Chapter Text
"I thought you were quitting your job, why're you still in this 'hell hole'?" your attention was brought away from organising the horror shelves as Randy approached, he lent on the shelf, outstretching his hand in an offer to help you put the videos away.
"Yeah well," you started, hanging him half your pile of videos (the ones that were the furthest away from your current location), "I would need to find another job first. Mommy wouldn't be willing to give me pocket money like apparently everyone else in this place"
Randy couldn't help himself from letting out a small laugh, beginning to walk over to another shelf, "Did you just give me all the movies that aren't in the horror section? What movies do you have over there?"
Going through the videos in your hand, you began to read off the names of multiple classic horrors, "Friday the 13th, Psycho, Night of the Living Dead, Nosferatu, Dracula and Frankenstein"
"Didn't know this place had so many great pieces of cinema, I'm impressed," he paused what he was doing to look at you, "you know, there's a rule-set to horror movies! Number one! You may not survive the movie if you have sex!"
His raised voice caused multiple poor passersby to stare at him in utter confusion, a couple of parents covering their kid's ears before sending Randy a glare, who just shot you a sheepish smile, "No sex? Guess you're safe then, Randy."
"Huh? Like you can say anything!" he had brought his volume down to a loud whisper now, "We'd both be surviving in a horror movie, don't pretend".
Rolling your eyes, you put down the remaining videos and walked over, a snide smile pulling at your lips, "well at least my high-school sweetheart wasn't stolen away from me by Billy Loomis."
Randy feigned a look of hurt, putting his hand up to his heart and pretending he had just been shot, you couldn't quite tell if he was offended or not, but either way, he'd get over it pretty quickly - you weren't the only person who often teased him for missing his chance with Sidney Prescott, the most common offender was Stu Macher, although he seemed to be more aggressive towards Randy while everyone else took a much more playful approach.
"Whatever, I could have a shot with Sidney if I really wanted it," he mumbled, causing you to put a hand on his shoulder,
"I'm sure you could Rands, I'm sure you could".
The rest of your shift had been rather uneventful, occasionally bantering with Randy and a couple of your other teenage, underpaid co-workers. The hours always went by much slower than they would have, had you been sitting at home doing absolutely nothing, but if it meant you were getting a paycheck at the end of the month, you couldn't exactly complain.
"Right I'm heading off, I'll see you soon," you waved as you left the video store, excited to go home and procrastinate on your English project that you hadn't even started yet.
The thrills of teen life.
-----------------------------------
When the news came the next morning that Casey Becker and Steve Orth were found dead, hung from a tree and brutalised, you couldn't help the dread that built up in your stomach - this had to be some sort of sick prank, right? She'd turn up in your lesson with Stu (because he'd be the only one that could convince someone to do such a thing) laughing about how 'haha we got ya good!'.
You knew that was wishful thinking, but even the smallest amounts of hope were pushed away when you were called in for questioning by police; they asked you whether Casey had anyone who may have wanted to cause harm to her, and whether she'd been acting weirdly the last time you had seen her. As much as you wished you could've been of more help, you couldn't answer many of their questions with any sort of valuable information.
Walking through campus, you noticed some of your friends all sat together. Randy was the first to see you, beckoning you over to sit with them, "Hey get over here! We're just talking about," he lowered his voice to a whisper once you had walked over, gesturing for you to lean in, "‘you know what’".
Tatum lightly slapped his arm, "you're about as subtle as Stu, dumbass" she scoffed, "anyway how are you?"
Sitting down between her and Randy, you smiled at the blonde, "I'm okay, thanks, Tatum. I wonder who would've wanted to do such a thing to Casey, she was sweet," you mumbled, the others all agreeing.
"They ask you if you like hunting?" Stu piped up, mostly directing it towards Billy, who sat up from his position lying down behind Sidney,
"Yeah, they did. Did they ask you?"
Before Stu had the chance to respond, Tatum thought aloud, "Hunt? Why would they ask if you like to hunt?"
"'Cause they got gutted-"
"-Randy!" you cut him off, frowning at his somewhat offended expression. He had no idea what was deemed appropriate when or where. You'd rather listen to him talk about how virgins were 'safe from horror movies' or whatever his rules were.
You had tuned out of the rest of the conversation as Tatum continued to ask questions; it felt like they didn't seem to care all that much that Casey and Steve had been murdered, it was honestly a bit unnerving to watch Stu and Randy joke around as if it was just something that happened in a TV show.
"Hey! Come back to Earth!" you were shaken out of your thoughts by Stu snapped his fingers in front of your eyes, laughing as you looked around for context, "they were totally zoned out! Whatcha thinking about in that weird little mind of yours?"
Scrunching up your face at whatever insinuation Stu was trying to make, you shoved his face away,"Get your mind out of the gutter, Stu!"
"No can do sunshine," Billy chuckled, "Stu's mind doesn't exist anywhere outside of the gutter".
"God I feel bad for Tatum, how do you cope?"
Rolling her eyes, Tatum changed the subject back to whatever they had been talking about before, "so, Randy, your alibi?"
Scoffing, he couldn't help himself from raising his voice - as usual, "I already told you! I was working!"
"At the video store? I thought they fired your sorry ass?" Tatum smirked, only to be met by Randy's own grin,
"Twice. Anyway, my alibi is right here," he grabbed your shoulders roughly, shaking you back and forth a little bit, "we had the same shift yesterday so there's no way I coulda' killed anybody!"
You nodded, smiling at the look of sympathy Tatum gave you (which Randy noticed, not failing to point out that "there's nothing wrong with working with me!"), "Yeah if you think spending every day at school with him is bad, try having to listen to his constant horror movie spiels. He was specifically telling me about how he'd survive in a horror movie because he's a vir-"
Randy had promptly cut you off, shoving his hand onto your mouth as the others looked on in amusement, "I did not! Don't go giving these guys any false information about me either!" he cried, hand jolting away as you licked it, "Ew you tramp!"
"A tramp?" you laughed, "weren't you calling me a virgin yesterday?"
"Shut up!" Randy shouted, once again drawing the attention of the students around you, most of them whispering to each other and laughing at him, "I just said you'd survive a horror movie!"
"Actually I agree," Billy joined in, "you're probably the smartest out of the bunch of us. If I was watching a horror movie my bets would be that you were the person that could outsmart the killer and maybe even kill them".
Tatum agreed, adding on that, "I'd still be alive because they'd protect me!"
"Would I?" you chuckled, trying to ignore the uncomfortable feeling of being put into a hypothetical killer scenario right after discussing the death of your friend. Billy had always been a bit...weird? Creepy? You could never quite put your finger on it, but sometimes the way he looked at you - and other people, particularly Sidney - made you uncomfortable, like a piece of meat in front of a lion's den.
Pushing the thought away, you joined back into the conversation, "If we were in a horror scenario I definitely wouldn't survive, I'd probably be the first one to die"
"Well Casey beat you to that already"
"It's called tact you fuck rag!" Billy huffed at Stu's exclamation, you often wondered how the pair of them ever became friends - no outsider would put them together.
