Work Text:
She dindn't like her.
Evergreen , the fairy .
Her eyes were pretty, her hair was long, brown and curly, she was always very groomed, her skin was smooth and unscarred and glistened in the fucking light; she was eighteen while Mirajane remained trapped in those seventeen that never passed, and even if it was only a year apart, eighteen was still closer to twenty-one than seventeen. She drank wine, not beer, and held the glass like someone important and not a Fairy Tail rowdy, not like her . She was called fairy, while she was forever be trapped with demons inside her; and if all that wasn't enough, she licked the damn floor he passed.
She was beautiful , and Mirajane wanted to clean the floor with her stupid face.
Not that she was going to do anything about it. No, never. That would be a dumb move and raise questions as to why she did it, and while it might be worth it to wipe that cheesy, idiotic smile off her face, it would lead to more questions that she had no answers to and god forbid her to have to reveal any of the ones that she actually had.
Like the fact that she might be jealous. Not that she would admit that to any living soul. Or dead, for good measure.
But, maybe, just maybe, she might be. And maybe, it has something to do with the way that that stupid idiot drag the damn woman everywhere, and was even a little nice to her, which coming from him meant a lot, and one of these days she swears he saw her wearing the damn headphones that he didn't let anyone touch.
So yeah, Mirajane didn't like her. In fact, she hated everything about her.
And that was pathetic and irritating because the truth was that she was pretty nice. She was soft and smooth, and was older but didn't treat them like children, and Erza even fighted with her sometimes, which made her blood boil because it was Erza and Erza was her rival and not hers. The only good thing about it is that it allowed her to see Erza pulling up her ass. But most of all, the fucking Evergreen treated her brothers well, which made it impossible for her to treat her badly because Elfman liked her and Lisanna asked her for help with her nails, and she even tried to keep a conversation with her, which always went wrong because every time she looked into Evergreen's serene face, all she could see was bloody Laxus wrapping his arms around her waist as he did with hers.
Running his hands through her hair, as he did through hers.
Tracing the white, smooth and soft skin with his fingers.
Taking her mouth like he took hers.
Shaking in her fucking arms as it had trembled in hers and it had been a year but she hadn't forgotten and she hated the feeling that rose in her chest every time he entered the guild, the damn ranjishu on his back and Evergreen at his side.
As it happened at that very moment.
He walked through the door as he always did, his arms loose and his chest puffed out, his eyes haughty and superior, as if he owned the place. His chest had grown with training, his back looking even wider, his hair stayed straight up, his face was still cute and pretty, and the damn scar still made him look more attractive.
He, was still handsome and her stupid heart was still beating nonstop at the mere sight of him, almost popping out of her chest every time he got close. He stayed the same, except that, unlike the times before, there was always a woman beside him now.
A woman who wasn't her.
Mirajane downed the beer in her hand in one gulp, her aura suddenly blackening and she didn't even laugh when one of the mages next to her ran. At least there was alcohol available. Too much alcohol. And Erza. She was beside her at the table, of course. It was Erza, after all, and although the highlight of their days was kicking each other in the face, she was the only one who could put up with her evil aura, sipping her beer calmly and unaffectedly.
Fucking pathetic crush that doesn't go away , Mirajane grunted to herself as her eyes followed the tall, large form of Laxus taking a seat at a far table, Evergreen finally letting go of his shadow to sit at one of the other tables on the first floor, playing her hair back and throwing a smile at the unprepared mages.
Her eyes watched him then.
God , he really was handsome.
The training had given him an air of greater authority, a more haughty and powerful impression, and his magical power had increased considerably, if what she'd heard around was true. Not that she was asking. She might be a little… interested in him, but she had pride and an image, a reputation , and there was no way in hell she was going to let someone spread the word that the Demon Mirajane Strauss asked questions, or had damn stupid eyes of heart for an asshole like Laxus Dreyar, and screw that up. No. Not even over her dead body.
