Chapter Text
Forlisa was standing near the edge of the rooftop garden, looking out over the bustling city below. The sun was just starting to make its journey to the horizon, casting long shadows everywhere as the air started to cool just a bit. There was still a lot of traffic out on the harbor, which she could see even from this distance. She was remembering a trip she needed to make on the ferry next week when all of a sudden, the quiet struck her senses with a touch of panic. Forlisa’s smile faded as she turned around to try and find her daughter. She was nowhere to be seen.
The rooftop garden was full of shelves covered with potted plants of a variety of shapes and sizes, creating a lush maze that usually made it a serene getaway to visit in the middle of the city. It also made for many hiding places for a mischievous toddler, and Forlisa found herself hoping that she was just hiding, and hadn’t gotten into something poisonous. Or worse, decided to climb. That girl. She was born headstrong, and always wanted to test her. As Forlisa ran up and down the aisles looking for her, she caught a whiff in the air that she recognized. Turning to the left, she found the little brunette she was looking for. Her panic turned to anger when she saw her covered in dirt. “Vesca! What have you gotten into?”
The fair-skinned little girl looked up with big bright green eyes from where she was sitting in the dirt below a large potted tree. Her hands and facial ridges were covered in mud. She squealed with delight at seeing her mother, not realizing she was in trouble. She clambered up and toddled over to Forlisa, giving her a big dirty hug around the legs. Forlisa’s anger faded in a moment, and she began to chuckle to herself, as she lifted her beautiful, and filthy, daughter up into her arms.
