March - 2015
Hinata never through he would be one in those situations. He always thought that those kinds of things only happened in the dramas his mom watched all the time. But there he was, fatefully, in his last day of his 3rd year of high school.
His fate, already decided, at least the next two years of his future were. But today, as happy as your “high school graduation!” Is supposed to be, the boy could barely muster up a smile, he could barely Joe around and tease Kageyama, or help Yachi and Yamaguchi with the crying underclassman that were sad they were leaving, he couldn’t even bother to fully listen to Tsukishima’s sassy jokes.
Neither could you.
Today was supposed to be a big day, a happy day, a day where all six of you were going to give the first step into your lives, but all Hinata could do was stare at you lonely, his heart burning with melancholy, in his mouth a sour taste.
Both of yo knew that the day would eventually arrive, you two knew of this from your second year of high school, his decision was carved in the stars, but the two fo you decided to live life the best you could, basking into each other’s presence as much as possible, afraid of what the future holds.
The future, seems almost ironic, counting that “the future” was nothing more than graduation day, the exact same day as today.
He was going to Brasil, travel across the world, and you were staying there, your future bright with your name practically written in the sky above Tokyo University.
Two years, he was going to be gone from your life for two years, with no guarantee, that it’s only two years, and it hurt, it hurt so much that you weren’t sure what to do exactly.
So after a bunch of fake smiles, genuine tears (although Hinata was a little confused in what the tears were for, he didn’t know if his own tears were from joy or melancholy), and so many hugs that he lost count, he even got to see his upperclassman there and for that Hinata couldn’t be more proud to where he was and the path he choose to follow in high school.
But now he stood with you, under the shade of a pretty tree, you sat down by his side, more quiet than he had ever seen you, but it wasn’t like he was talking much like usual, if anything, he was the one more out of character than the two of you.
The silence seemed almost impenetrable, that was, until yo let out a small chuckle, humorless, “we knew this would happen” you said glancing down at the grass, not daring to look up to him, he sighed also glancing down, “we did”
“And honestly, I’m not sad that you are going” you said, finally taking enough courage to glance up, but not at him, contrary to Hinata who stared at your side, eyes a little wide with curiosity, “I’m really really glad and proud that you are following your dreams Shōyō” you smiled a little, looking ahead of you longly.
He was surprised that you said that with such composure, you seemed so mature, he barely even recognized you, “And I really hope that you achieve everything you’ve ever wanted” that was when you finally looked at him in the eye, your eyes brimming with tears and your smile shaky.
Hinata gingerly took your hands, trying his absolutely best to not cry again, both of your eyes were a little puffy from crying earlier either way.
He whispered your name, his eyes soft as he looked at you, you looked at him, trying your best to memorize every little thing on his face, hoping you would never forget him, the best time of your life.
Hinata could barely mutter any words without his voice sounding shaky, but at the time he couldn’t seem to care, yo were the most important thing in his life, and he would make sure that you knew that “wait for me” he whispered out, placing his forehead on yours, by now tears ran freely on your face as did his.
“Wait for me, please” he whispered again, “I promise I’ll be back to you in no time”
“I’ll wait for you”
November - 2018
Hinata’s smile had never been brighter, he was back home, he was playing with people that he knew and held dearly close to his heart, he was playing the sport he loved so dearly, and he was good enough to have people talking about him.
But most importantly, he was back to you again.
At ay point he scored in one of the most important games of his life (for him at least), he couldn’t help but to look at you, with you sitting on the stands, a huge smile painted on your face as you cheered for him.
It felt right again.
He would never trade anything for the time he had spent on Brasil, but the void that remained on his heart from being away from you, was only filled when he’s around you in your presence and for that he was forever grateful for you.
When the game ended, Hinata felt a little giddy, happy to finally be back and to be welcomed by many of his old friends, happy that he reached high enough to be competing with the person who challenged him the most.
But right now, all he was looking for, was you.
You were still there, looking at him with the utmost care and love in your eyes, just like you did all those years back. He walked closer to the stands as he could, and shouted “wait for me! I’ll be right there”
He watched as you laughed, catching his corny intentions, nodding before you watched him rush towards the changing rooms.
A smile perpetually watched on his face. He had never felt so glad that you waited for him.
