Work Text:
Fall was fast approaching in Belgium.
Renee looked out the window of the cafe, wrinkling her nose.
Gene was making them both something warm to drink in the back, and she could smell whatever spices he was using.
She rested her elbows on the counter, gazing out the windows as the sky darkened.
It was going to rain soon.
Gene slid a cup in front of her, and she smiled at him in thanks.
A few raindrops fell outside, turning into steady downpour a minute later.
Gene wrinkled his nose too, not a fan of the current weather.

They finished their drinks, and were tidying up around the cafe when obnoxiously loud laughter came from outside.
Renee looked through the door.
A bunch of soldiers, it was hard to tell who, were jumping in the massive puddles lining the main street.
“Eugene!” She called.
Gene’s head poked out from behind the counter.
Renee pointed outside.
Gene chuckled.
“I’ll start some hot water,” he said.
Renee grabbed the umbrella next to the door and opened it, standing under the downpour.
“Renee? Is that you?” One of the soldiers asked.
Renee smiled.
Tab.
She raised an arm and waved.
Tab jogged over, thoroughly soaked, his hair dripping, but smiling.
A few of the others hollered at Tab and he flipped them off.
One of them also jogged over, Renee laughing in a hopefully sympathetic way.
Babe looked miserable.
He was shivering and also soaked to the bone.
“Go inside and warm up, Eugene is making something,” she told him.
Babe thanked her and pushed open the door.
Lifting the umbrella up so it covered Tab, Renee took a step towards him.
“What are you doing?” She asked him, noting the smile still on his face.
“Splashing in the puddles,” Tab answered, shaking his hair out.
Renee smiled back at him.
Standing on her toes, she pressed a gentle kiss to his lips.
Tab stared at her for a few seconds.
He picked her up and spun her around, laughing at her shriek when her umbrella got knocked out of her hand.
The water was pouring down on both of them now.
Tab grinned at her, eyes full of love.
She kissed him again, her scarf drenched.
