Chapter 1: A night at the pumpkin patch
It was almost Halloween night in Mistrial and everyone was preparing for spooky season. Houses and farms decorated to give out the bone chilling atmosphere to any trick or treater alike that would challenge themselves to enter to retrieve the sweet treats. It wasn't any different in the Pine household, as they too were preparing for the occasion.
Oscar's aunt Em was outside with Tai, Qrow, Robin, and Raven. They were just finishing up putting the final touches to the outside of the barn by putting up some lights to make the place inviting to be around. Once everything was set up Em looked at everything and smiled with pride at the hard work she and the rest of them did together.
"I'm very impressed with how this looks", Em said with a smile on her face.
"I agree. I love how we have two carved pumpkins next to each farm door to make it magical.", Tai said impressed at the decorations as well.
In front of the barn had a few sets of tables neatly decorated with black and orange table cloths, some witch pot decorations in the middle of each with some arranged seasonal flowers (courtesy of both Oscar and Tai) inside and some pieces of candy sprawling all over each table. Each one had some black fold up chairs to go with everything there and to top it off, some fake spider webs and some pumpkin themed lights were on each opened farm door. Inside of the farm, they had a dj set there with big speakers on each side with a dance floor ready to go!
"Remind me to give you a ring Em for future decoration projects. I really like how this was planned out." Robin complimented Em, earning a warm smile by the farm woman.
"With how this looks I highly doubt this kids will ever consider going to sleep at night. Not to mention the you can eat food all the desert made by everyone.", Qrow jokingly said earning some laughs from everyone and his sister rolling her eyes at him.
"Speaking of kids.....where are they? I haven't seen much of them since the early afternoon." Raven asked curiously to everyone.
"Oh! They all were getting thier costumes on from what I remembered last time I saw them. I suggested to my nephew to show them around the neighborhood and get some candy with everyone for fun while we were setting up here!" She said happily rembering how excited he was to show everyone around his hometown.
"I'll head on over to the Dj area and put on some relaxing Halloween tunes to this. By the way is Ruby's cake safely hidden?", Qrow asked Em as he was about to head on over to the area.
"Yes sir! It's safe and sound! Don't think for a second I haven't forgotten about the birthday girl's cake!" Em said. "I even made it to her favorite flavor based on what Oscar had told me as well!"
"I wonder if those two ever decided to be more than just friends after all that had happened with Salem." Robin questioned outloud causing everyone to stop and look at her with either curiosity or glaring.
Raven groans at Tai and Qrow's immaturity. "Careful Robin you don't want to upset the mom's of this girl. They get so cranky at the thought of a boy getting near her." She said sarcastically earning a laugh from the ladies present.
"As if my nephew is going to do any harm that sweet amazing girl of yours!" Em said crossing her arms at the men invfront of her, the inner sass taking form of the woman. "I know I showed him how to treat a lady right growing up. Seeing him return with you all definitely showed that despite big changes he'd made within himself, he's still the same sweet, awkward boy I came to love the minute he came into this world."
Tai and Qrow sighed in defeat knowing better than to try to argue with Em here. Everyone heard some footsteps approaching to the barn. They all turned to see team RWBY, Whitely, and team ORNJE coming towards them. All seem to be in whatever conversation was going on and laughing, thier bags filled with treats of all kinds! The entire group decided to either be solo or pair up with someone in some Halloween spirit outfits! Yang and Blake decided to do a wild west outfit, Nora and Ren went for a Japanese folklore style outfits, Jaune and Weiss thought to go for a knight and princess kind of theme (Ruby definitely teased the hell out of Weiss for it), Whitely thought it would be fun to try a pirate themed outfit with Emerald, and Ruby and Oscar went for a darker version of Alice in Wonderland as Alice and the Made Hatter.
Everyone stopped for a moment to gasp or awe in excitement seeing the beautiful decorated farm. Oscar was the first to speak up looking at the adults in front of them.
"Wow you all went all out for this!" Oscar said as he approached his aunt and hugged her.
"Your aunt definitely has a great vision when it comes to decorating." Qrow said as he crossed his arms. "Had a fun day out everyone?" He asks them all earn a smile from everyone.
"It was truly a breathtaking experience.", Blake said smiling.
"Going through the "scary" houses was so much fun!", Yang said as she took off her hat to fan herself from all the walking they went through.
"Seeing all the little kids in costumes was super adorable!", Weiss exclaimed happily rembering when Jaune and herself helped a lost child find thier group.
"Expirencing this occasion for the first time was truly something to remember.", Whitely said smiling widely at the pranks that both Emerald and Nora pulled on some of his older sister's friends.