He had been gone for months this time, and she hoped, fuck, she hoped like an idiot, that he would at least look at her when he arrived, but he walked right past her like she didn't even exist, and it hurted because fucking Evergreen was with him all the time and he saw her every day, but he still gave her a look when she left and she he hadn't seen in months wasn't even recognized. The headphones were in his ears once more, but the gray eyes were open, passing the guild in an appraising look, his forehead furrowing an irritated look at one time or another. He was still the same idiot, she sighed. Acting as if the world was at his feet and everyone was less than his presence. Smug bastard.
His eyes caught hers then, and Mirajane took a deep breath for a second, her breath hitching at the way he looked at her for just a second, before the same old smug look came to his face. She stared at him for a second before lifting her middle finger and pointing at him in clear rebellion and disgust. She expected a lightning to burn her, or something like that, but he just laughed, mockingly and mischievously, and suddenly she was pissed off at his pathetic, unnecessary, and fucking charming existence. She took it out on Erza, of course, purposely tipping her beer over the strawberry cake she left on the table, which earned her a good one of a punch, and quickly they were tangling with each other, punches and kicks spilling over into the usual Fairy Tail mess.
And because she is Mirajane fucking Strauss and she doesn't back off, she jumped at the chance when she realized they'd approached the table where Laxus rested with that irritating, arrogant, smug look he liked to reserve for moments when he thought he was above everyone - which, considering it was him, it happened quite often- to fly up to him and land a good jab in that handsome face. His jaw snapped in shock and Mirajane smiled because fuck, her hand hurt like she'd hit a rock with her bare hands , but she bet his face was hurting like hell too, with the force she'd put into the punch.
Childish? Perhaps.
But his face closed up, a few rays flickering around him, and Mirajane finally felt represented as he mumbled "Fuck, fucking hell Mirajane " hands running over his jaw, because he was driving her out of fucking control for much longer and she deserved it. She deserved it because her damn stomach kept curling whenever he walked by her and his body bumped unpretentiously against hers, his hands brushing her waist as he passed, or when his scent suddenly flooded her nostrils and she needed to hold on because she wanted to jump on him and just kiss that smug smile off his face.
Yes, she deserved it and it felt good to finally punch that annoying smile.
Okay, it was her fault she was in this situation to begin with because she was the one who asked him for a kiss, but he was the one who made the damn kiss feel so good, and now she couldn't forget it, even though it's been a year since that first kiss and she's already having kissed other boys afterwards. And the problem was him, because he was the one who kissed her the second time when she was trying so hard to forget about that first fucking kiss, and he was the one who pressed her against another damn wall and breathed her damn name into her mouth like if he cared. It was his fault because he was the one who attracted her so much, and he was the one who made her tingle, he was the one who kept lighting her up with just one look and it was on him that she thought when she lay in her bed to sleep and he was the fucking one who was walking around with the fucking Evergreen back and forth.
The noise in the guild stopped for a second, Erza scolding at her side and she knew they were all waiting for the lightning to strike her, or a very well-placed punch, although she didn't think anyone would be too surprised if it didn't come - she heard it some conversations about Laxus being soft with her; while he wasn't there, of course, Fairy Tail might be full of crazy people, but no one was that crazy to say something like that when he could hear it. And although it made her heart skip a beat, she walloped the idiot who said it in the face till it was almost breaking the floor and then scared him until he pissed his pants. Pff, like she needed softness —and she held her breath for a moment as he rose from his chair, absolutely for all the wrong reasons, his tall frame forcing her to lift her head to look him in the eye, but she didn't back off, facing him without hesitation or fear.
"My bad," she mumbled with a shrug, and he raised his eyebrow in a cynical look. She knew he and absolutely everyone else could see by the smile she wore that she didn't feel the slightest guilt about the punch and was actually more than glad she'd hit a good one, hard enough to break some of the skin, a trickle of blood running down his chin. Evergreen rose on the other side of the guild, ready to defend her dear damn master, and Mirajane clamped her jaw tight, her hands balling into fists as she approached.
