Work Text:
The bask of the morning light slipped through the curtains, illuminating the room a light golden shade, gently warming the room as you yawned, blinking your tired eyes awake.
Your eyes rolled over to the phone by your night stand, a hand blindly reaching for it as you fumbled with the charger, plugging it out of the device, scowling as the bright light hit your face.
13:26, the phone read, your scowl deepening as you re-read it, dread piling onto your frayed nerves, making you groan loudly.
You missed school, again. And now the day was almost over, with an hour and a half left.
Stirring by your side, a messy haired head popped out of the blanket, opening their eyes to squint at the person making the noise.
”What are you doing?” Ran slurred, his voice groggy from sleep, watching as you snapped your neck to look over to your right, eyes widening in surprise as you took in the sight before you.
”Why are you in my bed?” You mumbled, bringing a hand to your face to rub at your eye, sleepiness still clouding your memory.
Ran shook his head, a gentle smile adoring his lips, “We fell asleep watching a movie. I think.” He said, yawning as he stretched, the blanket falling from his shoulders.
You nodded slowly, soaking in the information before you shed the blanket off of yourself, standing up.
“Well that’s nice, anyways, I gotta go get ready, my breath stinks.” You said, mumbling the last part as you trudged past him, opening the bathroom to walk in, closing the door on your way in.
”Be quick! I gotta take a piss!” You heard Ran shout back, chuckling as you replied with a ‘yeah’.
Thus you were now brushing your teeth, taking your sweet time as you hummed a song, the lyrics long forgotten.
”Are you done in there yet?! I’m so close to peeing myself I might as well use your stupid cactus plant!” Ran yelled from the other side of the door, pounding on it to get you attention.
You hummed, spitting out the toothpaste as you rinsed your mouth, shouting a quick ‘come in’ before the door was yanked open, a slightly panicked Ran hurrying inside, hand on his zipper as he began to take off his pants.
”My, at least wait until I leave to strip.” You teased, chuckling as he rolled his eyes, turning his back to you.
”Yes well it’s either me stripping or peeing myself, you can choose which you prefer princess.” Ran muttered, pulling his briefs down as you sighed, turning around as you headed for the door.
”I’ll be in the kitchen, come when you’re done.” You said, walking out of the bathroom as you heard him reply, “Yes ma’am.”, his tone suggestive.
Walking into the kitchen, you slipped open the curtain from the window, squinting when the light hit your eyes. You grabbed two mugs, turning on the kettle as you got to work, hearing the distant flush of the toilet.
”Oho? Your not even going to feed your starving boyfriend? What are we, on a diet?” Ran joked, coming to stand behind you, watching as the water filled the mug, turning a light yellow colour as the tea leaves dyed it.
You turned around to face him, an eyebrow raised as you gave him a mug, “It’s 1pm Ran, we’re not eating breakfast.” You said, his grin faltering in mock sadness, eyes droopy and teary.
“But I wanted to eat your pancakes.” He mumbled, his chin coming to rest on your head, a small smile falling onto your lips as you reached to pat his cheek.
”Mhm, sad indeed. Now go sit in the living room and drink your tea like a good boy.” You said, turning your head to look up at him, his gaze already fixed onto your face.
”Eh, where are you going?” He asked, tugging at your shirt as you began to walk away, watching as you turned your head to face him, both of your eyebrows raised in an unimpressed stare.
“To get a hair brush, your hair is a mess.” You responded, reaching to tangle your fingers in the messy hair, the locks slightly wavy from the braids he always wore.
He hummed, leaning into the touch, eyes closed as he smiled, “If you can do that, I think it’s fine.” He mumbled, eyes popping open as your fingers got stuck on a tangle, making him jolt in pain as you tugged it slightly, smiling apologetically once you realized it had hurt.
“I’ll be quick so wait for me on the couch.” You said, removing your hand from his hair as you turned around, lightly pushing him in the desired direction, shaking your head fondly as he stumbled, blinking slowly before continuing to walk.
