Shifty inhaled the familiar Virginia air, tilting his head up, eyes closed.
His parents were standing in the doorway, watching him as he sat on the grass.
Quiet footsteps came from around the front, whoever it was inhaling at the sight of him.
Shifty heard his mother whisper something, before her and his father went back inside, leaving him here with the mystery person.
He could smell a faint scent of smoke and some kind of fabric.
The mystery person let out a soft laugh.
“You always did like the woods, huh Shifty?”
Shifty opened his eyes, snapping his head to look next to him in pure shock.
Tab gave him a lopsided smile.
“Tab,” Shifty whispered.
Tab chuckled, shaking his head.
“Hey Shift, how ya been?”
Shifty blinked a few times, still registering the fact that Tab was there. At his house. In Virginia. Sitting next to him.
Tab seemed to realize what was happening and laughed harder.
Shifty lunged forwards, throwing himself into Tab’s arms.
Tab caught him easily, pressing their lips together.
“Welcome home Shifty,” he murmured.
Shifty smiled into the kiss, pressing closer to Tab.
