Work Text:
Purah runs as fast as her legs can take her to Fort Hateno along with soldiers by her side. Not that she needed to be escorted, she could get there on her own. But Robbie would flip if he knew she got to the stronghold by herself without anyone alongside her. So, an escort it was!
Gazing up at Fort Hateno she trailed her eyes in Akkala's direction as she thought of him once again.
Hopefully he made it there safely...
"Director Purah, over here." A soldier chimed in and pointed to a building. Without a word, Purah nods and runs into the building. She looks around, there were miniature devices around, perhaps this would be useful if...
"I saw him!" A solder comes running in and points, "The Seer and lots of monsters heading this way!"
Purah's attention was drawn to the soldier.
"What?" The scientist runs to the entrance, looking out. There they were. Moblins, Bokoblins... even Guardians and Lynels were heading this way. What was going on?
"...If they are here then Robbie is safe from this attack..." Purah whispers to herself, biting her thumbnail and turns to the soldiers.
"Alrighty, guys! Let's fight until the end!" Purah smiles and holds up her fist in the air, encouraging the soldiers, "Get all the soldiers you can and..."
Boom.
The four Blights appears out of nowhere in the distance. However, looking more clearly, Purah saw Impa, Link and Zelda. Along with Astor standing in front of those four beasts.
Of course, she was too darn far away to know what was going on or what was being said. Immediately Purah starts to run towards the commotion until a soldier grabs her arm.
"Lady Impa and Link has this! Stay back!"
Purah shoves the solider away and huffs, looking back at what looked like Link was... facing all of the Blights by himself?
"Linky..." A quiet whisper under her breath left her throat, watching in silence as the knight fights them all as Zelda and Impa run towards Purah's direction.
This was too hard to watch, Linky was going to die out there and she could only stand there and watch it happen. There had to be something, anything at all.
Biting her lip, she couldn't just look away. Why wasn't anyone helping him? What was Impa doing?
"Soldiers! Help Linky right now! He is going to die out there!" Purah turns to them, pointing at Link's direction.
"Do something, will ya?!" There was desperation trailing her tone of voice, "Are you really going to watch a kid die out there? Help him!"
Plus, the faster he was out of there the faster they could all join in and go to Akkala to save Robbie.
That was sort of her main focus as much as she didn't want to admit it. She knew Akkala Citadel would be fine with the cannons and hopefully soldiers looking after him. Logically he would be safe.
Logically...
Them parting like they did leave her worried, though.
Robbie was a shaking mess before they had to split from the Royal Tech Lab from the Yiga. Luckily her quick thinking got them out of there and the little guardian too.
Frowning, Purah crosses her arms, thinking back again as she watched Link in the distance fighting.
Lost in her own thoughts again.
Knowing how paranoid that man was, she knew him like no other. Purah could feel him worrying to the max. Probably hiding it with a smile as he always does.
She chuckles sadly at the thought of him hiding it, if only she was there to reassure him, she was okay – that they were both okay. It pained her just knowing she wasn't there by his side to comfort him.
Taking a deep breath, she too, needed to calm down.
Suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by the sight of Zelda running towards Link. What was she...?
Another loud boom.
Purah pauses and looks over at a sudden golden light blasting throughout the entire field. Rushing a little further away from the base her eyes widened.
There the Princess of Hyrule stood, as if witnessing the Goddess herself came down upon Hyrule smiting down every vile being with her divine power...
Zelda's power awakened.
All the guardians around her and monsters fell back, screaming in agony, twitching and covering their eyes and face. Guardians collapsed to the ground and their heads twisting as if their coding went haywire.
Purah smiled and cheered.
"That was tip-top, Princess!" Purah yelled as loud as she could, "You gave it one hundred and ten percent, didn't ya?"
Zelda gasps, turning around and smiles at the sight of Purah, “Purah! You’re all right!” The Princess look of relief washed over quick as a soldier rushed over, pointing at some elemental guardians.