"So uh not to cut this but....", Nora interrupted as she smelled the air to catch a glimpse of the scent of some meatloaf. "Do I smell food? Because I'll be dammned if anyone tried to steal 20 plates of good food!" She said excitedly ready devor the food made by everyone.
Ren sweat drops at the thought of it. "Nora....I don't think anyone with fight you on it." He said laying his hand on her shoulders to avoid her getting too excited over food.
Em giggles at Nora's hyper spirit. "Well it isn't just there to go cold. Please go ahead and grab some food! Take as much as you need.", Em said then turned to Weiss and Whitely. "Say by chance, is your mother and older sister Winter going to visit later on? I would hate to have them miss out on this party." She asked them curiously with hint of concern.
"Rest assured Em, mother and Winter will come by later. They're just attending to some things in town really quick." Whitley said smiling softly at the kind woman.
Em sighed in relief hearing it from the youngest of the Scnee family. Emerald immediately passed everyone and grabs a plate.
"I don't know you all but I'm starving! Might as well dig in now before it disappears." Emerald says as she uses a spoon to grab some homemade casarole made by Oscar.
Everyone got in line and waited for thier turn for thier meal. Ruby was cheerfully humming happily at this little get together to celebrate both her favorite holiday and her birthday. She smiled remembering how her morning was starting out with waking up to a beautiful flower arrangement of roses and sunflowers with a bit of pine branches around them. The vase was a beautifully designed with red to match her name and golden vine accents around it with a hazel bow on top of the vase. There was a card next to it as well in fancy writing.
She picked it up, reading it and smiles widely seeing who gave them to her. She read the card loudly to herself as a small blush crept on her face
Good morning my sleepy little rose, happy birthday! Here's to many more birthdays I get to spend with you! I look forward to showing you around my home and celebrate this amazing day with you this year properly! Be ready for later on at night, I have a surprise for you.

Ruby Was caught up in her little dream when someone tapped her shoulder lightly causing her to yelp and looked who tapped her.
Jaune tried not to laugh at her suprised look."Sorry to distract you from whatever you were thinking of but the line long moved Ruby. Can we get food?" He asked giggling at the blushing girl. Oscar was already at the table with everyone else seeing the two still at the food table interact. He chuckles lightly having an idea as to what she was thinking of. He heard a cough at the table from one of the girls and turned to see everyone smirking at him. He immediately got shy and nervous knowing very well what they were going to ask him
"So it's finally done huh?" Emerald spoke to the small farm boy. "You ready for it?"
"I feel......very nervous but excited at the same time. I-I just hope she like it." Oscar said blushing looking down.
"It's going to be alright Oscar. I know she'll definitely love what did for her.", Weiss said smiling softly at him.
"My sister believe it or not has gone head over heals for you REGARDLESS of what she tells all of us. You're gonna be the Bees knees Oscar.", Yang said enthusiastically as everyone facepalmed at her unintentional pun she made at the end.
"We are here to support you no matter what." Ren said smiling at him and took a bit from his plate. Oscar took some deep breaths to calm himself down. Seconds later Jaune and Ruby joined them with thier food and chatted away with everyone.
After a delicious meal eaten and a yummy birthday strawberry shortcake later everyone was having a good time relaxing, chatting amongst each other, or dancing to some tunes on the dance floor. The sun was slowly setting sending out beautiful vibrant like colors to the sky. Ruby was enjoying her time with everyone, seeing both her uncle and dad smile again and interact with other people, Raven making a return to the family not only to make up for lost time, but to also to mend the bond she broke off with her bother and Tai, seeing her friends and sister happily doing fun things again and just being teenagers. She turned around to see her favorite farm boy approach her with his breathtaking dorky smile and hazel eyes that forever haunts her in the best way possible. She waves at him shy before crossing her arms together.
Oscar stops in front of Ruby and smiles nervously."Hey!"
"Hey there!" Ruby replies smiling back at him giggling at his expression.
"I hope you're enjoying your birthday here in Mistrial. Sorry if it isn't....fancy pansy." He said jokingly seeing Ruby laugh in response. Oscar extends his hand to her causing her eyes to widen and blush at his gentleman like gesture.
"Remember in the card how I mentioned I wanted show you something? Well I feel like it's time to do so. Care to join me?" He asked her, his mind screaming internally embarrassed at the words he had said to her surprising himself. He internally wonders if it really is him saying it or if Ozpin decided to sneak in for a moment to get him to saying without shuddering.
Ruby took his hand and smiles widely excited about his suprise he had planned out for her."Yes, yes a thousand times yes!" She says very enthusiastically blushing seconds later at her excitement. Oscar laughs and holds her hand. She holds his back, her smile never leaving. Seconds later he started to lead her into thier destination at full speed catching Ruby off gaurd and laughing as she runs with him to wherever he had planned to take her to.
