Chapter 1: castle

Chapter Text

For a girl who lived her life through glasses of rose, she certainly chose a vibrant and starking red with which to ruin her life. The colour however, matched her rage.

The friends she treasured most had not only lied to her, but hid things and conspired behind her back. Told fibs to her face with unflinching eye contact and an unseen sense of guilt. She was ropable.

When she had arrived at her aunt's house she viewed the gate with a sense of being trapped. A piece of barbed wire and metal that kept her hidden from the life she had known.
As she approached the gate now, she remembered those thoughts with irony. The metal bars that she once thought may be her prison now became her salvation, not so much trapping her in but keeping those that betrayed her out.

Her walk was stilted, and as her eyes flew over the 4 - Eda looking determined, Osman looking concerned, likely calculating the ways this interaction may go and Kerem looking heartfelt with his puppy dog eyes - they landed on Sinan, who could barely look at her.

“What do you want?” she asked, not unkindly.

Their pleas went unanswered, unheard. Passing through a mental barrier that turned their earnestness into whining and their truthful confessions into statements mentally compared to those given a day ago.

“I thought we were a team and I was one of you.”, she started strongly, her voice getting harder, filling with anger as she went, “But you ditched me as soon as there was a problem. Just because I’m not as crazy or disobedient as you doesnt mean I’m stupid.”

Kerem tried to reason, but she was a bulldozer and her words cleaned up the remains of their friendship, “How could you lie to my face like that?” she demanded, unflinchingly looking at Sinan hoping he would look at her and just say something.

Osman tried to reason, come up with a plan as he was wont to do but it couldn’t get through to her. Isik had a shield of anger around her, as real as the gate that kept them apart.

“I’m done. It’s over. I wouldn't want your help anyway.” She felt strong. Set. Resolute.

But underneath all of this anger was a raw wound of pain, ripping at her chest with every breath, and as she stared into the eyes of her friends her shield slowly fell apart around her.

Their claims of her goodness always went brushed off by her, a smile and a blush and the topic swiftly changed. But they spoke of the truth, and even as she stood up to them mere moments before she couldn’t help but recognise the good in them and the good intended by their actions.

The filter in her brain was no match for their bond and as the anger fell she felt the pain and panic she had been keeping buried slowly rise to the surface.

It rose higher and higher, making itself known to her until without any conscious thought or decision the keys turned in the lock of the gate.