“The surge is not over yet. More guardians are headed this way!”
Purah smirks, this was the perfect opportunity to test out the little devices she has around the place.
Chuckling she puts her hands to her hips with a mischievous smile, “As it happens, I’m prepared to get us out of this pickle. Folks...” she claps her hands, “... Listen up! Those outposts crawling with monsters? I need ya to take ‘em back and secure the devices there!”
The Sheikah walks over to a table by them, showing what they look like with pictures from blueprints.
“Got it?”
Zelda rushes over, looking at what they look like and the map of the area, nodding.
“Understood! We’ll recapture the outposts.” Zelda turns around, looking at everyone and holds out her hand, “Everyone! Let’s divide and conquer!”
Soldiers raised their spears and swords in the air, cheering and yelling out battle cries as they ran out fighting in the field once more. They all headed to each outpost ready to claim what was there to help defeat the monsters.
Purah smiled at Zelda’s determination. She became quite the Princess. Watching her become confident, leading everyone into battle like this... Purah was incredibly proud of how far she’s come. From sneaking into the lab during free hours just to put all her passion into sciences like Purah was.
Purah’s eyes beam, watching Zelda holding out her hand and fight alongside everyone with her divine power... And she was so darn worried about it never awakening, too. Purah chuckles to herself.
She knew Zelda had it in her. She always believed in her when no one else did.
Her and Robbie both were always there for her when she needed them. He would be extremely proud of her too once they got out of here to help him out. Seeing her so lively again, not so down on herself.
Zelda didn’t just awaken her power just now, she found herself again and Purah saw it all.
A purpose, a reason... Hyrule and everyone in it was her true drive. That was what awakened it, wasn’t it? The drive to save what mattered most... She just needed that extra push.
Purah shakes her head and smiles at the thought – That Princess really did inspire her to be the best she can be.
Another divine blow to a guardian by the Princess snaps her out of her thought, Purah could only cheer.
“You’re crushing them! Keep it up, will ya!?” Purah smiles ear to ear. If only Robbie could see this...
Her smile fades quick as she turns back and runs back to her place waiting for the outposts to be taken back. She wanted to fight alongside them badly. So incredibly badly. She could take them. Each and every one!
Of course, though... If something did happen and she did end up injured she’d never forgive herself. Purah needs to be in tip-top shape to bust into the citadel herself, kicking the doors open to see Robbie’s smiling face as she can jump into his arms again. Being separated like this wasn’t fun.
It pained her. Her chest tightened with the thought of not being able to go to him right now.
Sure, she was out on the field all the time with Zelda and Link testing out her theories on the towers and Sheikah slate – how everything was connected but she’d always come back after a long day. Back to him.
He’d always wait for her too, always ask how it went, how her day was... Sometimes he’d stay up long nights waiting for her to walk back in and greet her a warm welcome.
It was almost – almost domestic. As domestic that they could be right now under the eyes of everyone around them, under all of Hyrule’s eyes, expecting so much out of them at all times. Especially under the pressure right now of the Calamity awakened.
They were Hyrule’s biggest chance of saving it if they got the data quick enough. If only she didn’t let so many Sheikah in her lab like she did. She should have known that some were just disguised Yiga.
Yet the last thing before Robbie and her parted was him blaming himself for this mess.
No, Robbie... It wasn’t your fault. She’d repeat it in her head over and over. Thinking of what to say when they reunited again.
If they did.
The fault was mine.
Purah brings her arms to herself, crossing them over her chest. Rubbing her arms as she looks down remembering the terror on Robbie’s face when the sickles were drawn to their necks. Of course, her quick thinking got them out of the mess, sure. But the guilt was still there.
When she sees Robbie again after they get out of here – She's going to make sure he knows this was not his fault. He cannot carry this guilt on his own with the whole weight of Hyrule also on his shoulders.
