Chapter Text

Yeosang can't remember a moment in his life where he wasn't in love with Wooyoung. But could you blame him for that? How was he not supposed to fall in love with his best friend who according to him had the kindest heart and the most beautiful smile. Wooyoung was someone who could light up any room just by his presence. He was like the Sun sending warmth to everyone present around him. Yeosang though, was just the Moon, who was visible only for the light Wooyoung gave him as a radiance of his sunshine.

When they first met they were too young to even clearly remember it now but their mom say that Wooyoung’s family had moved in their neighbourhood a little after Yeosang’s family did and even though Yeosang was shy and did not have much friends then, it had not stopped the young bubbly Wooyoung from befriending Yeosang. Since then, Yeosang’s mom had given the little Wooyoung the responsibility to always take care of Yeosang and be beside him and till date Wooyoung had never for once fallen short on it.

“Yeosangie, come play with us” 10 year old Wooyoung would hold 10 year old Yeosang’s hand and bring him along to play with his other friends. “my best friend will also join us”  he would say.

Yeosang vividly remembers that one time when a boy named Jihyun had refused to take Yeosang in his team because it was already full.

“If Yeosang won’t play, then I won’t either” that’s what Wooyoung had said in response. Wooyoung was really excited to play the game and yet he had said that. Yeosang had felt special in Wooyoung’s life that day.

Since Wooyoung was the best player for that game, the kids had agreed to include Yeosang in the game as well even though they all hated to do it. It’s a different thing that Yeosang had eventually decided not to play since he didn’t want to offend any of them.

“Wooyoung-ah you play without me. I forgot to do my homework anyway. I’ll head home first”

“Yeosangie you don’t have to feel bad, I’ll come with you”

“No, I’m okay Wooyoungie. I know you love this game so you better win for me, okay ?”

Later that night Wooyoung had stayed over at his place and told Yeosang how he was the best player in the game and Yeosang should have seen him do that.

“I know you’re the best Young-ah. I don’t need to see it with my eyes to know it. I believe in you and I’m so proud of you always” Wooyoung smiled so brightly at him and that very moment Yeosang knew it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

That night while Wooyoung cuddled Yeosang, he slept peacefully because Wooyoung was happy and that’s all that had ever mattered to him.

Yeosang feels he had always been somehow dependent on Wooyoung. He thinks he wouldn’t have come so far if Wooyoung wasn’t there with him in every step he took in life. Wooyoung says it’s because of his hard work that he's come so far but Yeosang rarely takes credit anyways.

When Yeosang comes to think of it, not much has changed since then. Yeosang still is the shy kid with friends he could count on one hand and Wooyoung still is the social butterfly with as many friends that he must have lost count of. Yeosang’s mom still trusts Yeosang more in the presence of Wooyoung than him being alone because the world apparently is a scary place and Yeosang is too innocent for it.

If Yeosang had to be honest, he understands why his mother feels that way. He too trusts Wooyoung with his life on hand.He cannot even imagine someone else as his best friend if not Wooyoung. Yeosang only had Wooyoung. He is his safe place, his soulmate and probably his everything.

“Yeosangiee” Wooyoung's voice brings him out of his chain of thoughts.

“Do you really think I am not capable of loving someone?”

“No Young-ah, you know that's not true, right?” Yeosang said softly while stroking his head. Wooyoung was resting on his lap and cuddled close to him.

“I don't know Sangie. Every time I date someone they eventually leave me saying they know I don't love them” Wooyoung hugged him tighter and buried his head on Yeosang’s tummy.

“That doesn't make you incapable of loving Wooyoungie and I know how much love you have to offer to someone” Yeosang continued to gently stroke Wooyoung’s head, trying to give him comfort.

Yeosang still remembers that one time when he was asked by Wooyoung’s mother to look for his best friend. He tried the convenience store where they would usually run to buy snacks, he went to the game center where they just played the claw machine until they each got a toy, and to his house where Wooyoung might be hanging out in his room but Yeosang never found him.

He searched around the neighborhood and finally found a familiar back crouching on the ground. Yeosang could hear Wooyoung talking faintly and a box in front of him. He moved closer and saw that he was trying to feed a stray animal.

“If you won’t eat, your tummy will ache” Wooyoung said and offered the kitten inside the box a piece of his bread.

“Woo, you shouldn’t feed a kitten some bread” Yeosang crouched down beside him and petted the kitten.

“I don’t have any other food” Wooyoung pouted and looked at Yeosang with the softest puppy eyes.

“Hm then let’s find some milk for it?” Yeosang smiled gently at him and offered his hand.

“Okay!! Kitty stay here!!” Wooyoung took Yeosang’s hand and they ran together to look for milk.

Yeosang could still remember how soft Wooyoung’s hand was in his and how much he wanted to take care of the kitten they saw. He forgot about bringing Wooyoung back to his home as soon as possible so they both got scolded but just laughed it off after. Thirteen year old Wooyoung and Yeosang enjoyed their childhood together and every moment they shared were always with each other.

“I thought Mina was the one for me. You saw how serious I was for this relationship. I think she broke up with me because I forgot her birthday was today. She said it’s not about her birthday and that she’s not that petty but the reason she gave was so dumb” Wooyoung ranted on.

You've always been the one for me though

“What did she say?”

“She literally said that I shouldn't date anyone if I'm already in love with my best friend. I mean what kind of a dumb thought is that” Wooyoung properly positioned himself with his head still on Yeosang’s lap.

“Oh right it’s a dumb thought” Yeosang said dryly.

