First times with Atsumu were always special. The first time Aran tried mint chocolate chip ice cream was shared with Atsumu due to him insisting he has superior taste and Aran needed to experience it himself. Aran cringed when he ate it and Atsumu ridiculed him for having the taste of a child. They were both kids, which Aran quickly informed him of. Atsumu turned his nose up at Aran and stuck his tongue out at him.
The first time Aran gave a gift to Atsumu he was basically shaking in his boots. He spent an entire night at home practicing in the mirror on how to give the gift until his mom teased him while walking past his room. In the end, Atsumu took it with a big smile and hugged Aran tightly. Aran complained and groaned about it outwardly but hugged Atsumu back, relishing in the feeling of the other's arms around him.
The first time Aran had a crush it was on Atsumu. It took him a moment to realize it but he always wanted to be around the other boy. He kept an eye on both of the twins out of curiosity but played close attention to Atsumu because he liked him. Atsumu was cool, definitely on the mean side, but he liked Aran.
Aran would hear from everyone around him to stay away from Atsumu because he's mean or strange. Aran ultimately ignored them and continued to extend his kindness to Atsumu who would only extend kindness right back to him. Atsumu was playful and would push and tease Aran but he was never mean to him. There was a difference whenever he talked to Aran and it made the boy feel special every time they had time to speak. That special feeling made blossomed into a crush.
Aran's first kiss was with Atsumu. They were playing truth or dare with the Inaraizaki team. It was Atsumu's first year and Aran's second and they were all playing just to have some fun. The dare was given by Suna who smirked as Atsumu grumbled under his breath and Aran tried his best to settle his racing heart. When they kissed it was brief and they both pulled away quickly, laughing it off with ease. Atsumu went to shoving Suna and joking around while Aran was thinking about the press of his lips against the other's.
Atsumu wasn't Aran's first boyfriend. In fact, it was Kita. They were a cute couple, the one everyone kind of expected to happen since they already had the energy of an old married couple. Kita made Aran feel happy and whole. He would go and visit Kita's grandmother and take care of things with Kita up until they graduated and Aran had to leave. He kissed Kita and told him he'd visit when he could while he was gone.
Aran's first roommate was Atsumu. It was an idea from him because he wouldn't stop whining about missing Aran. Aran barely wanted to admit that he was really missing his best friend as well despite the 30 minute commute between them. Which ended up with them just moving in together since they were close enough for it to work.
Atsumu was a slightly messy person so their apartment was always in some form of disarray. Aran would keep plants around the place to "liven it up" and Atsumu would take his time watering them for him when he forgot. Sometimes Aran would start small fires while trying to cook and other days Atsumu would break a plate trying to wash dishes. There place wasn't perfect but it felt like home.
The first time Aran met Kiyoomi as Atsumu's boyfriend he was ecstatic. Atsumu finally found someone who saw him for all he was. Aran was pleased to see the way Kiyoomi looked at Atsumu and appreciated him. The way Atsumu would light up as soon as Kiyoomi gave him even the smallest smile. The way they would lean into each other's space as if they were to separate they would simply fall out of orbit. It was refreshing to see Atsumu so seamlessly happy without a care.
The first time Aran tended to a broken heart it was Atsumu’s. He couldn't understand the pain Atsumu was going through but could see it in every part of his body language. A promise of friendship between him and Kiyoomi was made and that was the end of that. Atsumu swore up and down that he'd be alright despite his puffy eyes and dreary demeanor. He moped for a few days and sprang back up after a couple weeks. But those days before he sprang back up, Aran spent them sitting on their shared couch watching stupid shows that make Atsumu laugh until he snorted. He would get Atsumu little things just to make him smile again. He stayed right by his side. It was the least he could do.
Aran never believed he would have to deal with this first time but it came to him out of nowhere. The first time Aran had his heart broken, Atsumu was immediately by his side.
Years of a relationship with Kita shattered after a simple meeting. Kita insisted it was better if they talked about it face to face. They were taking different paths and Aran was making his strides towards a plentiful future in volleyball while Kita was settling deeper into his farm life. "It's for the best," was what Kita told him and Aran knew it was true but still couldn't swallow down that pain that spread through his entire chest. He loved him... with everything he had. He didn't expect it to hurt so much to let him go.
Aran couldn't tell anyone how many times he cried when he got home but Atsumu probably had a better guess. He wrapped him up in his arms and they stood together until Aran could even out his breathing and think enough to process Atsumu telling him to get changed and settled on the couch.
They sat and watched goofy shows that made Aran smile through the heartache. It helped ease the pain and whenever he felt the sting begin to build up again, Atsumu would wrap an arm around his shoulders and pull him close to his side. Aran allowed himself to weep until he felt he was able to breathe again.
The first time Aran confessed to Atsumu he bit his tongue and hit his hand a little too hard on their kitchen counter they were standing next to. He wasn’t planning on confessing at all that day, it was actually just a passing thought he had. They had both been single for some months now and those feelings that Aran thought were long gone were rolling back to the forefront of his mind. All he could think about was how Atsumu looked when he smiled. Or the way Atsumu would look on the court at his matches, eyes alight with passion and big grin on his face. Or the way he would cheer for Aran at his own matches and Aran could look up to the stands to see Atsumu waving his arms around like a maniac.
It was the little things too that brought back this crush. Sometimes Atsumu would come home with Aran’s favorite snack because while he was at the store he thought about Aran. Other times Atsumu would cling to him like a koala because “Aran, it’s too cold in here~” and he was a firm believer of Aran being a personal heater of some sort. He would massage tense muscles from Aran’s shoulders whenever Aran complained about being sore. He would sit a little closer than necessary on the couch when they would watch something together. It was the little things like that that made Aran’s head start spinning and his heart start beating hard in his chest.
It was the little things like Atsumu letting Aran stand in the kitchen even though he’s a disaster at cooking and feeding Aran bits of the dinner being made to taste test. That little thing was Aran’s breaking point. So when Atsumu pulled the spoon away and asked Aran how the soup tasted all that came out of Aran’s mouth was “I like you!” It was embarrassing.
Every word Aran said was in a stumbled over flurry. His tongue was sore from his biting it and he had to shake off his hand from hitting it on the counter due to the shock of biting his tongue. Aran thought he ruined it, that he shouldn’t have let this crush slip his grasp. But Atsumu had always been full of surprises.
First times with Atsumu had always been special. The first time Atsumu kissed Aran in literal years was right after he confessed to him. The press of Atsumu’s lips left Aran’s own tingling once again. Atsumu smiled and pressed longing kiss after longing kiss against Aran’s own lips until he felt lightheaded and floaty. He let himself get wrapped up in the feeling and Atsumu was smiling from ear to ear in that way that was so stupidly endearing that Aran wanted to smack him sometimes.
“So, when’s our first date?”
Well, it seemed like Aran had a whole new list of firsts to experience.
