light blush covering her face. Adora broke out into laughter.

“Oh my god, that face was perfect!” She chuckled.

“I’m not talking to you anymore, shut up, never speak to me again.”  Catra turned around in a huff, leaving the room.

“Pffft, wait, no, don't leave!” she started, before bursting into laughter again.

55 minutes after the call, Glimmer was ready for the long ride with Catra, and was already on her way to Catra and Adora's apartment. She was decked out in her usual “Casual but not too casual” clothes, of a pair of jeans, a purple T-shirt, and a pink leather jacket. She had no idea why she wanted to look presentable for Catra, but she blamed it on not wanting to look like shit when she’s gonna be in the same car as someone for 2 hours. She pulled up to the apartment building, where Catra, wearing her usual jeans and denim jacket, was already waiting by the street with Adora.

“GET IN, LOSER!” She yelled at Catra after rolling down her window.

“Alright, alright, Jesus, sparkles.” She shot back, getting into the passenger seat. “Seeya, Adora.”

“See you two later! Enjoy your date!” she replied, the same expression covering her face as the last time.

“ADORA!?!” Glimmer yelled, a blush crossing her face just like it did for Catra. Adora once again burst out into laughter.

“Oh my GOD Adora you CANNOT make the same joke twice.”

“It’s JUST as funny the second time! Alright, alright, bye!” She said as she went back inside, still chuckling to herself.

“...The hell was that??” Glimmer looked away from the catgirl sitting next to her, trying not to show the blush covering her face.

“Just Adora being Adora. Don’t make this weirder than it already is, sparkles.”

“Ugh, whatever. let's just get this over with. Can’t wait until i don’t have to deal with you anymore.” Glimmer said, pulling into the street.

“Finally, something I can agree on.”

“Ugh, why do we have to listen to your garbage music?” Catra said, sneering at Glimmer. She reached for the radio, before having her hand slapped away.

“Because I'm the one driving. You wanna put on your music? Learn to drive.” She shot back, accidentally missing a turn.

“Good job, you missed somethin there, princess.” A mischievous smirk was now covering Catras face.

“Because YOU were distracting me!” Glimmers face devolved into a glare as she looked for a place to turn around.

“Only because your music sucks ass.”

Glimmer gave out a frustrated yell, before pulling over. They were currently on a smaller road outside of the town that was their destination, which didn’t seem to be getting much traffic, considering it was midday on a Saturday. Catra gave Glimmer a confused look as Glimmer got out of the car and shoved her face into her hands, dragging them downwards in frustration as she groaned.

“Hey, pretty sure some random road in the middle of nowhere wasn’t our destination, geniu-” Catra started as she followed suit, before being cut off by a pissed-off Glimmer.

“SHUT. UP. WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO MUCH??” Catra stepped back, having never seen Glimmer snap like this. She hesitated as she remembered her justification for her vitriol. She had never said it to glimmer herself, before, until now.

“You’re spoiled, you got everything you wanted from your mom, you never had to work a day in your life! You had everything handed to you, while i had to fucking claw my way out of an abusive home that never gave me anything! My own fucking mother didn’t even give me anything in her will!” Catra started, escalating in volume as the tirade went on. The venom in her voice was tangible, although, it didn’t seem to be aimed explicitly at Glimmer. Glimmer just stood there for a few seconds, taking in what Catra had said to her. She sighed, the anger in her fading away.

“You... you really don’t know what i have to deal with, huh?” She said, her voice now gentle instead of harsh.

“What?” Catra was legitimately shocked by the question. She was expecting to have another screaming match with her, but the fact that she was genuine confused her.

