Running.
I absolutely hate moving in any way and running was definitely not an exception.
You may be wondering why I was running in the first place. Well, let’s just say I was running away. Nothing terrible was going on at home, and in my opinion, that was my problem.
Yes, you can call me spoiled, I don’t really blame you. But you have to understand my situation. My father was one of the richest people in the country and he always lectured me on how I should grow up to be a businessman just like him. My mom wouldn’t interrupt and she’d just agree on everything my dad said. I had to follow all of my dad’s rules even though I was practically all grown up.
And let’s just be honest, who wouldn’t run away?
Okay, maybe there are some people who would just obey their parents, but why would I have to do that?
Anyways, I had been running for about twenty minutes when I saw a blur of bright colors pass by me.
I immediately stopped and noticed a dark, narrow alley that was lit up by small lanterns. I could see a little bit of light from where the alley ends. I turned around to see if there was anyone following me and I saw no one so I ran down the alley.
I was so close to the other side when I tripped on a pebble and landed on my face. “Ow,” I groaned, getting up and rubbing my face. But when I realized my surroundings, it seemed that all the pain on my face disappeared.
I was in a huge green meadow with gorgeous flowers erupting from the ground. There were plats of every shape, color, and size. But what caught my eye was the big, violet willow tree that stood proudly in the centre of the meadow.
I quickly got onto my feet and walked into the meadow staring at it in awe.
That’s when I realized that I wasn’t alone.
Sitting under the shade of the willow tree was a boy around my age who seemed to be taking a very peaceful nap. He had fluffy brown hair that swayed with the wind and he wore a yellow hoodie.
I cautiously walked up to him and sat down beside him. He seemed to notice my presence and he jumped up suddenly.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you,” I said looking at the boy who looked scared out of his mind. “No, no, it’s completely fine. I guess I just overreacted a bit,” the boy replied, sitting back down next to me.
We sat like that completely engulfed in awkward silence when the boy spoke up.
“Why are you here? N-not to be rude or anything, but I’m usually the only person in this meadow.” “Well, I was sorta running away from home and I stumbled upon this place,” I said, fiddling with my fingers.
“My name is Kai, by the way,” the boy said with a smile on his face. “Nice to meet you, I’m Beomgyu,” I smiled back.“Do you have any family?” I asked, wanting to know the boy better. The huge grin that was plastered on his face just seconds ago completely disappeared.
“Nope. My parents abandoned me and my sisters when we were young. This meadow used to be our secret place; our magic island. But they’re both in a better place now,” Kai explained looking up at the sky with a bitter smile on his face.
“O-oh, I’m so sorry,” I mumbled. “Don’t be. It was in the past and I was able to move on,” the boy exclaimed with another smile on his face.
“You know, my sisters used to really like painting. They were the best artists I’ve ever met and they loved painting landscapes. This was their favorite place to paint. I always loved the way that they painted the sky. So sometimes I like to think that they still paint the sky, with all of their feelings, fears, and emotions…” Kai said, still looking up at the sky, his eyes full of hope.
“Well, then let’s paint our own sky. With all of our dreams and thoughts,” I said looking at him. “He looked at me and smiled. “I’d love that,” he whispered as he leaned his head onto my shoulder.
And that’s exactly what we did. Everyday and everynight, we would paint the sky. Sometimes it would look gloomy and sometimes it would look happy. No matter what we felt, we painted the sky with all of our feelings, fears, and emotions.
