Work Text:
Bright lights enter the windows to Irelia's room as she stirs awake. 'Another day.' The blade dancer thinks, as the rest of her regain their senses. Bleary eyes try to focus on the ceiling. 'Warm.' She thought, but the sun shouldn't be that hot yet. 'Weight.' Her mind registers, 'comfortable' she deemed. Irelia turns her head to the side- Riven. Irelia sighs softly, adjusting her arm that was underneath the Noxian's head to hold her closer. Irelia is silent for a moment, mind still foggy- definitely not a morning person.
It felt nice, Irelia thought as she tangles her fingers in Riven's white locks, pulling her ever so closer. Thinking.. she's been doing it a lot recently, especially since Ionia was being rebuilt again and the unknown threat of Syndra. If she stopped thinking, there will be casualties. Her head hurts already. Irelia was tempted to close her eyes and indulge in the feeling but she knew better than to dismiss her duties. Regretfully, Irelia places a light kiss on Riven's forehead as she gently takes her arm back to get out of bed. Irelia misses the warmth already.
"First thing on the agenda, breakfast." Irelia said out loud to herself, something sort of like a pep talk to herself. As Irelia was about to put oil on the pan, Riven walks into the kitchen with a hairband on hand. "Good morning, 'Lia.." Riven trails off- not a morning person either. "Good morning to you too, Venny." Irelia replis with a chuckle. "You look very frazzled." "Yeah, yeah, very funny, Lia. Not everyone can wake up looking like a goddess just like you." Irelia flushes red at the compliment, even if Riven did shower her in praises often.
"So, whaddya thinking for breakfast?" Riven asks after tying her hair into that signature braid and she walks closer to Irelia. "How does st-" "I didn't mean food." Riven interrupts and Irelia knits her eyebrows in confusion. "What do you mean?" She asks, turning to face Riven who simply gestures at one of her blades. 'WHY YOU DIRTY LITTLE TRAITOR' Irelia curses at her blades mentally for being so reactive to her emotions. "Do you want to talk about it?" Riven begins carefully, knowing full well that her partner has trouble with sharing her own emotions. "No, not really." Irelia responds- not today and not ever. As Ionia's blade, she is not allowed to show wear and tear. She will protect this land even if it costs her life and she has swore to it many summers ago. Riven just sighs and signals Irelia to face the other direction, which she reluctantly follows. "You know, Irelia.." Riven started, as she began to work on her partner's hair. "I was a commander too." Irelia didn't know where this was going but she definitely did not want to start THAT conversation in the morning. "I can tell that you're stressing out and on the verge of a burnout even if you can't feel it." Riven continues. "Your blades didn't tell me anything, but they did confirm it. You're thinking too much, Irelia." The Noxian said as she continued to intricately braid Irelia's hair. Irelia was silent, trying to comprehend Riven's words. "I understand your concern, but I'm-" "Irelia. You're Irelia. Xan Irelia to be exact." Riven finished her sentence. "You're just you, especially with me and that's what I love. Don't forget that. I would hate for you to be depressed." Riven said as she finished the french braid on Irelia, leaving two strands at the front to frame Irelia's face.
Irelia hangs her head low, trying to think of a compromise. "Hey." Riven says sheepishly as she turns Irelia to face her. "Hello." Irelia replies after a while and looks at Riven's smiling face. "You look so gorgeous, love." Riven compliments again and pink starts to dust Irelia's cheeks. "Want to go back to sleep?" Riven asks. "I have work to do." "Just for today? I can stop by the Placidium for you." Irelia sighs, Riven is so headstrong. "You don't have to, I can just leave early." "Nope, I want to and I want to see you rest for today." "You're such a brat." "Yours truly! So, do we have a deal?" "What about breakfast?" "What about... we go to bed and I make brunch?" "Deal." Irelia says and Riven just laughs, dragging Irelia back to the bedroom. "Love ya!"
'You truly are my dawn. As I fall, you will rise me up.' Irelia thinks for the last time that day as her eyes begin to close, sleep beginning to take over. She truly was at peace in Riven's arms.