You went back into your room, fetching the hair brush which sat on your nightstand, before returning to the living room, approaching Ran as he opened his arms and legs, making space for you to walk into his embrace.
You sat yourself down, his legs sandwiching you and his chin finding the top of your head agin.
“You know, it always hurts when you brush my hair.” Ran said, an eyebrow raised in amusement as you looked up, knocking his head off of yours, an offended look on your face.
”No I don’t! You almost fall asleep every time I do your hair!” You exclaimed, watching as he shook his head, a teasing smile pulling at his lips as he continued, “I am simply closing my eyes to hide the tears in them.” He responded, voice decorated with faux sadness.
You reached to pull on his hair, Ran wincing as he rubbed his scalp, “If you continue lying, I might not braid it today.” You responded, amusement flickering in your eyes at the shock on his face.
“First you wound me and then you threaten me? I’m starting to think that Rindou was right about you all along.” Ran said, a smile ghosting his lips.
You raised a brow, twisting your body in his arms, now facing him as you got closer to his face, his breath fanning your face, “Oh yeah? And what does Rindou think of me, pray tell, Ran~“ You said, singing his name quietly, a smile on your lips as you watched him smirk.
”That you are a mean women who’s only goal in life is to make others miserable.” He replied, voice dropping to a mere whisper as he used his seductive voice, lips grazing your ear.
You shivered, darting away at the ticklish feeling. “If that’s your idea of flirting it’s not working. I hope you don’t pick up girls like this normally.” You teased, leaning back in as he snickered, “And here I thought I was going to woo you.” He joked back, eyes crinkling as he grinned.
“Oh how bad I feel, to have ruined such delicate plans, my love.” You teased, hands finding his hair again as you lightly raked your fingers through them, avoiding knots.
You grabbed the brush, bringing it to the ends of his hair as you began to brush it slowly, smiling as he shut his eyes, lips pulled in a content smile.
You began to hum again, softer than before, working on untying the knots softly, fingers brushing and holding the hair as you worked, Ran’s hand finding your waist as he rubbed at the shirt, sliding under it to trace patterns on your skin, his thumb ghosting along your skin.
Placing the brush down beside you, you cupped his face, both hands gently holding his cheeks as you turned his head to the side, grabbing the sectioned piece of hair as you split it in three, beginning to braid the silky locks, your finger slipping in and out of his hair to make tight braids.
“Is this fine?” You whispered, continuing to lightly tug at the hair as you continued to braid it, humming when Ran nodded, his fingers wondering beneath your shirt, the fingers loving and exploring.
He murmured something, continuing to explore the skin under your shirt, your eyebrows furrowing as you tied the hair at the end of the braid together, fastening it before placing it behind his shoulder, hands moving his face again, but this time to face you.
”What did you say, I didn’t understand.” You whispered, watching as his eyes fluttered open, landing on your lips before moving to your eyes.
”I said it feels nice.” He muttered, his voice slightly slurry as he relaxed into the couch more, head dropping into your shoulder as he kissed the crook of your neck.
“Oh, that’s good to hear. Think you can hold off on dozing off until I finish your other braid?” You asked, feeling him nod against your neck as he slowly pulled off, head turning to the other side as you grabbed it, sectioning it into three parts.
”Have you let Rindou know that you’re here?” You murmured, fingers working to finish the braid, tugging when they need to.
Ran nodded, head slightly moving as he hums, “Yeah, before I left I told him I might stay overnight.” He murmured, voice drowsy and deep.
You smiled, finishing the braid off as you tied the end, patting his head lightly, “That’s good. I’ll call him and tell him that you’ll be home late okay?” You whispered, reaching to pull at the braids, making them looser.
”Thanks.” Ran mumbled back, head turning back to rest in your neck as he sighed, his finger coming to a stop as they draped over your hips.
”Goodnight, Ran.” You whispered, turning your head to kiss him, lips lingering on his forehead.
”Night, Y/n.”