That’s why they are partners . They both can share this burden together. Zelda, Link, Impa, the Champions... Everyone in the Kingdom needs them. Despite it all – even if they are not out there in the battlefield – Hyrule needs them too.
“Zelda captured an outpost!” A soldier yells out, turning to Purah – drawing her back out of her deep thoughts again.
The scientist runs over and looks out, seeing a guardian explode in the distance with a bow of holy aura in Zelda’s hands.
“Good going!” Purah calls out, knowing Zelda wouldn’t hear her but her excitement took over anyways, “Now that that’s done and dusted, you can activate the device!”
Zelda looks around for it, carefully walking over to the strange Sheikah technology device sitting there. Closing her eyes for a moment Zelda takes a deep breath and nods to herself and tried to turn the device on.
Purah watched from her spot closely, biting her thumbnail, “Yup, that’s it!” There Purah goes, yelling out again, “Also, we don’t have any spares, so be veeery gentle!”
Zelda runs out as more soldiers run in protecting the outpost.
Even from where Purah stood, she could see the determination in Zelda’s expression. Chuckling Purah help but to smile in response.
That was a very familiar look she had there, she’s seen it before. Glancing over to Link, fighting for an outpost as well – that same expression of determination on his face. They truly were the same despite what Zelda thought.
“Report!” Two soldiers come in running, stumbling and almost tripping over their feet with panicked looks on their faces. One of them spoke, “Multiple Guardians making their approach from Dueling Peaks!”
Zelda rushes over, skidding to a stop to check on Purah once more – hearing the Hylian captain's warning. The Princess glances at Purah for a moment, sighing in relief knowing she’s still alright. She had to tell her about Robbie’s safety... but that had to wait just a little longer.
Zelda turns to the soldiers, “Leave the Guardians to me. Focus on recapturing the outposts and on defense.”
Zelda takes a deep breath, looking at all the monsters heading towards their direction, Purah walks beside Zelda, watching them drawing closer.
“If they are over here, they aren’t at the citadel...” Purah whispers to herself, the loud cries of the soldiers and monsters drowned out her whisper. Zelda looks at her for a moment, wanting to speak to her.
She drew her hand to her chest instead, looking out at the monsters scurrying their way.
“Purah, stand back, I’ll handle them on my own.” Zelda closes her eyes once more, holding her hands up as the sacred bow appears in her hands again. Aiming the light arrow at a guardian running towards them.
Purah swallows nervously, sweat dripping down her brow. Should she make a move? The Guardian was rushing towards them and seeing Zelda there drawing the bow... No. She needed to put her trust in her – she fully trusted her.
But still, this was a Guardian running full speed towards them. It was getting too close for comfort.
“Now!” Purah yells pointing at the Guardian. Nodding, Zelda let’s go of the holy bow’s string, shooting the arrow straight at the Guardian’s eye causing it to spark on impact. Zelda hovers in the air with that divine glow again and holds up her hand...
Casting down a beam of sudden light on the Guardian, destroying it instantly. Bits and parts of the Guardian exploded everywhere. Purah ducks down and blinks in awe.
“Wow! Look at you!” Purah cheered, her words alone were not even close to how she felt seeing this power up close like this. Oooh, Robbie would be completely awestricken at this!
“Soldiers! Hold your positions!” The Hylian captain yells out as they gather in front of Purah and Zelda. Purah rolls her eyes slightly as a smug smirk slowly arched her lips. Zelda was a big girl now; she could fight on her own. She blasted a Guardian just now with the power of the Goddess at her fingertips! As if she needed the protection!
Purah’s attention snapped to Link, finishing off a Lynel from the distance. The chosen knight leaps into the air, slamming his sword against the Lynel’s weapon. With a quick jump back and a dash, Link swings his sword with all his might at the Lynel’s legs, causing it to fall – unable to get back up. It was down for good.
The Sheikah clapped and pointed out to him, yelling, “Time for a celebration pose, Linky! Click snap!” She’d pose, happily.
