Address to the Nation by President Belva Zelenskyy, six hours after the attack on Marthasville:
Good evening.
Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, and our very freedom came under attack in a deliberate and deadly attack. Only a week ago, the portal in Marthasville was opened, and we were introduced to the Boiling Isles and its Emperor. They promised peace with honeyed words and false deeds.
And six hours ago they launched a sudden and deliberate attack on the great city of Marthasville. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by an evil, despicable act of terror. The images of buildings gutted in a tremendous explosion, fires burning, and huge structures collapsing have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong.
As Commander in Chief of the Army and Air Force I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. Indeed, we had driven the Demons from our sacred land less than an hour after their betrayal, and even now our brave soldiers are securing a bridgehead on their side of the portal.
Always will our whole Nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, our people in our righteous might will win through to absolute victory. I believe that I interpret the will of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the utmost, but we will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us. With confidence in our armed forces, and with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph, so help us God.