She was just about to catch him up when the fucking jealousy screamed louder and Mirajane grunted in a low, annoyed voice that she would tend to the wound for him, pushing his body with her hand toward the counter where there was always some alcohol and cotton. Not that it made much of a difference, he looked more like a stone wall now, a very beautiful stone wall , her conscience whispered, and his legs didn't move an inch.
"Hurry up, Dreyar," she growled angrily, "before I change my mind and leave that dramatic, stupid ass of yours to do your own bandage."
“Evergreen will take care of it for me, Mirajane,” he replied with a smirk and cocky smile. Mira glared at him, her eyes glittering both from the use of her full name and for the name of the blessed fairy she found herself increasingly despising coming from his lips. He chuckled, before looking into her eyes, because he knew, fuck, he knew how she felt about the damn mage who accompanied him, even though she had never said anything to anyone, and definitely not to him.
His legs moved then, and she began to regret it the exact second he climbed the stairs to the second floor, grunting "I don't have all day, Mirajane," the memories of the last time she was alone with him in that place making her face blush. She followed him anyway, grabbing the cotton and alcohol that someone, she didn't pay much attention to, handed it over, too busy keeping up with the tall, regal, masculine form that climbed the stairs, his broad back moving as he took a few steps slowly and calmly, ignoring the noise and the party reborning among the mages.
She took a deep breath as she walked through the door, her eyes catching the relaxed form of his body, sitting in one of the chairs in a hidden corner of the room. His legs were spread, his arms crossed over his chest and his head pushed back slightly, exposing the white neck to her eyes. She coughed, the sudden urge to sink her teeth into the white skin surging inside her, and it took her a while to realize that the damn demon inside her was eager to get out again, always was when it came to him.
He didn't speak, but he spread his legs wider as she approached, and Mirajane found herself stepping into the space, rising on her tiptoes to lift one of her hands to his bruised chin. It wasn't bleeding anymore, his skin just slightly irritated and for a moment she was divided into being glad she hadn't ruined his pretty face, and annoyed that she hadn't broken at least one tooth.
"Why the punch?" he asked in a low voice, and Mirajane looked up in surprise, not expecting him to say anything about it.
"It was an accident," she replied with a disinterested shrug.
“Mira,” Laxus growled, undoing his hands still locked on his chest to grab the small, soft hand that ran over his chin in one smooth motion, the cotton dropping from her hands as he did so, cocky, smug smile on his lips. “You don't miss a punch. Why?"
"It's Fairy Tail, Laxus" Mirajane grunted, pulling her wrist out of his grip effortlessly and grabbing more cotton and alcohol "you don't need a reason to punch someone."
"So you admit it was on purpose," he scolded, a smug smile tugging at his lips and Mirajane pressed the cotton tightly to his chin, satisfaction surging in her chest as he shot her an annoyed look.
"No." she grunted, clapping her hands together in a farewell motion, ready to pull away and leave his snarling, stupid ass there. Laxus grabbed her before she could get out, his legs tightening to cage her in his body.
"It's not like that, Mira." He whispered, one of his hands pushing a stray, fight-torn strand of hair behind her ear, and she closed her eyes for a second at the contact, before opening them again. "Ever, it's not like that."
"Marry her, for what I care" she grumbled acidly "Do whatever the hell you want, Dreyar." she muttered, her voice husky and slow and if he had been anyone else he would have been frightened by the power she put into the words.
"Whatever I want then?" Laxus asked and Mirajane swallowed the lump that had sprung up in her throat at the thought of seeing him with her continually. Of course she would be “ Ever ” to him. She was beautiful after all, and she treated him like the damn king he liked to think he was, like if the sun was coming out of his arrogant ass, she practically adored him. Of course it would be her.
Mirajane didn't respond, releasing a growl at him, and she hoped he was smart enough not to press, because the second time she would be sure to pull his fucking tooth out. Maybe that way he'd be a little less handsome.
He said nothing more, and Mirajane looked up, ready to shove the cotton down in his throat and leave it there, and then his hands were on her face and his mouth was on hers.