Link blinks for a moment at her, smiling ever so slightly – running over to join Zelda fight. Purah shakes her head, lowering her hand, “... C’mon, don’t leave me hanging here.” She laughs and sees more soldiers running over with a thumbs up at Purah. They must have taken over another post.
Wherever she looked, more soldiers came running, fighting for the posts and to keep the Fort standing tall. Purah’s heart was racing, this was intense the more she stood there letting it all sink in. Walls crumbling, Guardian beams firing. Moblins with armies Bokoblins around them running from all sides. Lynels running and swinging violently.
Everywhere she looked there was no end. Soldiers falling down, others rushing to help only to be thrown. Defeated. Crying for help. She turns to look away only to see the same thing over and over. Swords clashing, battle screams, falling, failing, dying.
Purah closes her eyes as she tightens her hands into fists, trying to drown out everything.
Come on Purah, get a grip.
You need to survive for Robbie; for everyone out here counting on you. They are all here fighting, don’t panic. You got this under control.
You got this... You got this.
“Director Purah watch out!” A soldier rushes in, pushing the Sheikah out of the way of a Moblin swinging its weapon. As if all time slowed down, she watched the soldier get hit with a powerful swing of the Moblin, immediately going down.
Her eyes widened in horror.
What was she doing? Purah shook her head and ran back to safety. Her heart was going to burst out of her chest at any moment.
She was scared as much as she hated to admit it to herself. Purah had to push it down though, she couldn’t show any fear in front of anyone; especially not at a time like this. These soldiers were probably terrified too and they were dying out there for her.
Oh, Hylia... Purah had to do something about this.
Impa rushes back over, helping the soldier up and finishing off the Moblin, “Purah! Are you alright?”
Purah nods, she was still shaken up for a moment, blinking she smiles and there she goes using that over enthusiastic voice of hers, “I’m fine, Sis! You were a little late, I’m shocked!”
Looking over back at a faraway outpost seeing all the Guardians she finally speaks, “Restoring the Guardians to normal is another matter...” Purah’s attention is drawn back to a blueprint of the devices, “...but for now, this’ll at least knock ‘em out.”
She cracks a smile, “I based the device off tech inside your tiny automaton. Remember, it’s a one-time-only gambit.”
Impa tilted her head a bit, raising her hand to her chin, “How does it even work?” Purah chuckled again, holding out more blueprints as she started to explain.
“That there’s a...” She pokes the diagram of the device, “...modified Guidance Stone, capable of amplifying ancient energy from the ground!”
Impa leans in, rubbing her chin. Purah pulls the blueprint away and looks at it, smiling.
“It’s for my research, but if we use it wrong in juuuust the right way, we’ll overload their systems!” This was risky but what else could she do to help right now? This is all she got and she was crossing her fingers that it would work!
Zelda rushes back, looking at both Purah and Impa, “We’ve successfully secured this device!” She points at the map, grabbing a pen and places an X over three of the four, “Now we just need to address the final one.”
The older Sheikah points where the final one is, “Hurry to that spot, I know it’s riiiight there!” Zelda nods in response.
With that, she runs off into the battlefield once more, Impa following after her. The faster they got them working the faster they got the battle beat! In the meantime, while they rushed to the final device Purah looked around, while everyone was distracted, she looked at the map.
The yelling got louder. Screaming. Panicked cries. Monsters screams. Roars of the lynels; explosions from the beams of the guardians.
Purah’s hands clenched into fists as she looked down. She was... trembling.
She was going to die here, wasn’t she?
“I’m sorry I couldn’t have told you sooner, Robbie. Everything I wanted to say before but never thought we’d be in this position. I wish I took in the time we had together; the fun times, the quiet times... I’m sorry Robbie.
I should have said that I loved you -”
“Purah!” Zelda chimes in, panting heavily as she looks like she dashed all the way back, “...we’ve completed our task! With this, the guardians will...” Zelda paused, looking around.
