The night was finally here. The one he always looked forward to every year. A night where he could be whoever or whatever he wanted. Oikawa readied himself in his dorm room, costume pieces strewn across the bed, desk, and open drawers. Cheap Halloween decorations littered every corner from bright orange plastic pumpkins and black paper streamers to candles that burned at all hours of the day. The scent was strong enough to permeate into the hallway, but at least his room smelled nice, which could not be said for most college athletes. On a typical night, Oikawa prided himself on having an orderly room, but tonight was Halloween and there was no time to put everything away, not when he was already late.
Students were flocking from the dorms to off-campus houses owned by various sports teams. It seemed that nearly every organization was having some form of rager this evening, filled with countless vats of jungle juice that would give even the most experienced drinker alcohol poisoning. Experience taught him that it was best never to ask what lingered in the depths of the multi-colored liquids, it would only make his stomach turn.
A majority of his day was spent cleaning the volleyball house, ensuring that here was enough room for a pong table and that the backyard was ready for drunken rounds of beach volleyball, a typical attraction for their parties. Inexperienced football players and baseball players always ended up challenging some of the house residents to a round or two. They got their ass kicked every time. It was well worth the hours of backyard cleanup, sweeping leaves, pulling weeds, pouring new sand, just to see the look of humiliation on people’s faces.
But now cleanup was over. It was time to get absolutely plastered and free himself from the stresses of the week. Their coach gave them a weekend off after coming off back to back wins and training camps so this weekend was completely his, and he would make the most of it. Oikawa tousled his air dried brunette waves, trying to get them to at least follow a somewhat normal direction or to look effortlessly windswept. He would prefer the windswept look to complete his costume’s look, but it seemed fruitless at that point.
Lips curled into a frown as he let out a frustrated huff before throwing his hands up in defeat. There was no point, even if he did perfect his hair it was sure to be ruined by sweat, humidity, and perhaps by some lucky guy’s hands if Oikawa lucked out tonight. That thought was enough to bring another smile to his face. Diligently he touched up the fake blood decorating the corners of his lips before slipping in the incisors prepared with denture glue. He held them there for a moment, letting it mold to his tooth. Checking his handiwork, Oikawa grinned into the mirror and was satisfied with the fangs that now marked him as a vampire for the evening.
Was it a stereotypical choice? Yes. Did he care? Not particularly because he was going to be the best dressed player at this party. Who else could come close to an embroidered midnight blue waistcoat, tailored pants, and a billowing white shirt? No one. He’d even found a cloak to complete the look. With a flourish of his cloak, Oikawa was ready for a night out with his teammates and whoever else showed up.

He lost his cloak.
In all the chaos he’d either abandoned it in some dark corner of the basement or the cute lacrosse player he’d been dancing with expertly slipped it from his shoulders.
Thief.
At least he still had his drink. The liquid sloshed around in the red plastic cup in his hand as he stared down at it, preparing himself for the vile taste. Whoever was left in charge of the jungle juice really fucked up, but he sure as hell was not turning down free liquor at his own party. Oikawa scrunched up his face, knocking back the sickly green liquid. As it slid down his throat, full body chills spread throughout his body.
Fucking awful.
“It’s bad isn’t it?” A low voice asked from behind him.
A hot voice.
Oikawa cleared his throat and spun around as elegantly as he could in his inebriated state, but the alcohol did nothing to dim the bright smile he flashed at the stranger who’d spoken. In the dim light, his gaze focused on the slightly shorter man who watched him with a crooked smile and vibrant green eyes that still shone even in the bad lighting.
“It’s shit!” Oikawa yelled over the loud bass shaking the house. “I don’t know who they put in charge of it this time but it was a bad choice!”
“Probably some poor freshman as a right of passage,” the other man joked, leaning in closer.
Oikawa let out a bark of laughter, some of the drink spilling out and onto the floor. “They made me do that my first year so I wouldn’t be surprised. I definitely don’t think mine was this shitty though.”
The handsome stranger’s stoic face cracked with a grin. “You’re on the volleyball team then?”
That dazzling smile threatened to pull Oikawa in deeper. He began swaying back and forth to the bass that pounded throughout the basement, hips moving in tantalizing motions.
“Yeah, I am. Third year,” he replied, his gaze locked on the stranger’s eyes as he dared him to come closer to dance.
The other man’s smile turned nearly feral as he closed the distance between them, the two falling into sync as they moved, hips inching dangerously closer.
“What’s your name?” The stranger asked, ducking closer, his lips brushing against the curvature of Oikawa’s ear.
A shiver ran up Oikawa’s spine. “You can call me Tooru.”
“Tooru,” the man purred, hands coming to a rest on Oikawa’s waist as they continued to move to the beat. “I’m Hajime.”
“Nice to meet you,” Oikawa breathed. His cheeks were getting warmer at the sheer proximity of this handsome man, and he was certain that the alcohol was not muddling his brain. This man was sharp and oozed confidence, effortlessly sucking Oikawa in, and he was more than willing to get lost in someone like Hajime.
Oikawa’s hand drifted to Hajime’s back, brushing up his spin through the leather of his jacket. Even the leather could not hide the fact that this man was corded through with muscle, and Oikawa’s fingers itched to feel every inch of him. This total stranger just might be the conquest for the evening.
