finger promise

Summary:

Sunny got a paper cut on his ring finger!

Work Text:

Sunny stumbled through the drawers of the house hurriedly looking for something, which had caught Basil's attention away from the houseplants he was tending to.

"What are you looking for?" Basil asked as he leaned over to see where Sunny is, currently on his tiptoes attempting to look into an overhead cabinet.

"Where did we keep the band-aids?"
That was enough for Basil to drop whatever he was doing and come up to Sunny. "Why, what happened?"

"I accidentally gave myself a paper cut," he said, exasperated. He showed Basil his ring finger on his left hand, where there was a small, yet bleeding cut just right above the knuckle.

"Oh, that's not good!"

Basil immediately snatched his wrist to look at the injury. "It's fine. It's only mildly annoying, just get me the band-aid."

Basil dragged Sunny by his wrist over to their first aid box, opening up the lid to reveal all sorts of ailment treatments, band-aids, antiseptics, and cotton pads. Sunny used to complain about having to buy supplies for this little box, but accidents do happen from time to time, and he found himself being grateful that he kept it around.

Sunny picked up one of the band-aids and opened up its wrapper, but Basil stopped him from opening up the adhesive covers.

"We have to clean that up first," he insisted. Sunny groaned. "It's just a small cut, it'll be fine."

"It'll heal faster if we clean it up."
There was no winning against Basil's nurturing spirit as he was already taking out cotton pads. He pressed one of them multiple times into Sunny's cut to clean the blood off, which stings just a little. But he's a grown up now, so he could suck that one up and keep his cool.

Oh god, he's pouring antiseptic onto the cotton pads. His paper cut tingled even more just looking at what he's doing. Basil lifted his hand up by his palms, and only then did he notice that Sunny was visibly grimacing from what was coming. Sometimes he's not too good with hiding his expressions.

"Well, this is going to sting a little."

He amusedly warned Sunny as he lowered the cotton pad onto the cut. His body tingles all over waiting for the alcohol to be rubbed onto his wound, and Basil wasn't wasting any time to press the pad onto his ring finger.

"Ow, ow ow ow ow ow ow ow." Sunny couldn't resist wincing in pain, enough that it was making Basil cringe too, knowing how much that would've stung. The smaller the cut, the more it hurts. It didn't last too long, thankfully, and with a couple of more wipes, the wound was cleaned up, and the bleeding stopped.

"Come on, it's nothing." Basil laughed at his reaction in hindsight as he discarded the cotton pad. "The hell it is."

"You can put the band-aid on now."

He placed back the first aid box into the shelf and left Sunny to put the plaster on his own.

He takes off the adhesive covers of the sticky parts on the bandage and places the absorbent pad onto the wound. However, it's a little tricky to properly loop the adhesive area around his ring finger, and he struggled to get a decent and firm wrap around the wound, as his attempts would make it crease and let air inside. After one too many tries, the adhesive wore out and they would no longer stick properly.

"Ah, I messed up," he groaned as he picked up another band-aid.

"Come give me that, Sunny."

Basil interrupted him and held him by his ring finger, gently, with a very intent look in his eyes. Sunny splayed his fingers to give room for Basil to wrap the plaster around his ring. They were both quiet during the whole process, no quips or complaints as Sunny could feel Basil's soft breathing, slowly administering the adhesive and wrapped them around.

"Done."

It was firmly stuck onto the finger, no folds or creases, and that kept things from getting underneath the bandage. Sunny moved his fingers about to get the feel of having a stiff bandage wrapping around his ring finger, before nodding in satisfaction. Basil was just about to return to whatever he was doing, before Sunny stopped him.

"What is it?"
He picked up another band-aid and opened it up. "Give me your hand," Sunny asked.

"Why?"

Not wanting to waste any more time with what he's planning to do, Sunny snatched his wrist anyways, and grabbed his ring finger, before wrapping the bandage around it.

"Look. It's like we're married."
He giggled as he admired both of their rings. Basil immediately blushed, realizing what he had been doing the entire time. "What are you talking about?! You're wasting band-aids!" Basil stomped back towards the pots of houseplants in the house while Sunny hugged him from behind.

"Noooo, don't take it off, my darling!" He begged as he laughed.

"Get off me!" Annoyed, Basil pressed his finger onto Sunny's bandaged cut. "Ow, ow, ow, ow!"
The stinging pain was enough for Sunny to let go of him, flailing his wrist around exaggeratedly to cast the pain away.

"I'll get you next time!"

Sunny chimed, as he ran back to his room, leaving Basil alone in the living room again.

He chuckled, as he ran his finger down the band-aid wrapped around his ring with a smile.

"Married, huh…?

You already got me."
