Shark Week: Pietro Maximoff

Summary:

Pietro discovers you (his nurse while he had been recovering from Sokovia) holed up at work at the Avengers facility and helps you deal with your severe period symptoms.

Notes:

My friends and I have a codeword for our periods: Shark Week. Because it feels like tiny sharks are gnawing us from the inside out and we bleed for a week to prove it.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Your day as a nurse at the Avengers facility was going just fine, thank you. You were right on track; patients (banged up agents) were taken care of and discharged, the exam rooms were cleaned, and the observation ward was tidied.

Then, WHAM, your period blind-sided you with a vengeance. Within 20 minutes you went from a-okay to heaving into a nearby hand-wash station to sliding down to the floor of an empty overflow room, cramps stabbing through your abdomen like a knife.

"________...?" A familiar, eastern European voice called your name. Why did he have to come down here looking for you today of all days? Pietro Maximoff called your name again in the observation ward, confusion and disappointment coloring his voice.

However, another cramp tore through your lower stomach, pulling a whimper from your lips. One that he heard.

"_________? Anhel*?"

You prayed he would not find you. You did not want him to see you like this. But the onset of yet another cramp had you biting your lip to keep your cry in. A tear escaped the corner of your eye and slid down your face.

The door jerked opened. "Anhel?" He looked around and quickly spotted you. He took in your pale face, your huddled position as you clutched your stomach, and the tear tracking down your cheek in the space of a heartbeat. "Anhel!" He rushed to your side. "What's wrong?"

All you could do was moan as you rode out another cramp.

"It's your period isn't it." He said with such understanding that you opened your tight squeezed shut eyes to look up at him.

"...How...How do you know about shark week?"

He chuckled at your euphemism. "I have a sister."

"Oh, right."

"You need to go home and go to bed, Anhel."

You shook your head. "Too late. I wouldn't be able to drive at this point, even if I wanted to."

"Dang." he shook his head, "And they haven't cleared me for speeding yet."

"It's okay." you grounded out. "I'll just hole up in here and ride it out."

"Scooch."

"What?"

"If you are going to stay in here, then scootch up," he answered, motioning for you to move away from the wall.

"Why?"

"Please?"

You were in too much pain to argue. "Okay," you complied.

He slid in behind you, leaning back against the wall, his knees up so that you were sitting between them. Gently, he put his arm around you and pulled you back against him so that you were laying back against his chest. "I've got you, Anhel," he whispered, pulling a blanket that he grabbed off one of the spare beds over you.

You tried to keep quiet, biting your lip to hold your moans of pain in, but the silent tears that slipped down your cheeks betrayed you. Pietro wiped them away with his sleeve, whispering sweet nothings in both English and Sokovian to you, combing his fingers through your hair.

Soon your painkillers finally began taking effect and you drifted off on his chest, your head resting back on his shoulder.

He did not try to pick you up or wake you. He was staying, letting you slumber against him, just holding you close.

Of course, when he was missing from his room for more than fifteen minutes, a facility-wide man-hunt began, but Pietro did not care.

When Tony finally found him, two and a half hours later, he mutely refused to budge. His anhel needed him, and he was not about to leave her anytime soon.

Notes:

* Anhel: phonetic spelling of the Ukrainian word for "angel". Since Sokovia is an eastern European nation, I picked a language that is geographically close to where Sokovia is supposed to be.