Quickly Purah wipes the tears from her eyes and looks around, puzzled, “They’re not shutting down! Why aren’t they shutting down?!” She runs to the entrance, looking around, “...Hm. Maybe there’s an interference.”
The Princess walks beside Purah, “What... should we do, Purah?” She looks at Purah, looking back she saw the Princess she knew from before – that look of worry. She couldn’t let her worry like this!
Come on, Purah... Think!
“Something must be jamming the devices’ power supply. I’ll...” She took a deep breath, “... I’ll head to the lab and try rebooting them!”
Purah takes a torch, lighting the blue flame and dashes into the field with no warning. Zelda gasps, following her, “Moving alone across the battlefield is a death sentence!” Zelda eyed around, waving soldiers to join them, “Let’s escort Purah!”
Grinning, Purah continues to run towards the lab. Honestly, if she could make it to the lab, activating the devices and then she fell in battle? She’d be... okay with it. At least her risk was a good one, right?
Soldiers hurried over quickly and along with them was Zelda. She did not leave her side. Purah wanted her to go elsewhere but... a part of her was thankful. She’ll have to thank her later if she could.
It wasn’t easy of course, there were monsters everywhere. No matter where their eyes traveled, monsters left and right. Even skeletal monsters were there now – it was a living nightmare.
Worst of all as she drew closer to the lab – a blight appears.
“Oh, gears and screws!” Purah skids to a stop as Zelda stops beside her, “Something’s coming!”
Zelda gasps, looking at the electricity sparking from the twitching blight that drew closer, “That monster! There must've been more...”
Purah grumbles, gritting her teeth, “I bet that’s why my devices are on the fritz! Hurry up and get rid of these bozos!”
Quickly, the blight zips at high speed, zooming towards Purah and swings their sword at her. With a strong force, knocking her back to the ground – dropping the torch. Quickly she picks it up to see the blight raise its sword at her again. The blue hue of the flame lighting up the Thunderblight’s face as electricity sparks powering up on the blade.
Purah closed her eyes, waiting for it to strike.
This was it.
Bye, everyone. I'm sorry I wasn't successful ...
Upon opening her eyes after some time, there was Zelda in front of Purah holding her hand out – divine power flowing around them. Thunderblight Ganon screeches at the light as Zelda hovers into the air, holding up her hand now.
“Do not harm Purah!” Zelda yells as she waves her hand down, sending a huge blow of divine light magic at Thunderblight.
Screeching again, the blight tilted it’s head up towards the sky as malice poured out of it – causing the blight to suddenly explode.
Purah sat there shaken up for a moment; This is what the Calamity was, wasn’t it? These monsters were nothing like she has seen before. No books or textbooks got them prepared for this. The little guardian perhaps – if only they had enough time... If only...
“Purah, are you alright?!” Zelda holds out her hand to help, Purah takes it, nodding.
Right. She had a mission to do!
“All right!” Purah grins, “I can keep going!” With the bright, upbeat smile on Purah’s face she hops back up. Running towards the lab. She was nearly there; she could see it! The lab was so darned close!
Don’t worry, Robbie. When this is all over, I’m going to save you.
She skids to a stop upon seeing malice infesting into a giant blight in front of her. Much larger than that last one – this one was far more aggressive. It blocked the lab’s entry, Purah could not avoid this one.
Wingblight Ganon as it fully appears immediately aims their cannons at Purah. Charging fire.
“Just as I thought...” Purah clicks her tongue under her breath, “...They’re gumming up the works!”
Zelda, along with a few soldiers' rush in front of Purah, attacking the Windblight while they were charging up a beam. Purah bit her lip, looking up at how huge that blight was – it was as big as the building itself. There was no way they could take that thing down... No, she had to be positive.
Taking a deep breath, Purah yells, “Take em’ out so I can reboot the devices!”