Even with the sweat and the sticky floor the two were completely enthralled with one another. Nothing, not even the shouts of Oikawa’s teammates, could draw their attention away from each other. The thundering of the bass only echoed the thundering of his heart.
“Are you supposed to be a vampire?” Hajime asked, his lips brushing the delicate curl of Oikawa’s ear.
“A sexy one,” he replied with a sly grin.
“Sexy is right.” His gaze swept down the length of Oikawa’s torso, and an appreciative hum escaped his tempting lips.
“What about you?”
“Van Helsing.” A crooked grin broke out across his face.
Oikawa felt the slight rumble of laughter through his back. “The vampire hunter?”
“The one and only.”
A matching smile spread across Oikawa’s face. “Were you hunting me then? Is that what led you here?” Moving his hand slowly up Hajime’s broad back he hooked his arm around Hajime’s neck, pulling him even closer. Chest pressed against chest, breaths mingling together.
“Would you like that?” The tip of his nose brushed against Oikawa’s jawline as Hajime slightly ducked his head.
“An incredibly handsome man having eyes only for me in the hopes of vanquishing me? I think I might.” Oikawa dipped his head, lips brushing against a stubble-lined jaw.
“Then I wonder if we should get out of here then?”
The two pulled away from one another, heated gazes locked, and lips parted as they regarded one another.
“Vanquish me then.”

“Fuck you did not actaully say that to him did you?” Matsukawa took a disgusted sip from his beer bottle, one arm lazily tossed over Hanamaki’s shoulder as they reclined on Iwaizumi’s couch.
“He really did,” Iwaizumi laughed, nudging his boyfriend with his shoulder and an amused grin on his lips.
Oikawa shook his head. His cheek reddened with embarrassment. “I was intoxicated okay…”
“I know, I know.” Iwaizumi pressed a small kiss to Oikawa’s dark waves.
“And it still got him to my room didn’t it? So it may have been a shitty seduction tactic but this big dummy still fell for it.” The corners of Oikawa’s lips twitched in a smile.
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes. “Biggest regret of my life,” he teased, squeezing Oikawa’s thigh with his free hand, and taking a sip from his beer bottle.
“Can’t believe it’s been three years since then. At least now we aren’t getting shitfaced in a basement that’s definitely not up to code.”
“Now we get shitfaced in your overpriced apartment waiting for kids to ding-dong ditch us,” Hanamaki announced, waving his cup around for dramatic effect.
“Expensive city. Expensive apartment,” Iwaizumi sighed. He smiled affectionately at his boyfriend who was merely rolling his eyes at their friends on the opposite couch.
“Don’t you guys have an office party to get to or something?”
Hanamaki shrugged, knocking back the rest of his beer. “We’ll be fashionably late. Sure you don’t want to join us?”
“And be around receptionists and accountants all night?” Oikawa scoffed. “I should think not.”
Iwaizumi gave his boyfriend a playful nudge as if to say ‘play nice’.
“At least there will be free food,” Matsukawa sighed, hauling himself from the couch with a grunt. “But we will definitely be the youngest people there.”
“That’s because I’m the only one who knows how to turn the wifi on and off. It’s why they keep me around.” A sly grin spread across Hanamaki’s face as he stood with his boyfriend. “They’re at my mercy.”
Iwaizumi shook his head while Oikawa snorted.
“Okay, Maki, you evil mastermind. I’ll show you out.” Oikawa stood from his own seat and ushered his guests out to their own party.
Goodbyes were brief, the two couples already having plans for the following day. Soon enough it was just Oikawa and Iwaizumi curled up on their loveseat. Alcohol was traded for cups of tea and costumes for sweats and old university hoodies.
“We should turn the light off outside. I don’t feel like getting up and down to give kids candy,” Iwaizumi sighed, his face buried in Oikawa’s neck, who in turn was running his fingers through his boyfriend’s short hair.
“That’s not really in the spirit of Halloween,” Oikawa chastised, humor coloring his voice.
Iwaizumi let out a huff. “You feel the same way, just admit it.”
Oikawa hummed in agreement, brushing a soft kiss against his boyfriend’s temple. “Can’t believe that three years ago we were up until the crack of dawn on Halloween.”
“It was later than that if I remember,” Iwaizumi chuckled, pressing a kiss to Oikawa’s jaw. “Someone couldn’t get enough of me.” He looked up at his boyfriend, wearing that same wicked grin from that party all those years ago.
A warm smile tugged at the corners of Oikawa’s lips as his amber gaze soaked in the vision that was Iwaizumi Hajime. Reaching up, he cupped the side of Iwaizumi’s face, his thumb brushing against his boyfriend’s bottom lip. Oikawa let out a breathy sigh, his own lips parting.
“I still can’t get enough of you,” he murmured. “Never will.”
Iwaizumi’s grin softened and his gaze turned loving and warm. They were a far cry from that basement. Then, only blazing passion had thrown them together and at the time neither could anticipate that one night of drunken foolishness could lead to what existed between the two men now.
“I’d hope not, Tooru.” Iwaizumi leaned forward, placing a chaste kiss on the other man’s lips. “I love you,” he breathed.
“Love you too.” Oikawa kissed his boyfriend again before pulling away and his sweet smile turning into a playful smirk. “Vanquish me again.”
“You can count on it.”
