EraserMicTober2021 Day 8: Sleepy

Summary:

When your morning routine gets a little messed up. ;)

Notes:

This is the first time I've written a story in this series in the present tense, and I didn't realize how difficult it could be. :) But I think it fits the scenario better.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The alarm clock rings. The deafening sound makes Shouta startle. He grabs the resounding troublemaker and throws it against the wall in one powerful motion. Silence. He pulls the blanket back over his head and seconds later a soft steady snore can be heard.

Hizashi comes home completely worn out from working at the radio station. It's 6:00 AM and as much as he loves his show "Put your hands up," he sometimes wishes it didn't go from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM but ran at more pleasant hours. "Well, what the heck," he thinks to himself, yawning extendedly. "I'm going to take a quick shower and then off to bed. Shouta should be on his way to his patrol by now, after all." He looks at the clock again, nods and goes, already half asleep, to the bathroom.

After a refreshing shower, he strolls into Shouta's and his bedroom, yawning, and lies down in bed. He reaches for the blanket and finds that someone is holding it. The adrenaline rush makes him literally jump out of bed. As a pro-hero, he is quite used to reacting quickly and appropriately in surprising situations. But he didn't expect what he sees.
"Shou?"
The black-haired man shows no movement. Hizashi looks at the clock hanging on the wall.
"It's 6:30 AM, Shou! You need to get ready or you won't make it in time for your morning patrol."
Shouta mumbles something, but the blond doesn't understand a word. As he tries to pull the blanket away, Shouta clings to it with such strength as if his life were at stake.
"Shou, don't be silly," Hizashi shouts, tugging at the blanket. But he doesn't stand a chance. Shouta is ultimately physically stronger than him, and Hizashi gives up in disillusionment after a few tries. He sighs and sits down on the edge of the bed to ponder. Then an idea strikes him and he runs into the kitchen, beaming with joy. A little later, the coffee machine can be heard running.

"Shouta, look what I have here," the blond calls out in a sugary voice. "Without milk and without sugar. The way you like your coffee best." Again, only a grumble is heard from under the blanket. Hizashi kneels by Shouta's side of the bed and holds the coffee mug as close as he can to where he suspects Shouta's head is under the blanket. With a jerk, Shouta turns around and gives his husband the cold shoulder. Annoyed, Hizashi puts the cup on the nightstand and goes back to the kitchen. When he returns, he has one of Shouta's squeeze bags in his hand and finds to his horror that the coffee mug is empty.
"You're trying to annoy me, aren't you?" he asks indignantly. "I just don't want you to be late. Get up now!" Again he steps beside the bed. "What do you say if I give you one of your squeeze bags and you get up and get ready for it?" Now he doesn't even get a grumble in response, just an obviously feigned snore. The blond grimaces angrily and goes back to the kitchen. He takes the squeeze bag with him.

As he leaves the bedroom, Shouta peeks out from under the blanket. He didn't intend to annoy his husband, but he must have forgotten to tell him that he took Saturday off so they could spend the whole weekend together. However, he has to admit to himself that he enjoys the attention Hizashi thus gives him and he doesn't want to slow down his momentum. And just a tiny bit, he also enjoys teasing him.
He can hear that the blond is apparently preparing breakfast in the kitchen, and when Hizashi comes back into the bedroom, Shouta pulls his head back under the blanket.
"How do you feel about breakfast in bed, dearest?" whispers Hizashi with an angelic voice. He can't see Shouta grinning maliciously under the blanket.
He puts the tray on the nightstand and sits on the edge of the bed.
"Come on, Shouta," he begs. "You won't make it in time otherwise." He gently shakes the body lying under the covers and again gets only a grumble in response. He shakes more violently and tries once again to pull the blanket away. But the black-haired holds on to the blanket as if his life depends on it. Hizashi sighs and briefly considers using his quirk to force Shouta to get up, but immediately dismisses the thought. Shouta would be mad at him for the entire weekend. Besides, they agreed not to use their quirks on the other one.
"All right, Shou. You win," he finally gives up, getting up and going to get his cell phone, which he put on the sideboard in the living room. "I'll call the distribution office and tell them you're sick." Suddenly, a hand grabs Hizashi's arm and pulls him back. The blond can't react fast enough and lands unrestrained in his husband's arms, which he closes into a tight hug. The discarded blanket lies next to them and Hizashi takes a few seconds to realize what just happened. Just like him, Shouta is dressed only in his underwear and the warmth radiating from his body sends a comforting shiver down Hizashi's body.

"So you really just wanted to annoy me?" the blond asks and Shouta confirms this with a short nod. He buries his face even deeper into the blond hair and presses a kiss to the back of Hizashi's neck. The blond smiles defeatedly and lies down next to his husband without releasing his embrace. He pulls his knees to his torso and Shouta does the same, not wanting to interrupt the touch of their bodies at any point. Shouta's grip is tight, but when he loosens one arm and slides his hand down Hizashi's body, the blond takes his chance and turns to face Shouta, who doesn't expect this reaction.
"You took the day off, didn't you?" he confronts the black-haired man, who just grins at him triumphantly. Hizashi can't be mad at him, puts a few strands of black hair out of Shouta's face and kisses him tenderly. Shouta's free hand travels down Hizashi's back and remains on his butt. With just one movement, Shouta is over Hizashi and leans fully into the kiss. The blond grabs the back of his neck and pulls him even closer. "Sorry," Shouta breathes between two kisses before their lips meet again. "You're in the process of making it up to me.," Hizashi counters before another kiss follows. They couldn't care less that breakfast is getting cold.

Notes:

In my mind, there is a distribution point for patrols in the city that also includes all independent heroes (like Shouta), ensuring that every district is monitored by a hero at all times.^^