Zelda nods in response, dodging each beam and maliced laced tornado from the Windblight so fast yet gracefully. Purah was once again in complete awe of her. Thinking back to the way she was before, always so down on herself. Thinking she would never have this power awakened.
Feeling like she was no help at all just because of the power not awakening.
She was there the whole way, each step behind the scenes. Zelda always dropped by the lab after a hard day of getting yelled at by the King – her own father. Of course, she understood why – it was stressful times. Purah was always there cheering her on. Her, Robbie and Impa. Impa was closer to her since she was her protector obviously, but when Zelda dropped by the lab... It was always to lose herself in the books. Learn about ancient technology. Hang out with the best duo around. Purah always made sure that Zelda would forget her worries there and smile. Laugh. Have a good time and not have a worry in the world...
Purah smiled at the thought. She was going to miss those days.
From a scholar that thought she couldn’t do a thing, no matter how many people believed in her to a confident young woman who can kick evil’s butt and know she can do her best.
Scholar or the Goddess reborn – She was always her little Zeldie at heart. The daughter she saw her as. Too bad she couldn’t say that out loud, though.
All that aside, Purah saw it all. How much she has grown and boy, was she proud of her.
Suddenly the loud, painful screech of the Windblight snapped her out of her thought.
More soldiers came running over, pointing east of them, “A hoard of Guardians are heading this way!”
“I’ll deal with a few of them while the rest of you help Purah get to the lab!” Impa spoke out, she was following them from afar – just in case! However now she had to split for a bit to deal with the elementals.
Purah turns around and bites her lip at the sight of more elemental Guardians scurrying from the horizon. This... Wasn’t good. She needed to fix the devices stat! But the Windblight was still there.
“Purah, hurry into the lab while we draw the Windblight away!” Zelda yells at Purah for a moment, without realizing out of the sky beams dropped – hitting her, throwing her back against the ground. She fell, rolling down and hitting her back against crumbled pieces of the wall.
Purah screamed, rushing over to Zelda – or tried to. The Windblight aims one of the blasters at Purah’s head, charging up another beam.
“Purah...hurry to the lab for safety.” Zelda winced, pulling herself back up, “I can still fight!”
Purah’s grip on the torch tightened, her throat dried up. Glaring up at the blight she shook her head.
“How dare you hurt Zelda...” Purah rushes towards Windblight in pure rage, holding the torch up she eyes Link running over as fast as he could. Master Sword in hand, his teeth clenched and brows furrowed.
Zelda quickly gets back up on her feet, “Purah stay back from it!”
Purah grins mischievously as she tosses the torch at the blight, burning them with the blue flame. As the Windblight screech loudly once again as it suddenly catches on fire, Purah skids down, picking up the torch again. Running back near the lab.
Link takes the fire rod out, Zelda nods, holding onto it as well. They both cast a strong spell of fire magic down upon the blight. It could no longer attack as it was engulfed in flames waving their arms around in complete panic.
Zelda and Link looked at each other, both nodding – without a word spoken they knew what to do. Zelda holds up her hand as a sacred bow would hover down into her hands. Locked onto the enemy, Zelda’s eyebrows furrow. Focused. Aimed.
Link draws out his sword waiting for Zelda’s cue.
Time suddenly stops.
Zelda fires a sacred arrow laced with divine magic at the Windblight, causing it to painfully screech again. Link without a moment to spare rushes right after, jumping on top of the blasters and slams his sword into the Windblight’s eye. Hopping off the Windblight, they screech, shaking the ground from their voice alone.
Malice pours from the blight as they suddenly... disappear. Hopefully for good this time.
Purah grins, jumping up in the air!
“Aw yeah! That’s what they get for messing around with my lab!” She smiles at Zelda and Link, “Thanks for bustin’ them!”
Impa runs back, shaking her head, “Oh, Purah... you’re always speaking nonsense.” The younger sister stops beside Purah, crossing her arms.
