The Silent Regard Of Stars

Notes:

Rocket Girl has been given the name "Aaji" for this fic (Like RG, get it?). Just a heads up in case you don't know who is being referred to, or if you're reading this in the future when she has a canon name (if that even happens)!

This chapter is completely SFW!

Fic title taken from FFXIV track of the same name <3

Chapter Text

To be proud of one’s bedroom is not a rare thing; The satisfaction that comes with one’s carefully curated space of which they spend so much time within is truly something to strive for.

Within the relatively short amount of time Aaji had lived in this space-  barely half a year, to be more precise - she felt safe to say she was satisfied.

Situated within a loft, her walls were decorated with anything that glimmered in the light. Golden stars of various sizes hung from thin strings attached to her tilted ceiling, and on the surfaces themselves were small, shimmering lights that framed her bed. When the sun would rise each morning, its gentle rays would slowly creep through the window behind her bed, illuminating her room with a wondrous warmth and glow, made even more beautiful with the light bouncing from the various trinkets in her room. Likewise, a taller window positioned across the opposite wall would allow a repeat of this scene come sunset; outside, the stars awoke slowly as the world drifted asleep.

Aaji always preferred the sunset over sunrise; while her room would be equally gorgeous no matter the time, seeing the stars - real stars - in the sky through the window always sent pangs of longing through her chest. She wanted so badly to reach them, one day. To see them as close as she could the ones hanging from her ceiling, in all their beauty.

Such were the thoughts that would swirl in her head each and every night before she drifted off to sleep, curled up amongst the blankets and pillows filling the empty space within her bed.

But tonight, Aaji’s thoughts were elsewhere.

For the first time, someone else was sharing her view.

She lay beside Aaji, eyes dancing with wonder at the silent spectacle of lights that felt all too familiar to that which Aaji had experienced on her first night here. Her own thoughts, however, were enraptured not by the beautiful display of lights before them, but instead by everything the person beside her had so quickly become within the short afternoon they'd known each other.

Aaji held her breath for a moment as she felt a yearning tug in her chest and, biting her lower lip, could not stop the grin forming at the edges of her mouth. She felt alive... and tonight the rising blanket of stars signaled the beginning of something new.
