Work Text:
Piper hadn’t been awake long when an Iris Message lit up her small room.
“Piper! I need your help.” Leo looked frantic. His hair stood up at all angles and he looked a mess.
Suddenly feeling far more awake and worried, Piper shot out of bed “What’s wrong?” Her mind ran to all the worst case scenario’s.
“The school dance is next week.”
Piper sat back down on her bed, “Ok, and why do you need my help? You have a girlfriend.”
“Exactly!”
“I’m sorry what?”
“Agh, no not like that! I don’t know how to dance!”
“It’s a school dance you just I don’t know bop.” She was contemplating going back to sleep.
“But what about the slow dance?”
Oh. That was his issue. “Ok I can help, how soon can you be here?”
“Right about now.” There was a knock on her front door.
Piper glared at him and he had the grace to look sheepish. “Gimme one minute to get dressed, I’m not dancing in Pyjamas.”
She heard the front door unlock itself and Leo swiped his hand through the Iris message.
Piper came out a minute later in leggings and an oversized t-shirt. If she was honest they might as well have been pyjamas too.
“Ok first things first, we need music.”
Leo reached into his tool belt and pulled out a tiny music box.
“You’re prepared.”
“Cal’s never been to a dance before, I want it to be good for her.”
Piper felt slightly less annoyed about being forced to get dressed before the sun had risen.
“Can I have a look at it?”
The music box was small enough to fit in her palm. It had a tiny crank that turned a cylinder with bumps on it. These bumps hit long metal tines. Piper turned the crank handle once and it started making music on its own.
Piper watched it for a moment before placing it on the coffee table and turning to Leo.
“So because it’s a school dance I’m gonna keep it simple. No need to teach you to waltz yet.”
“You know how to waltz?”
“Dad was in a Regency Era movie, he needed to practice.”
“Beauty Queen can actually dance, I picked the right person.”
“Don’t act so surprised, now put your hands on my hips.”
Leo pulled a face but complied. His arms were rigid as sticks Piper put her hands on Leo’s shoulders and clasped them round his neck. She was a little talker then him so it was comfortable.
“Relax your arms and pull me in slightly, but not too close or the chaperones will yell at us.”
“What chaperones?”
“The imaginary ones, now sway slightly. Move your feet a little.
Leo stomped and swung his shoulders wildly making Piper stumble. “Like this?”
Piper laughed, “more like this…”
Piper pulled Leo in closer and moved her feet just slightly. It was barely dancing.
Leo mimicked her and they stood in Piper’s small lounge area for a moment before he said, “Is this it?”
“Yeah,”
“Pipes I wish you’d lead with this I wouldn’t have flown out to Oklahoma if I’d know it was this easy.”
Piper laughed again and stepped away. “If you want I can teach you to waltz, that’s much harder.”
“Do you think I’ll be good enough at it for Cal.”
“Absolutely.”
