Happy Accident

Work Text:

“Not again! Why can’t I ever get this one right?” you said in disbelief at your third failure.

You heard the knob to Satan’s room turn. Is he back already? He had left you in his room while he went to go grab a reference book from the house library. Considering the size of the library you thought he would be gone a little longer, but knowing Satan, that was a foolish thought.

“Ah,” you grabbed the top of your head and turned away as the door opened.

“I’m back, I was able to find the book pr-” Satan cut his sentence short when he saw you. “What’s wrong? Why are you standing like that?”

“Wait, don’t come over here,” you said when you hear his footsteps draw closer.

Too late, he was already right behind you, so close you could feel his breath on your neck when he whispered.

“You know,” he started in a quiet, but teasing tone. “Even if you hide your ears, I can still see your tail.”

You suddenly feel a very foriegn sensation that makes you see red. You turn and strike with an open hand, which the demon easily catches just before you make contact.

“So you’re the type of cat who doesn’t like their tail touched. Noted,” he says with a small chuckle.

“Ah, sorry!” you said pulling your hand back.

“It’s alright. I’m not surprised that you got cat characteristics along with your new body parts,” Satan responded as he looked over his shoulder at the mess on the table. “I take it you messed up the elixir again? On top of that you managed to spill it on yourself… again?”

“I just can't get the elixir of cerebral stimulation right,” you said with a huff.

“Does it really make you that angry?” Satan asked.

“What makes you think I’m angry?” you asked back.

“Your ears are back and your tail is twitching all over the place,” he answered, pointing at your tail. “When you’re part cat, I can read you like a book.”

Ha,” you rolled your eyes at the book joke, but you were stopped short by a sudden sensation on your ear.

Satan had reached behind one of your ears and gently stroked it. Your eyes fluttered shut in the middle of your attempt to roll them at him. You turned your head and leaned into his hand so it was easier for him to reach.

“There, do you feel a little better?” he said gently.

His voice seemed to shake you from your trance and you snapped your head back up, “Stop that!”

“I guess not. So finicky,” he said with a light laugh. “I enjoy discovering what kind of cat you are.”

“Satan!” you narrowed your eyes at him, but he just ignores you and walks over to sit on his bed.

“Come here,” he pats on the bed next to him.

“Ha, you’ve mistaken me for a dog! Cat’s don’t come on command,” you said, turning your head up at him.

The sound of Satan clicking his tongue pulled your attention back to him. When you looked over he was pointing right at you.

What is he doing? He didn’t say anything, he just pointed at you. You walk closer trying to figure out what he’s up to, but he still says nothing no matter how close you get. Without thinking about it you draw your face close and touch your nose to his finger.

Satan pulls his hand back and laughs, finally breaking the straight face he’s been holding, “I can’t believe that worked!”

“What was that?!?” You looked at him confused.

“Oh don’t you know,” he said, putting his hand to his chin. “If you point at a cat, they can’t help but touch their nose to your finger. Oh and look at that, it seems you did come to me after all.”

You put your face in your hands, “Satan, please, can you just make the antidote already?” You could feel your tail swishing behind you, “this is really embarrassing.”

“Oh come on, let me have a little more fun,” he said, grabbing your wrist to pull you to sit beside him.

Once again you swung your available open hand at him, but this time when he tried to grab it he missed and you slapped his arm hard.

“Ah! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. It’s like my body has a mind of its own,” your ears folded down as you apologised.

Satan looked at his arm annoyed, then back at you, “And how are you going to make it up to me?”

You promptly sat down on the bed next to him, swallowed your pride and put your head on his knee. Taking a moment to push down your embarrassment you let out the cutest meow you can muster.

There’s no way he could still be upset after that right? You turn your head to try to see his face, but he’s covering it with his hand, his eyebrows furrowed.

Oh no, you plead with him by nuzzling your cheek to his leg, “I’m really sorry, please don’t be mad.”

You feel his hand caress your ear, “I wasn’t actually mad, I was just teasing you, but I didn’t expect you to- to…”

As he trailed off you looked back up at him and noticed he was bright red. The hand that was previously covering his face and was now on your ear, was meant to cover up his blush, not to hold back his anger. You felt your own embarrassment bubble back up and you turned your face back towards his knee to hide your own blush. If he wasn’t mad at you, then you did all that for nothing.

Satan let out a laugh, “You’re upset again?”

You heard the thud of your tail on the bed, but before you could say anything he started to rub your ear in a way that just melted all your thoughts away.

“I promise I’ll make the antidote, but can you indulge me for just a little bit longer?” he asked gently.

Finally giving in you nodded, “You know, you’re really good with cats.”