Once he knew they were getting close, he slowed down the pace and asked Ruby to close her eyes. She closed them without hesitation, giggling as she feels the now taller male lead her to the place. Oscar carefully guided Ruby to the spot, getting more and more nervous by the minute. As soon as they arrive there he stops her. He let's go of her hand and eyes the girl before him.
"Alright Ruby it's safe to open them!" He said excitedly as she opens her eyes. Ruby was speechless at what she saw. There was haystack all around the dirt area. On most of the haystacks, there were carved pumpkins filled with all of thier allies emblems on each one and some silly looking pumpkins made for fun. She looked up to see a arched entery way that has fall themed decorations on them. All of this while being surrounded by the green pine trees and the moonlight shinning brightly with some beautiful stars.
"Oscar...." Ruby began to say, trying to find the words to say from all the beautiful scenery she's witnessing. "I.....How.....Wow......" she turns to him, trying not to tear up at this amazing gesture he did just for her. She instantly hugs him tightly, squealing of joy.
"Thank you, thank you,thank you! You're truly the best! Out of anything I could of asked for my birthday I never knew I needed something like this in my life!" She stated as she enters the area admiring more of Oscar's hard work.
Oscar sighs in relief as he enters behind seeing her smile in delight from his creation. He'll have to thank everyone later for letting him borrow thier pumpkins for the occasion. Slow calming romantic like music can be heard from a far. With another deep breath he clear his throat to capture her attention and silently offers her a dance with him. The wind softly blows some leaves around pass the duo. Ruby stares at him once more, smiling widely as she shyly accepts his offer and get into a dancing position.
"Nervous?" He asked her sensing Ruby getting a little tense.
"A-a little..." she admits softly looking down shyly to avoid herself to get lost into his warm hazel eyes. He gently squeezed her hand smiling softly at her.
"It's ok. I'll help you get into it. Just let me know when to stop." He told her calmly as she breaths out a breath she did realized she held.
The chill air around them blew softly, sending some leaves to dance along with them. The long distanced music continued on playing along as two teens clumsily, yet happily danced along to it. The lit up pumpkins surrounding them and the moonlight shinning brightly at the two being the only audiences they need to witness a moment like this.
"It feels surreal to me."Ruby began to speak up gaining Oscar's attention. "After dealing with the choas we endured thanks to Salem, I never would of thought that I'd grow to appreciate nights like these even further."
Oscar watches her expression sadden a bit remember the rough and difficult ear they encountered from her and remembering the people they lost along the way."It was definitely something none of us expected to happen at all. After years of finding ways to end it peacefully. I'm just so glad I got to spend in it with you." He said sincerely as they both stopped dancing, holding each other close and not letting go of each other.
"Out of all that has happened....I'm glad to have met you Oscar." Ruby said looking at him in the eyes. He felt his heart skip a beat hearing her say it blushes smiling at her as bright as the sun.
"I'm glad to have met you as well. Without you around I probably would of gone entirely insane and gain the many friendships I've encountered with everyone. You also believe that I could achieve more on my own than anyone else did and helped me gain a lot confidence in myself." He says as he gently caresses her cheek for a moment.
Ruby had shivers down her spine at his gentle, caring touch. She blushed at his compliment to her as she smiled adorably at him and stares into his comforting eyes.
"Ruby.....I just want you to know that I'm forever grateful to have you by my side. I.....I had loved the minute I first stared into your moonlit silver eyes in Haven." He gently presses his head on hers causing Ruby to blush even redder at his sudden confession and stares at him in suprise.
"I-i was wondering......will you go out with me? Because I can't see myself with anybody else. You're the most beautiful girl I've ever met and I'll be damned if I didn't suck up my courage to ask you out." He said quickly his face getting hotter by the minute.
"Oscar....." Ruby said speechlessly as she saw his eyes stare at her intensely and filled with love. She can feel herself get caught up into the moment as the music behind them was drifting away for a moment as she felt him getting closer to her as he gently pulls her closer to him. She lightly caresses his shoulders as thier lips became even closer to each other.
"I love you Ruby Rose." He whispered softly to her.
"I.....I love you too. And I'd be more than happy to go out with you." She whispered back to him as she smiled between his lips. He smiles back at her, his heart soaring that the girl of his dreams loved him back.
"This is the best birthday present a girl could ask for." She softly said before closing the space between the two entirely kissing slowly and softly as the pumpkins illuminated lightly their sweet and warm embrace, and the moon shining brightly at the young couple before it seeing the rosegarden finally in full bloom.
