Work Text:

They had been texting all day, nothing unusual for the two boyfriends, although the older one said something that made Shinso stop dead in his tracks.
His boyfriend didn’t know when his own birthday was. They had started talking about it since Shinso’s birthday was coming up, something his dads had big plans for.
Shiggy off-handedly mentioned how he never celebrated his birthday, let alone actually know when it was. Something Shinso couldn’t even imagine.
Something he needed to change.

Shinso really was lucky Hizashi was down for almost anything. Baking a cake in less than an hour for the boyfriend Hizashi had never even met was something Shinso was sure his other father would have never even allowed had he known about it. Luckily, Shouta wasn’t home and the blonde had absolutely no problems with it.
As the cake was shoved into the oven, another thing hit Shinso. He’d need a present, but what could you give a man like Shiggy? Someone who seemed so minimalistic, able to survive on pure nothingness.
Normally, Shinso would have some outrageous idea, something rather sexual he could gift his boyfriend, but Shiggy had told him multiple times he was too scared of hurting Shinso with his quirk to do anything of that nature and Shinso fully respected Shiggys boundaries.
His quirk.
Now that was an idea which might even work.

The cake turned out surprisingly fluffy, seeing how they chaotically made it with little to no actual recipe. Oh well, he was sure Shiggy would at least appreciate the gesture.
Shinso had to admit he had made it to Shiggys apartment in record time, Shiggy visibly confused as he opened the door, seeing Shinso in front of it, a crudely made cake in one hand, a hastily packed present in the other, but nonetheless a big smile on his face.
“Happy birthday Shiggy!” Shiggys confused expression simply got worse, to the point where Shinso actually had to laugh. “You said you didn’t know when your birthday was,” Shinso pressed between Shiggy and the door, walking into the apartment and putting down his things on the nearest table, being the living room table. “So I decided it would be today! So happy birthday!” Shinso threw his hands up in a theatrical gesture, wishing he had gotten confetti before coming here.
“You-” Shiggy stared for a moment before his mouth slowly formed into a small smile.
“Ha, you smiled! Now you’ll never get me to leave!” Shinso laughed, quickly making his way into the kitchen to get a knife for the cake as well as two plates and two forks.
“My dad and I improvised and speed runned the cake, so I hope it’s not too horrible. I would have gotten you one at a bakery, but they would have taken too long and this seemed more personal” Shinso claimed as he walked back into the living room, setting down the dishes on the table.
Sitting down next to Shiggy, who had already sat down on the couch, admiring the cake with big, childlike eyes, Shinso just had to keep smiling. Never before had he seen a person this fascinated by something simple like a birthday cake.
“Oh, can’t forget this!” Looking towards the table, Shinso grabbed the present. “I got you something. I hope you’ll like it.” Holding it towards Shiggy, the other seemed hesitant to take it. “Or did you want to open it after we had some cake?”
Shiggy stared into Shinso's face, the confusion cute, but at the same time almost sad.
“...After” Shinso nodded, still smiling, taking the knife and holding it out for Shiggy to take.
“You’re the birthday kid, so you can cut the cake”

At first Shinso was slightly terrified of Shiggys reaction to the cake, hoping they hadn’t horribly fucked it up and it was actually enjoyable, but seeing Shiggy staring at it in such awe, taking the smallest, most hesitant bite of it before his face lit up, a big smile suddenly taking over his facial features, was enough to tell Shinso they had done a masterful job with the cake.
“Do you like it?” Shinso knew it was stupid to ask, but seeing Shiggys happy nod, how his whole body suddenly shook with excitement, like a small child on christmas morning, it made Shinso realize why he fell in love with this man.
As weird as Shiggy was and as much as Shouta hated it that Shinso was together with a man four years older, a man his dads had never met, Shinso wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world. Not with how Shiggy was looking at Shinso like Shinso just showed him all the answers to any possible question in the universe.
Not with how Shiggy devoured piece after piece of the cake until nothing was left, falling against Shinsos shoulder in a food coma kind of way.
“We’re not done yet” Shinso chuckled, leaning forward, careful not to have Shiggys head loll off, and grabbed the present still on the table. “You still need to open this” Holding it out for Shiggy to take, the other was once again hesitant, paranoid even, before carefully taking the present, almost as if no matter if he touched it with all five fingers or not, it would turn into dust.
Being just as careful opening it as he was simply holding the present, Shinso’s heart was beating faster and faster.
Hopefully he would like it.
Shinso really wasn’t sure.
What if he didn’t like it? What if Shinso fucked up? No, no, he would like it. Shinso was sure of it.
Was he though? What if? What if-
“Are these-... gloves?” Shiggys voice was unsure, shaky as he carefully pulled the gloves out of the box Shinso had stored them in, while Shinso tried his best to smile.
“Yeah I- uhm… You said your quirk works by you touching something with all five fingers, right? So I thought what if there was something between whatever you were touching and your fingers which you are also not touching with all fingers. Long story short I cut two of the finger parts off of each glove” Shinso rambled, while Shiggy simply stared, first at Shinso, then at the gloves in question. Shinso had indeed cut off both the ring and pointer part of the glove. “How about we try it out! I’ll go get something like a paper towel or something, so that in case it doesn’t work, nothing important breaks! Alright?” Shiggy just nodded, not even fully paying attention to whatever Shinso was saying, only realizing he might have had to pay attention when Shinso got up and ran out of the living room towards the kitchen.
Perhaps he should try putting them on? Yes, he should.
And he did. It was surprisingly simple and he didn’t accidentally dust them. He had to say he was sort of proud of himself.
When Shinso came back, he immediately sat down right next to Shiggy, their thighs touching, something which made Shiggys face heat up. Shinso didn’t seem to realize, simply holding out the paper towel in his hand for Shiggy to take.
He wasn’t sure. Hell, that was an understatement.
Shiggy had to admit, he was terrified. What if it didn’t work? He didn’t want to have some false sense of hope. He had lived like this for years now so why would it matter anyway. His quirk wouldn’t just go away. No matter what he does, he’ll always have to be careful. He’ll always be a threat. He’ll always be a villain.
So why would it matter if he took this stupid paper towel with all fingers now? It would just dust and the hope would be over.
Yet it didn’t.
Shiggy took it with all five fingers, but it didn’t crumble in his hand. Not even when he took it with his other hand as well. Not even when he formed it into a ball and held it between his hands.
It simply wouldn’t dust.
The gloves worked.
“Now look at that” Shinso looked up, a huge smile on his face, a smile that made Shiggy fall in love with the boy in front of him all over again.
A boy he now wouldn’t have to be afraid to touch.
And oh did he touch him. Letting go of the paper towel, Shiggy took Shinsos face into his hands, softly stroking the others cheeks, before pressing a soft, yet demanding kiss to his mouth, a kiss Shinso simply melted into.
“Fuck. I love you. I love you so much” Shiggy whispered after they finally parted, both already out of breath.
“I love you too. Happy birthday.”