Purah laughs, “Yeah, yeeeaah... Put the lecture on ice, will ya?” Purah grins, walking into the lab, “It’s time to see what my toys can do!”
Waving her hand, she walked into the lab steadily. Taking a deep breath at the unlit furnace in front of her, she slowly lowered the torch upon it. The blue flame lights up the furnace with a hum. Backing away, Purah’s eyes widen with pure awe. The blue light reflecting upon her round, cherry-colored eyes. Blinking for a moment she couldn’t stop staring at it.
Watching the furnace glow up like it did; this feeling was never dull. Was it the blue flame that brought the adrenaline? The feeling of power it brought? No matter what it was, Purah was overjoyed and hopped up at it starting up once again. The devices all around turned back on sending a giant wave of power that caused the Guardians to malfunction, shut down, some even stopped completely.
Purah runs over, seeing what the devices did. Once again, she knew it would work!
Thank Hylia she made it.
“A smaaashing success! And luckily, our little buddy here is still up and running!” She smiled for a moment. The smile fades quick as she sees a Guardian twisting its head and getting back up. Purah clicks her tongue.
“Howeeever... The effect is temporary.” Purah points at the Guardian she sees still in a daze from the blast, “If you get close to the Guardians, they’ll attack. Sooo.... don’t!”
Impa frowns, “There’s no use lingering. Let’s use this time to withdraw...” She pauses as injured soldiers stumble over, “...Hm?”
“Report!” One of the Hylian soldier's frowns, “An unusual Guardian has appeared on the plain, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it!”
Purah’s eyes widen, letting out a whimper.
Hopefully no one heard that, she starts to speak, “I... shoulda known it wouldn’t be so simple.”
She stays put in the lab, “Weeelp, good luck hacking and slashing, all! Purah, out!”
So, she says.
The Guardian was in their sights – a Maliced Guardian. Zelda immediately remmebered the one that tried to attack Robbie from before.
Zelda gasps, “It also showed up in Akkala Citadel...”
Purah’s heart stopped. Feeling it sink to her stomach. Did Zelda say that appeared at the Citadel?
That’s where Robbie was...
Purah looked at the Guardian in horror, “Calamity Ganon’s power at work. Even ancient energy is no match for that malign influence...” Biting her thumbnail she glances at Link, Zelda and Impa. She knew she had to stay here.
After mentioning Akkala Citadel though... that brought her back to the position she was in.
“It seems to be heading for Fort Hateno. We must stop it before in enters the fort!” Zelda spoke to everyone. Soldiers nodded, running towards it. Impa followed. Zelda glances at Link as he quickly followed after the rest.
Zelda turns back to Purah, her expression changes, “Purah.. I... We need to talk after this. It’s about Ro-”
Boom.
The Maliced Guardian’s beam aims at the Fort, cutting Zelda’s train of thought. Purah waves her hand giving the go to help the others. Zelda looks back at Purah desperately wanting to speak – however she nods, following the others to defeat the Guardian as fast as they could.
Purah leans against the entrance of the lab on her shoulder, hanging onto Zelda’s last words over and over.
“We need to talk after this. It’s about Robbie.”
What about him? Was he safe? Was he hurt?
Was he...?
Get a grip, get a grip!
Purah covers her face for a moment, the whimper from before turns into a small sob. Looking around the soldiers were busy elsewhere.
She was free to cry if she wanted. Finally, after all of this, almost dying a couple of times in just this moment of time. She was truly shaken but held it together pretty well with an audience. She was always great at that. Acting stronger than she was to boost the spirits of everyone else around her.
That was her strength but also her biggest weakness. Since on the flipside... While she was alone, she was terrified. All of this so suddenly, the imagery of the fallen soldiers, the monsters crushing the people who are trying to protect her. Zelda being hit by the Windblight’s attack since she was distracted by her.
It was piling up quickly – overwhelmingly quick.
