Work Text:

Step into my world, Bittersweet love about a girl

Shook me to the core, Voice like an angel I’ve never heard before

They stood on opposite sides of the city, each trying to find the will to move. He could see her icon flashing on his baton, and knew that she could see his on her yoyo. It wasn’t like he didn’t want to go to her. His need to see her had driven him out of his cell of a bedroom and onto the Parisian rooftops without looking back. Yet still, he hesitated, and now his body refused to cooperate with him as every plaguing thought rooted him to the spot.

Every what if crossed his consciousness, every lingering doubt clenched tighter around his heart. His chest burned, begging for relief that oxygen refused to provide. His lady was the most precious person in the world, in and out of the mask. Losing her would be like losing part of himself. The cold would consume what little warmth he had gained, and that nightmare vision of white would no doubt become real.

Violently he shook his head in denial, kneeling down into himself. He refused to let that vision come to pass. He would lose her if he lost himself, and he couldn’t, wouldn’t, let her greatest fear come true.

Thinking of her smile and hearing her encouraging words whisper in the wind gave him the strength to stand once more. She had always, unknowingly, given him confidence he desperately needed. He didn’t know how his life would have been without her…

No, that’s not technically true. He knew exactly how it would have turned out, and he probably wouldn’t be here now. The Miraculous on his finger wouldn’t feel nearly the same, or remind him of the girl who had captured his heart from day one.

It brought a smile to his lips. He’d met her twice that day, without even knowing. Even when she almost slipped up, he hadn’t fully connected the dots until the truth was right in front of him.

Well, behind him. She had always been there, whenever he needed her.

He stared out into the distance, his heart racing a mile a minute.

There were no more secrets. No more lies. No more walls keeping the truth of their hearts safe and protected. He knew the truth of the shadows she carried around her, and she knew the truth of the blinding light where he hid his own secrets.

Here in front of me, shining so much brighter than I have ever seen

Life can be so mean, but when he goes I know he doesn’t leave

A single step forward was all it took, before Ladybug’s body lunged forward and she took off racing towards him. Her mind and her heart had crystal clarity, with not a moment of hesitation.

There weren’t two people. Chat Noir and Adrien weren’t even two halves of the same coin. Chat Noir was just Adrien’s protective instinct, where he could act on his unrivaled courage and let his inhibitions run free for once. It didn’t stop his genuine kindness, or how deeply he cared about the things he loved and cherished.

Adrien was Adrien. Mask or no mask. He was her partner, the greatest love of her life, the person she knew she didn’t ever want to lose. She’d hurt him in more ways than one, letting her fear push her actions.

But no more.

At the same moment, Chat Noir broke as a gust of wind pushed him from behind, a silent sign from the world that he had nothing to fear.

He broke off into a run, buildings passing him in a blur with every powerful stride. Nothing mattered more than finding her, than of seeing her again.

A smile erupted on her face hearing the familiar scraping of boots come from in front of her, until the moment he came into view.

The truth is finally breaking through, Two worlds collide when I’m with you

Our voices rise and soar so high, We come to life when we’re in Perfect Harmony

A smile erupted on his face seeing her form appear over the nearest rooftop, pushing his legs to move even faster.

Her eyes caught his magnificent green sclera, her heart reaching places she never knew it could go.

Their bodies collided, winding their arms around each other as the world disappeared around them. Only the truth remained, vast and loudly present, refusing to be denied.

It didn’t matter that she had fallen in love with Adrien first. It didn’t matter that he had fallen in love with Ladybug first. Her friendship with Chat Noir had changed her life, the way his friendship with Marinette changed his.

You set me free, You and me together is more than chemistry.

Love me as I am, I want your music here inside my hands.

We say we’re friends, We play pretend

You’re more to me, We’re everything

Their eyes met, and in them passed a thousand whispered words. Every fight, every secret, every time they had unknowingly hurt the other. Every time they had unknowingly fallen more... it all rose and reached new heights.

They wouldn’t change a thing, simultaneously knowing that things would be different now if they hadn’t experienced the heartache. They understood each other as well as they understood themselves. They exchanged soft smiles.

Despite the effort as fate continuously piled more on top of them, waiting for the moment their legs would give and they would fall under its pressure, their love proved stronger. That pressure vanished as they finally shared the burden of carrying the world together. They would never break again. They would never falter.

He was her shield, her protection from the sinister white that haunted her for so long.

She was his fire, his protection from the bitter cold that threatened to consume him.

They leaned closer, eyes fluttering closed as they stopped holding back. Darkness took over the day, as the moon kissed the sun above them.

His lips met hers and the world stopped, reaching perfect harmony.