“See, you agree!! Because you and I as lovers, that's just impossible. I can never imagine being romantically involved with you. I'm sure you feel the same way, right?” Wooyoung looked up to Yeosang with a pout forming on his lips.

Are you sure tho?

Wooyoung I think you are forgetting something” Yeosang tapped Wooyoung lightly, signalling him to sit up.

“Didn’t you have your presentation today? I’m so sorry I totally forgot to wish you this morning. I swear I had put an alarm to wish you but I think I missed it. How did it go? I'm sure you aced it like always. Let me treat you with your favorite food” Wooyoung said frantically.

“Wooyoungie you didn't miss it. I turned it off yesterday itself because there is no point in you getting up in the morning just to wish me after you pulled an all-nighter because you didn't want me to feel alone while I worked” Yeosang smiled fondly at him, “But that's not what I meant when I said you forgot something”

“So did you mean our break up tradition?” Wooyoung’s face turned from panic to ease.

“You mean your break up tradition”

“Right mine coz my Yeosangie here never dates” Wooyoung grinned from ear to ear.

Wish I could

Well you date enough for both of us Youngie” Yeosang shook his head.

“I didn't hear anything. Anyways, you get the inside out movie ready and I'll bring the ice cream for us. Don’t forget the blankets, okay? It’s our movie night” Wooyoung got up and headed to the kitchen to get their ice cream ready while Yeosang sat there for a while thinking of what his best friend just said and sighed to himself. He has encountered people asking them if they are dating and the countless times that they denied it seemed silly to him but hearing it from Wooyoung for the 5th time around still hurts the same for Yeosang.

“Oh right, did you read Yunho’s message in the groupchat?” Wooyoung popped his head from the refrigerator and brought Yeosang out of his thoughts.

“Nope” Yeosang said and grabbed his phone.

Yunho:

Let’s meet up before class starts tomorrow!!

Mingi:

No. Why?

Yunho:

Shut up Mingi. So what do you say?

Wooyoung:

Okay!! I don’t see why not

Yunho:

Yay! We’ll all meet up then. At the school park?

Yeosang:

I didn’t even say anything yet

Mingi:

If Woo says okay then it’s an automatic okay with you too

Yunho:

Yup, like me and Mingi obviously

Wooyoung:

Definitely not like the two of you but yes

Yeosang locked his phone and took a deep sigh. He eventually finally got up to get their movie ready and brought the blankets after getting his heart shattered a little by reading Wooyoung’s reply.

“I’ve got the movie ready and the blankets” Yeosang returned back to the living room and gave the blankets to Wooyoung who was already sprawled on the couch.

“Finally!!” Wooyoung exclaimed with his mouth full and covered himself with the blanket like a burrito. He scooted a little bit for Yeosang to sit beside him and opened the blanket that he wrapped around himself inviting Yeosang to get in with him.

“I literally brought 2 blankets for each of us” Yeosang said but still shared that one blanket with Wooyoung.

“When did we ever need 2?” Wooyoung replied and cuddled closer to him.

“Keep quiet, it's starting” Yeosang shushed him but giggled at how silly they seemed, easing all the pain away that he felt just minutes ago.

Yeosang woke up alarmed by the noise from the kitchen at 5 in the morning. He rubbed his eyes and went to the kitchen to find Wooyoung covered in flour with egg shells on the floor. The kitchen was a disaster and Wooyoung was a mess. He slowly turned to Yeosang with his face full of flour and smiled brightly.

“Should I even ask?” Yeosang said and stopped himself from laughing at the sight.

“I was trying to make some pancakes for breakfast and the lights suddenly went out so I couldn’t see anything for a moment and then that happened” Wooyoung’s smile slowly turned into a frown.

“Aww what time did you even wake up? It’s still 6 in the morning” Yeosang cooed at him and grabbed a wet towel.

“I woke up around 4? And I couldn’t go back to sleep so I thought I should do something for you” Wooyoung chuckled and moved closer to Yeosang, “I know you grabbed that towel for me”

“Okay nevermind” Yeosang pretended to put the towel back into its place and chuckled when he saw Wooyoung pouting, “our baby Woo Woo making a mess of himself”

Wooyoung glared at him but warmed at the touch of Yeosang as he wiped the flour from his face and closed his eyes, “I hate you, at least I managed to cook us a pancake each”

“Yes yes so proud of you after the lights out disaster” Yeosang replied teasingly and focused on cleaning Wooyoung’s messy face. To Yeosang he could gather all the stars in the sky and still nothing will ever shine as bright as Wooyoung. Wooyoung held the stars in his eyes and Yeosang wanted to stargaze only to get lost in them. Yeosang could spend hours just admiring every little detail about him and falling in love with everything that meets his eyes. Wooyoung was truly so perfect to him. Everything about Wooyoung was laced with so much love and just by looking at him, Yeosang could feel so full.

“Hm?” Wooyoung opened his eyes and looked Yeosang in the eyes, “Is it okay now? I’ll try to cook two more pancakes for us”

“Do me a favor and clean the kitchen. I’ll cook” Yeosang laughed endearingly. He wanted Wooyoung to take a short rest even when he was the cook between the two of them.

"No way!! Remember when you almost got the kitchen on fire? I don't want to go through that again so I'll finish cooking and then you can clean the kitchen" Wooyoung said adamantly and lightly pushed Yeosang away from the stove.

"Fine. I'll get the table ready and the maple syrup" Yeosang smiled and began cleaning.

It were moments like these that made Yeosang love his mornings more even when he always feels groggy after waking up early. It was Wooyoung's presence alone that made his days and these simple gestures of his could turn his mornings into the best ones. He was so grateful to have Jung Wooyoung in his life.
