Work Text:

You open the door to see two little boys. One’s dressed in a Spider-Man costume and the other looks like a mummy. “Trick or treat!” They squeal. Peter pokes his head around you and grins.

“Awesome costume dude!” The kids’ mouths drop open as they realize they’re in the presence of the actual Spider-Man. “Hey Y/N, could you take a picture of us?”

You stifle a laugh and take a picture of Peter posing with his spider twin.

“Great!” he says, standing up and looking at your phone. “Here.” He reaches into the bowl of candy and gives both boys candy, although the one dressed as him definitely got more (Meaning about half the bowl). Both boys beam brightly before dashing off to the next door.

“You can’t just give kids more candy for dressing up like you. And aren’t you supposed to be on floor 28?” you ask him after you shut the door, giving him a semi-stern look.

“Technically, but I wanted to come visit you. And why can’t I give kids more candy?”

“Because it’s not fair! And besides, I’d run out of candy way too fast, seeing as how there’s already been about five Spider-Mans. Spider-Men?”

“Spider-Mans. And there has? None as cute as me though, right?”

You roll your eyes. “I don’t know, there was a baby that was pretty cute. I might switch you out.”

“Ouch. What about you? You can’t tell me you didn’t give extra candy to the kids dressed up as Delphi.”

“I didn’t, because nobody dressed up as Delphi. What would that costume even look like? Glasses and a messy bun?”

“And a little laptop. Come on, Y/N, it’d be so cute!”

“Fine. If somebody miraculously shows up dressed as me, I’ll give them extra candy. But you can’t, because I want to eat some of this.”

He gasps, pulling off his mask so you can see his face. “And so the truth comes out.”

“I’m too old to go trick-or-treating, and I need to stay on this floor. I need some way to get candy.”

“Excuse you, we will never be too old to go trick-or-treating. Go put on a costume, we’re going out.”

“I don’t have a costume,” you say slowly, a bit bewildered. “And anyway, where would we go? The whole point of having a Halloween party here at the tower was so people wouldn't have to go out to trick-or-treat.”

“Hm.” He taps his chin for a second, then his eyes light up. “Hold that thought.”

He dashes out of the room and over to the elevator. You give candy to three more groups of kids before he comes back, carrying two white sheets. “Ta-da!” he says, dramatically spreading a sheet over your head. He adjusts it so that your eyes match up with the two holes he had cut into the fabric before donning his own makeshift costume. “If we walk on our knees nobody will know we’re over ten.”

You bite back a laugh. “Did you get bags?”

“Yep!” He pulls out two pillowcases. “We’d better fill these both to the top or else we’re getting different costumes and trying again.”

The tower is set up so that kids can go trick-or-treating on seventy of the floors, with the top thirteen floors off limits. Avengers were spaced every fourth floor; You were on the fourth, T’challa on the eighth, Rhodey on the twelfth, and so on until the eightieth, which had Tony. Thor had even convinced Carol and the Guardians to come down for the night, to your surprise. You had figured that they would be too busy saving the universe, but apparently the superhero business in space was slow for the time being.

“Should we skip the doors with Avengers?” You ask as you approach the eighth floor.

“No, Sam has full sized KitKats. We’re going to all the doors.”

You have several close calls as you make your way up, the worst when you get to Natasha’s door. She’s dressed as a black cat, and raises an eyebrow as she gives you the candy. “Good costumes. But be careful, malen’kiye pauki. I’m not sure you’ll fool the real ghosts.”

She shuts the door, leaving you both to look nervously at each other. “What did she mean? Do you think she knows?” asks Peter.

“Oh, undoubtedly. Let’s go faster.”

You hurry up through the last few stories, glad that Natasha was the third to last avenger, before Steve and Tony. You only had thirty minutes before the event closed and you would have to go back.

Finally you get to the last door, which Peter knocks on. Tony opens it, and Natasha’s warning clicks into place as you see he’s a ghost. “Treat-or-treat!” You hold your breath as Tony looks over your disguises, eyes narrow. But then he gives you both some Skittles and you sigh in relief. At least until you turn around and accidentally step on Peter’s costume, pulling it to the ground. You both look back at Tony, eyes wide. He rolls his eyes.

“You were this close to the end. This close,” he says, putting his thumb and forefinger slightly apart. He sighs. “I didn’t see anything. Skedaddle.”

You quickly throw the sheet over Peter’s head before grabbing his hand and dashing to the elevator. You get inside and collapse to the ground laughing, glad Peter had decided to drag you out of your room.

Notes:

I absolutely adore Halloween, and I'm honestly sad I've had such bad writers block so I didn't write more this month