“You think my life is all peachy, but the truth is, it’s not. My parents were overprotective of me, I never really got to do much growing up. I never could go out often, i had a strict curfew, hell, i couldn’t even go visit my friends. Or rather, friend, for a while. I grew up without anyone, at least no one I could trust. They all wanted to talk to me because mom was a CEO, not because they liked me. I had nobody I could genuinely trust until I met Bow. And even then, I was constantly scared I’d lose him, that if he had other friends, he wouldn’t need me and would leave me all alone. I also had a lot of expectations pushed onto me. Everyone thought I was going to take over the company when my mom retires, and I was constantly bombarded with questions about it. How are you going to run the company? What plans do you have for the company's future? Shit like that. It’s tiring. I never even gave a shit about this stupid fucking company, but everyone’s acting like it's the only possible path i could take. Now, I'm not about to say I had to go through as much shit as you had to deal with. I didn’t. I’m so sorry you had to go through all that, nobody deserves to deal with someone like that. But my life has NOT been easy.”

Glimmer was unsure of what compelled her to spill her guts like this, but it felt nice to let it all out. Catra stood there with a stunned expression on her face as the gears started turning in her head, processing what she just heard.

“I…” Catra sighed. She shoved her hands in her pockets, leaning her back against the car to face away from Glimmer. “I didn’t have anyone else growing up, besides Adora. I was… I was scared to lose her too. Weaver wouldn’t let me do anything either.” She gave a slight chuckle. “I did a ton of shit she hated behind her back, though. Weaver threw all of her impossible expectations onto me, too. Nothing I ever did was enough for her.” She took in a deep breath, before letting it out, turning around to face Glimmer. Her face was covered in a surprised expression, but she was still listening. Catra took this as a cue to continue.

“I… I don't hate you, Glimmer. Yeah, you’re annoying, but I don't genuinely hate you.” After a second, Glimmer’s shocked expression morphed into a warm smile. Catra couldn’t help the slight smile that formed on her lips, which she tried to pass off as just a smirk. “Don’t let it go to your head, sparkles, that still doesn’t mean i like you.”

“Pffft, bullshit. I’m irresistible.” Glimmer said, mimicking the smirk, and walking around the car and leaning against it next to Catra, so they were both facing the road. Catra let out a lighthearted laugh.

“Oh, please, if you weren’t Adora’s friend, i would’ve punted you into orbit, by now, cream puff.” Glimmer let out a laugh this time, crossing her arms.

“As if, i could kick your ass any day of the week, cat chow.” Glimmer said as she stepped forward to stretch.

“Is that a challe-” Catra started, before seeing a car speeding and swerving down the highway, right towards Glimmer. She immediately ran forward to tackle Glimmer to the side, out of the way.

“ASSHOLE!” Catra yelled over her shoulder, before turning back to the woman under her. “You good, gli…” She was immediately silenced by the look on Glimmer’s face. She looked almost awestruck. Catra suddenly realized not only were their faces really close together, but that she was also really pretty. Both of them blushed.

“Y-Yeah, I’m good.” Glimmer said as she had the exact same realization as Catra. Glimmer had no idea why, but a part of her really, really wanted to try something.

Slowly, Glimmer used her elbows to push herself up. Almost immediately, Catra slammed her lips into Glimmers, followed by Glimmer kissing her back. Glimmer wrapped her arms around Catra’s shoulders, as Catra placed her hands on Glimmer’s waist. After what felt like hours, they reluctantly split apart to catch their breath, before their lips connected again and again. Finally, they broke apart, panting.

“And you said you didn’t like me.” Glimmer said after they both caught their breath.

“Oh shut up.”

“I’ll take your lack of denying it as a yes.”

“Fine, fine, you got me, sparkles, i like you.” Catra admitted, flicking glimmer’s nose.

“Wow, didn’t expect you to be so soft, cat chow.”

“Oh, don’t push your luck.”

They both started laughing as they got up, before simply smiling at each other. Catra’s expression soon changed to a sad one, causing Glimmer’s once happy expression to become one of worry.

“Hey, uh, i understand if you don’t wanna take this any further than what just happe-: Catra started, being interrupted by Glimmer giving her a quick, gentle kiss.

“I do. O-only if you want to, of course, thou-” Returning the favor, Catra gave Glimmer a quick kiss too.

“I do, princess.”

They both just looked at each other with warm smiles, before Glimmer suddenly realized something as she checked the time.

“WE FORGOT ABOUT YOUR ID!!!”
