Chapter Text
“Why are so many of these halloween decorations covered in glitter?” Danny picked up a paper mâché skull covered in black sequins. He glanced over at Sam for an explanation. "Wouldn’t that, like, undermine it’s goth-ness?“
"Ooh, let me guess,” Tucker cut in, dangling a spider with ruby rhinestone eyes between them. "Is the answer soulless capitalist pandering?“
Sam shrugged. "The Skulk ‘n Lurk has an aesthetic.” She turned a silver figurine of a skeleton meditating in a full lotus pose, contemplating it from a different angle. "Goths want to be glitzy some of the time just like everyone else, we just want to keep it on brand.“ She picked up the skeleton, glanced at the price sticker on the bottom, and set it back down with a frown. Tucker squeezed between her and Danny, poking her insistently in the shoulder.
"Soulless capitalism?” he whispered with a grin. Sam let her head flop back and sighed in exasperation.
“Soulless capitalism.”
“Come on.” Tucker set the spider down on the shelf with no regard for the store’s organization and grabbed each of them by the hand. "Let’s go buy a bag of mixed fun-size candy bars for $3.50. Mrs. Hamamoto is doing Spirited Savings this week only!“ Danny fumbled the skull back into the display one-handed as Tucker pulled them towards the door.
"You gotta admit, Sam,” Danny said with a lopsided grin, “she may be a capitalist, but at least she has soul!”
Sam narrowed her eyes. "It’s almost like… her prices are set by an invisible hand.“
Tucker froze, bringing the three of them to a halt in the middle of the entryway. He and Danny stared at Sam in shock until her ears started to flush pink.
"Did you just make a pun?” Tucker practically shouted, a manic smile plastering his face. Danny let out a high pitched whine and started to hover involuntarily.
“Oops, I broke him,” Sam mumbled, keeping her reddening face down as she dragged her boyfriends the rest of the way out of the store.