And now with the thoughts of Robbie could be dead for all she knows? Without even telling him that... Everything that happened in the lab wasn’t his fault. It was hers.
I’m sorry, Robbie. I should have been there with you.
Purah holds her arms to herself, dropping to her knees finally. She needed to cry. Scream and cry. The sound of the Maliced Guardian’s beams and attacks drowned her out.
Good.
She didn’t want anyone seeing her cry like this. Small sobs turned to bawling. Bawling turned into a full crying session.
The image of Robbie’s terrified face flashes in her mind again and again, making herself cry more. Her own punishment for all of this. Purah should have done background checks on those Sheikah! She should have thought about the spies! But no, she was so stupid. Lost in her work as usual. So eager to keep the Calamity at bay – to stay one step ahead from it. Yet she only did the opposite, a step back.
Maybe she should listen to him more often. He was always so paranoid of their safety – everyone's safety... Purah was always a do or die type of gal.
If Robbie did... If he really is dead, she cannot step foot in the Royal Lab. Not without him. Who would stop her from her ways? Or question her ideas? Fuel her with new inspiration?
No one had her back like Robbie did – he was her other half. She only then realized when it could have been too late. Go figure.
“I’m an idiot, Robbie...” Purah whispered to herself as she dragged herself back up, watching the Maliced Guardian explode from the distance. Her heart dropped again. If that Guardian was destroyed, she had to prepare herself for what Zelda was going to tell her. Quickly wiping her eyes, she had to pull up that mask again: Upbeat and eccentric. Positive vibes.
You can do this, Purah.
Impa, Link and Zelda walk over to Purah, she overhears their conversation as they drew closer to her.
“It’s over, isn’t it?” Impa smirks a bit, referring to the Maliced Guardian. Zelda sighs in response, shaking her head.
“No. Until we can seal Calamity Ganon, there is no rest for us.” The Princess’s eyes met Link’s looking back at her. Both of them determined to end this once and for all.
Link’s determination matched Zelda’s: they were completely in sync – no words were needed to explain how they felt.
Purah walks over to them, meeting them half way.
“Well, well! Look at you guys! Still standing tall and strong! I’m proud of you guys...” Purah’s eyes trail to Zelda, “And you! You were amazing out there, Zeldie!”
Zelda giggles for a moment, covering her mouth. “I... It was nothing, Purah...”
Her eyes widen again, “Purah, I need to tell you about Robbie!”
Purah’s expression was clearly troubled, that broke her upbeat personality mask for a split second.
She didn’t want to hear it.
“Robbie told us you were here. We came as fast as we could after we saved him.” Zelda smiled, “I made a promise to him that I would bring you back home to him safely.”
The Sheikah froze for a moment. A wave of relief hit her.
Bring her back home to him...?
Purah bit her cheek, holding back tears. She couldn’t speak; she was so thankful, happy, relieved... so many other emotions she couldn’t process. For once she stood there looking like she was about to break down.
“Home...?” Purah could only mutter out as a sob sneaked its way out as she spoke.
Zelda smiled, nodding.
“He’s safe, Purah. Waiting for all of us to return.” Zelda reassured her once more.
Purah looked away for a moment, “I knew he would be! Let’s not waste any more time! What are we waiting for? Let’s go!” Purah smiled and rushes out of the lab.
“Wait, Purah! Just a little longer while we help the fallen soldiers here! We will see him soon!” Zelda holds her hand out.
Link shakes his head, carefully putting Zelda's hand back down to her side, “She’ll come back. Let her go – they need to see each other right now.”
Zelda quietly gasps at Link’s words, blinking back at Purah’s direction she smiled softly.
“You’re right. They need each other.”
Zelda was right, Purah was heading directly to Robbie’s way. Ready to see him again.
She was going to kick the doors open and jump into his arms, telling him what needed to be said: Three words. Three simple words.
I am sorry.
Or perhaps... another three simple words. She'll decide at that moment, of course.
