6 weeks.
It had been exactly 6 weeks since Ikjun had last seen Songhwa smile. Her smile that can literally light up his entire world.
It had been exactly 6 weeks since he stepped into her office, his shelter from his own rainy days because just seeing Songhwa will make his mundane days even better.
It had been exactly 6 weeks since he lost the glow that is constantly around him.
All because he could not keep his mouth shut.
He knew what he did was wrong. Perhaps unforgivable.
But he could not stand the thought of him chickening out once again, he could not stand the thought of seeing her in another guy's embrace - this time for the rest of their life.
He could not stand the thought that seeing his best friend, his first love walking down the aisle but it is not with him.
He could not stand the thought that he is not getting the forever ever after that he yearned the most with no one else but with her.
He should not have coolly said his congratulations when she told him and the rest of the boys that she is getting married.
He should not have ruined perhaps the happiest day in her life.
He should not have admitted that he loved her at the wedding.
But of course, his heart always triumph his head - and he did not think of the consequences when he stood up and objected the wedding. All he thought was how there was some chance that things could have worked out for the two of them in time.
Screw the thought of wrong person at the right time, it should be the right person at the wrong time, even if it is after 22 years.
A part of him wished that he could go back and slap himself silly to shut up and just accept the fact that Songhwa will never be his, and he should be contented to stay by her side as her best friend, like what he had done for the past 20 years. Like what he had envisioned the day he chickened out from his confession on Songhwa's 20th birthday.
As much as Ikjun wanted to deny it, he was glad that he took the dangerous plunge of announcing to the entire world that him, after all this time, is still much in love with his first love. He felt relieved that Songhwa now knows that he is willing to do anything and everything for her. The oceans that he would swim through, the worlds that he would burn for her - just because she is his Chae Songhwa.