Kissing him still felt like it was the first time, even though she'd already tasted his lips several others.
Her lips parted without hesitation, and his tongue thrust hard into her mouth, pulling a moan from her lips. Her hands flew to his hair, fingers digging into the soft strands as he straightened in his chair and pulled her to him tightly, his legs spreading wider to have her between his thighs. Mirajane sighed, her body heating at the first touch of his lips, her demons scrambling in her stomach in an effort to break free and she dug her nails into his shoulders. He moaned, slow and hoarse , his mouth still moving over hers, and fuck , it melted everything inside her, all possible resistance flying down the drain.
She pressed harder against him, one hand landing on his thigh to brace herself, pushing up to grab his mouth in a desperate, longing, violent kiss, and his teeth brushed over her lips like fangs. Mirajane shivered, one hand pulling his head hard close to hers, the other wrapping itself tightly around his thigh.
His hands grip her thighs then, lifting her over his own, and Mira gasped, partly from the startled movement, partly from the contact of her body fully clinging to his, her chest pressing against his hard chest, her thighs opening over it to circle his hips. Thank God for the new chairs ,she thought as her legs circled smoothly, tangling around him. He held her then, his hand resting on her hip firmly as his mouth took hers, his other hand tangling in her hair and she gasped as he undid the ribbon holding her ponytail, the white strands falling over her shoulders. He stared at her for a small minute, or maybe it was seconds, Mira couldn't say exactly, caught in the way his eyes slowly watched her before his hand tangled in her hair and pulled her mouth to his once more. Mirajane didn't complain, pushing up to take his mouth with hers. His hands landed on her ass in gentle contact, trailing down her back until they touched the back of her neck and then returning all the way back to her ass and then lightly landing on the soft flesh. She moaned into his mouth soundless, just a thick intake of air as he pressed the skin and mound of flesh into his hand slowly and hard. She felt him shiver as she did it, her hip rolling over his tentatively as she bit down his bottom lip subtly , eliciting a soft moan from him.
God, she was making out with Laxus Dreyar, of all people, in the guild hall where anyone could see. And part of her kind of liked the idea of fucking Evergreen catching her kissing her leader's hot, soft, smooth mouth. She pressed against him harder at the thought, her hips lowering on him hard as she rolled subtly on him and she gasped into his mouth as she felt the subtle movement of his cock hardening between her thighs, the erection coming directly into contact with the mound between her thighs, as he pushed up and pulled back a little. She gasped.
He shivered again, pulling away to throw his head back, eyes closed. His hand shifted from her bottom to land on her hip.
"Mira" grunted, eyes still closed and breathing heavily "fuck, sorry." He whispered, one hand brushing the hair that insisted on falling in her face to her side, his mouth taking hers in a soft kiss, her body still weighing on his. " Fucking can't control myself when I’m with you." He mumbled in a low and annoyed sigh.
The smile that fell from her lips she couldn't control either, her hands running over the scar on his eye in a gentle caress when he didn't immediately return to her lips. He really was very handsome, she realized, bending down to steal a small kiss from his lips.
"Well, I can't blame you, I really am too much sand for that little truck of yours." She whispered against his mouth, grabbing his lips in a playful little bite and then her forehead landing on his, a sly smile on her lips.
He chuckled, slowly and huskily, his hand tugging at her back to glue her body even closer to his, pressing a small kiss to the side of her forehead. His mouth touched her ear slowly, placing a small kiss on the soft skin, before sucking the earlobe into his mouth and Mira rewarded him with a small anguished moan.
"I can make two trips." He whispered into her ear, before she laughed and he grabbed her mouth tightly again.
God, she liked kissing him.
She liked the feel of him against her body, liked the way her body was electrified all over when he touched it, she liked the way he breathed in her ear. She liked the naughty way he looked at her.
