A Weekly Duel

Summary:

OC-Tober 2021, Day 3
Prompt: Duel

Sekkachi ponders her and Might Guy's weekly sparring matches.

Work Text:

Sekkachi huffed in exasperation as she pulled her pants up over her hips and tied her hair up in a ponytail. It was Wednesday and that only meant one thing: Guy would be at her door any minute.

Sometimes Sekkachi wondered if she would be better off just pretending like she wasn’t home. She could hide in the bathroom, tucked behind her shower curtain, or climb into her closet with the lights off. She laughed at the bitter irony.

It wasn’t that she hated their weekly sparring matches—far from it. There were simply times that Sekkachi didn’t feel up to the fight. Guy understood this, of course, and empathized with her on the days when she lacked the energy. Chronic illness made ninja work tricky business. But it was that sense of routine that helped Sekkachi feel a little more normal.

She appreciated Guy’s devotion, as well. He never failed to arrive at her front door on time, if not ten minutes early. He always greeted her with a smile. He always encouraged her and complimented her form. He was the most positive, uplifting person that Sekkachi knew and while that uplifting positivity often lent itself to irritation on her end, she was still grateful for it nonetheless. After all, who else was going to drown her with the most sappy and supportive of comments?

Sekkachi smirked in earnest as she checked over her reflection once more, then turned to slip on her sandals. Like clockwork, Guy knocked on the door just as she finished getting ready. When she answered, he fed her a quick thumbs up and flashed her an award-winning smile.

                “You ready, Sekkachi?” he asked.

With a quick smirk, Sekkachi slapped her hand amicably to his chest and skirted past him through the doorway. “You’re on, Guy.”
