Chapter Text

Miles Edgeworth liked to think he enjoyed life in Germany. Whilst he did to an extent, he also missed his life back in Japanifornia. He missed the loud traffic that he used to moan about waking him up early in the morning, he missed the sweet, unhealthy fast food and how he didn't eat it but watched others eat it and most of all, he missed Phoenix Wright.

Stupid Phoenix Wright

He missed seeing the man stutter in court and bluff till he found the truth and he hated to admit it, he didn't mind being defeated if it meant he could see Phoenix smile. Miles stopped himself, scowling. He had to stop thinking about Wright, that would only make him sadder. This was supposed to be a happy time for him, a life changing experience. Miles took a sip of the scalding tea he had prepared recently, wincing as it burnt his tongue and lips. It was a cold day in Germany, and Miles needed to warm up. He had been investigating a crime scene all day, which just so happened to be outside. He had bad luck, Miles thought.

The tall man stood up, moving slowly from the window he was sat under and heading into another room, moving past Pess and patting the sleeping dog on the head. He continued over to his bed, starting to gently undress. Once his clothes were off, he pulled on an well worn shirt with the Steel Samurai splattered over it. Miles rubbed the material gently, a small smile falling on his lips. Whilst he adored the kids show, Von Karma had taught him that it was weak to like those kind of things, so he had just given up trying to talk about it. Maybe that was something he could change, he knew Maya Fey was a fan and Phoenix had mentioned her forcing him to watch it. The smile on his face faded and he hurriedly pulled on his joggers, not wanting to think about Phoenix. It hurt too much.

Miles quickly passed Pess again, once again moving to pat the large dog, and he went back to the window, sitting down again. It was much more comfortable wearing these clothes. He should do it more often. He pulled on a pair of glasses, wriggling back into the chair. Miles eyed a thick tome resting next to the cup of tea he was drinking earlier and he picked it up, resting it in his hands and pulling it open, his eyes starting to wander through. As he read, the book became heavier and the words became more blurred until Miles fell asleep, gently snoring.

Bang

Miles woke up, his eyes wide. What was that? His head pounded as he heard a scream from outside. he slammed the book that had slipped onto his lap onto the coffee table and quickly stood up, rubbing his eyes. What time was it anyways?

It was 1 am.

Miles groaned, pulling his jacket over his Steel Samurai shirt and he rushed past the elevator, throwing open the door to the stairs, running down them. It was then he regretted being on the top floor.

Bang

Miles winced as the second noise filled his ears and he hurried, reaching the door. He pulled it open, running onto the street and gasping at the scene. There were two bodies. A man and a woman. Miles drew closer, his heart pummelling against his ribs. They had been shot. Once each. Miles noticed the gun on the ground next to the bodies and he studied it, noticing that it was broken.

He was broken out of his thoughts when he heard a loud wail. Miles turned to see a young girl watching the scene with fear evident in her eyes. Miles gulped, his mind drifting back to D-L6. He had been like that when he woke up to find his Dad dead and yet this girl was younger than he had been. Miles rushed towards her, crouching down to her level and studying her closer. She was young, very young. She had bright green eyes and brown hair, which turned to a blonde similar to his own hair. He reached to place a hand on her cheek and slowly pulled her into a hug, repelling the thoughts flashing through his mind. He would make sure she wouldn't end up with a Von Karma, no, he was going to care for her himself.

"Hey, it's going to be okay." he whispered, feeling the girl tremble in his arms. "You're Okay.