She pulled away from him slowly, legs touching the floor again as he opened his and she slid down her body, a lock of hair covering her eyes as she looked for a place to poke her face in, suddenly embarrassed. She looked like a jealous girlfriend , and she wasn't one, didn't want to be either, but she couldn't help the monster that grew in her chest more and more, the anger that came when Evergreen sat beside him, laid his hand on his arm and he let her.
His hands pulled her face up and into his slowly as he rose to his feet, suddenly tall and big again, pressing a small kiss to her lips. Soft, calm, and it felt so sincere, so true that Mirajane didn't realize the words had left her lips until he stared at her.
"I missed you"
He laughed, small and fast, and it looked nothing like the arrogant, smug smile that seemed to dwell on his face these days, it was the one he let slip when his eyes soften and he looks like him again, the Laxus she met when she joined the guild, that called her demons beuatiful , the Laxus who worried about his grandfather when he did stupid things, the Laxus who watched her sister and Natsu running around the guild with a discreet, soft smile on his face. The Laxus she liked.
Because she liked him.
Damn, she liked him a lot.
"Missed you too, Mira." He whispered, planting a kiss on her forehead and pulling her into his arms.
He still smelled of rain, and she breathed in his scent deeply, entering his broad chest and closing her eyes as her ear landed against his heart.
It was accelerated, who knows maybe as fast as hers. She smiled.
Fucking God, she looked limp .
Maybe she really should have let Evergreen fix his nice, square jaw. God forbid if anyone, if Erza of all people, saw them like this, with his arms around her back as he tried, and failed, to smell her hair without her realizing it. Maybe he really was soft on her, she thought, the thought nearly pulling a growl out of her lips.
Maybe she should have shifted to ne of hers demons before punch him, it would come out more than one tooth, she mused. Her demons buzzed inside her and she laughed.
“You know,” she muttered, letting her hands become the claws of satan soul. "My demons want to devour you."
“Oh, bring it on.” he laughed "You won't last thirty minutes." He whispered against her mouth, and holy fucking Mavis , she knew he wasn't kidding ,nor was he talking about fighting .
Her claws dug into his back, hard, pulling a moan from his throat and a “ Mirajane ” in that tone that she knew was a warning to stop if she didn't want things to go too far.
She laughed slowly.
She would stop.
For her sake, because she and Laxus were nothing , just two not-so-friendly-people who happen to kiss sometimes, most of times when one of then where pissed to the other, and she couldn't pass that barrier with him, because if she did the fucking crush would never end, and it needed to end.
Evergreen would , the giant monster that jealousy had created growled inside her.
Yes , she thought, she probably would .
She dragged her nails down his back slowly, getting into the flesh , and watched in delight as his eyes gleamed gold, his body trembling against hers, little rays shooting out of his hair.
She could walk with him, smile at him, touch him and even use that fucking headphones he wouldn't let anyone else touch.
But he trembled for her , and hers claw marks would stay on his back for a while, for any unsuspecting mage who thought they could have him, see and shit their pants.
She left him with a smirk, running her hands over his jaw lightly. She wasn't going to apologize, and he knew it, his eyes watching her from above, that haughty look already creeping into his face again, his hands landing inside his pants pockets. His eyes followed her in amuse, a satisfied, mischievous, predator smile on his lips, one of his hands coming out of his pockets to run over his face as he falled into a chair with a sigh and a groan, adjusting himself in his pants and straining to not hit the scratched back, burning and aching, into anything.
Mirajane descended the stairs slowly, hair cascading down her face, leaving the small container of alcohol on the counter before heading to where Erza was sitting. Evergreen was at her side again, being nice and pretty, and Mirajane squeezed her hands together tightly, before sitting at the table. She grabbed Erza's beer, which would probably have her punching her later, but it would be worth it, hands still with claws for nails, and locked her eyes with the stupid Evergreen, letting her teeth fall open in the creepy smile she'd been training for a while, a small glimpse of the devil appearing in her eyes.
They were nothing , but he was hers , and if Ever was smart enough, she would read the not-so-subtle warning in her teeth, eyes, and claws before she actually needed to shove her feet into that pretty little face of hers.
